Features
Float switches are switching devices, which are operated by a float moved by a fluid. They are used to regulate fluid levels in tanks of power units of type ABMAG ... size 100 up to 800 liters according to data sheet RE 51098 Two series are available: Float switch with adjustable switching contacts and optionally firmly set temperature contact Float switch with resistance measuring chain (level) and resistance thermometer (temperature) with analogue output 4 to 20 mA

Level function
Two adjustable reed contacts (normally closed and normally open), which are switched by the permanent magnets installed in the float, are provided in the sliding tubes. When the float reaches the switching points while the oil level is falling, the contacts are operated magnetically. The positions of the contacts are maintained until the float passes the switching points again when the oil level is rising. The switching points are factory-set (for values, see table on page 13). As a standard, switching point L1 is provided as normallyclosed contact, and switching point L2 as normally-open contact The switching points can be adjusted in the device (for instructions, see page 13). The switching function can be changed by turning the contacts by 180; normally-closed contacts become normally-open contacts and vice versa.

Temperature function
For monitoring the max. fluid temperature, two firmly set temperature contacts (option) are integrated or attached. A bimetal plate, which can be influenced by temperature, switches when the firmly set response temperature is reached.

Level A resistance measuring chain (contact gap 7.5 mm [0.3 inch]) is integrated in the sliding tube for the continuous remote transmission of the fluid levels. The contacts are switched by permanent magnets integrated in the float. The relationship between fluid level and current is approximately linear, tolerance 1% of the current value of the measuring chain (grid 7.5 mm). Observe the total length! Attention! Before commissioning, the upper and lower switching contact must be adjusted according to the required operating conditions. Adjustment of switching height The contacts integrated in the float switch are plugged onto a contact strip within the protective tube. They are set to the switching points according to the above table, but can be set higher or lower (observe minimum distances!). To adjust the contact, proceed as follows: Interrupt the voltage supply Disconnect plug-in connections Loosen the screws of the plug base and pull out the plug base with the contact strip Loosen the contact from the strip and mount it at the requested spot (adjustability in 10 mm increments) Insert the contact strip Mount the plug base using screws Re-establish plug-in connection and power connection

Vertical installation according to Technical data on page 3 Avoid flows Do not subject switches to strong impacts and bending Avoid external magnetic fields. This could impair the function of the reed contacts. Use in potentially explosive atmospheres according to Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX)

According to DIN EN 50020 float switches of series M with switching and temperature contact are simple electrical apparatus without own voltage sources. The electrical components consist of reed contacts, bimetal thermostats, plug-in connections and terminals. The apparatus complies with construction regulations according to DIN EN 60079-0 and DIN EN 50020. According to DIN EN 60079-14 this simple electrical apparatus may be used without marking and certification in intrinsically safe electrical circuits [EEx ib] of systems for equipment group II, category 2G (zone 1) and category 3G (zone 2). The operating equipment is assigned to category ib and temperature class T6.
