Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

One of the most important parts of any project is audience feedback. It is the factor that allows the producer to find out what their target audience believe was done well, and what could be improved. From this, we can find out whether we have been successful or not in the production and delivery of our main and ancillary tasks. We used a questionnaire in the research and planning section of our work; this was to find out some information about how often people play video games and to gather a few opinions on the topic. We thought we should create another questionnaire to give out once we had finished the

production of our media texts, and to use as part of our evaluation. We gave out 18 questionnaires to obtain sufficient feedback about the products we have created. We used both open and closed answer questions to allow us to receive different styles of feedback meaning we had a true idea about the quality of our created products. Obtaining all of the audience feedback allowed us to properly evaluate our overall performance.

The questions we asked on our documentary were: 1. Did you find the quality of our documentary was sufficient? The results we received for this question were exceptionally good, and out of the 18 people we questioned; 16 of them believed our documentary was of a very good quality. As only 2 people believed the quality needed to be improved, we do not really see this as being any sort of problem.

2. Did you feel the documentary looked professional?

Out of the 18 people who answered our questionnaire, 8 of them believed our documentary looked professional throughout the whole thing, 6 people believed it looked professional at times and the final 4 people believed it did not look professional. This was not the kind of result we really wanted, but we were happy with all the respondents who didnt say it was not professional-looking. We did expect better results on this questions because of the amount of hard work we put in, but this is something that could be improved if we had another chance to make it right. 3. Whilst watching our documentary, did you learn anything new? Out of the 18 people who answered our questionnaire, a whopping 15 of them learnt something new! We were very impressed with this as we felt we had done our job properly and the facts we packed into our documentary were relevant to the topic and informed the audience of all the information they needed to know about the topic.

4. Did you feel the sound levels were consistent throughout our documentary? Seven out of 18 people believed our sound levels were consistent throughout the documentary. One person responded with no they were not consistent, some were high, some were low After our deadline, we became aware that our sound levels werent perfect so we did expect this

sort of feedback, and we now wish we had fixed them beforehand, and of course we would if we had the chance to 5. Did you find our soundtrack appropriate? We received a very impressive result from this question as 16 out of 18 people loved the soundtrack we created, and one person even said yes, it matched the topic of Call of Duty and another said yes, it is going to stick in my head. We were very pleased with this result, it shows our hard work is beginning to pay off.

6. Do you feel the voiceover fit the documentary correctly? This was our most impressive result; all 18 people we questioned like our voiceover and believed it was appropriate. One of our group members, Jake has a reasonable deep voice, allowing an effect of a serious tone to be added to our documentary. We now know we definitely made the right decision to who did the voiceover out of the group of us.

7. Are there any aspects of the documentary you would like to have been improved? Thirteen out of the eighteen people did not feel any aspects of our documentary needed to be altered to improve our documentary, but 5 did believe some things could have been improved. The main improvement mentioned is one we agree with the sound levels need to be more level and consistent. Another improvement mentioned was that we should have less voxpops and fill the space with more effective pieces of footage instead.

8. What was your favourite part of the documentary? For this question, a repetitive response was the soundtrack, we were very pleased by this as we were quite unsure of the sort of reactions we would get to it, but 95% of them have been positive. Three people also said that their favourite part of the documentary was the expert interview we included as it was very formal and spoke about the psychological side of the topic giving a lot of useful facts and figures. 9. What would you rate our documentary out of 10?

We were pretty happy with this result, but we would have preferred more with ratings of 8 and 9 as

we felt it does deserve it. We were just happy no one gave us any low ratings, so we are happy and believe our hard work has paid off. Next, we asked the same people questions about our radio trailer, here is what they asked: 1. Did you feel the content of our radio trailer was appropriate to the documentary? 100% of our respondents felt our radio trailer was appropriate to the documentary. We were very happy with this as it showed that hard work does eventually pay off. Some of the things the respondents said were: yes because it used clips of voxpops from the actual documentary and it is good because you used the same background music which I loved in the first place a lot of positive feedback here.

2. Would you tune in to our documentary after listening to our radio trailer? The majority of people said they would in fact tune into our documentary after they had heard the radio trailer. This is obviously a good thing as it means we will get a lot more viewers when the documentary is broadcasted which is clearly what we were aiming for. It also shows that our radio trailer advertises our documentary rather well.

3. Did you feel the sound levels were consistent? It was 50/50 on this one, but after listening to it through a few tines after we had exported it; we realised the problem. One of the voxpops was slightly quitter than all the other clips, meaning the clips that followed that also sounded too loud even though it wasnt so we completely understand why they didnt feel the sound levels were consistent enough.

Most people seemed to like our radio trailer which we were of course very happy with, and those that didnt like it was only for small reasons which we couldve fixed if we had to the chance to. The ratings we received for the radio trailer were very good indeed, and we are glad we structured it the way we did, but we should have fixed the sound levels problem

when we still had the chance. Overall, we did not really receive any bad responses to our radio trailer, so of course we will respect their opinion. Finally we asked the same people a set of questions about our double page spread for a TV listings magazine, this is what they were: 1. Did you find our double page spread looked like something out of a real TV listings magazine? This is where it went downhill for us, our double page spread wasnt great. Here, the majority of people believed it didnt look like it could appear in a real TV listings magazine. 15 out of 18 people thought it did not look professional. Our magazine spread needs a few improvements, and we are now aware of that.

2. Did you find our double page spread appealing? Why? To most people, our double page spread did not prove to be appealing. Fourteen people did not find our double page spread appealing, and only 4 did. This is obviously a bad thing as it means we have not advertised our documentary in an effective way. We definitely should have spent more time on the production of the double page spread in order to have made it look a lot more professional. The reasons for why people did not like our double page spread were that there was too many black borders around things and also the fact that we did not use columns for the article. If I could have another chance, I would definitely add columns to the pages so it would then be laid out in a much more professional way and overall, it would actually look professional. 3. What would you improve on our double page spread? The answers to this pretty much just repeat what I spoke about in the previous question; columns should be added, and the black borders should be minimalized. All magazines need columns for the article its just one of the important conventions and we DEFINITELY should have used them in the first place really. The picture borders were just too much, they were not needed and most real life, professional magazine do not use borders for the pictures at all, so in theory, we shouldnt have either.
