TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION AND DATA 1.5 Technical Description The LAOT is a lightweight Titanium Piston assembly with an interface designed to override the Aker Kvaerner 2-1/16 & 5-1/8-10M Actuators. (See Kvaerner drgs ) The tool will be manipulator deployed, either carried by the ROV and manipulator deployed, or manipulator positioned with the tool being surface deployed on a down line. The Piston assembly comprises of 3 main parts, the Piston Body, the Piston and the Piston End Cap. The Piston Body Interface is designed to locate on the Actuator Override Adaptors and when rotated 86 degrees will locate behind the 2 Actuator lugs. When pressurised the Piston will overcome the actuator spring and stroke open the valve. The full stroke of the Piston is 170mm. The Piston is actuated via a lightweight Dual Port Receptacle and Hot Stab. The Stab will be supplied directly from the host ROV at a maximum pressure of 200 Bar. One port from the receptacle is connected directly to the return side of the Piston and the other to the High pressure side of the Piston via a Swagelok isolation valve. Once the piston has been actuated OPEN to overcome the default to close spring of the valve actuator, the piston can be hydraulically locked in this condition by closing the isolation valve. The LAOT can then be left on the valve to keep it actuated open. 1.5.1 Technical Description of ROV Marking and Operational Indicators The LAOT will interface with the 2-1/16 & 5-1/8-10M Actuators by means of an 86 degree clockwise rotation (when viewed from the ROV) To confirm that the LAOT is in the correct position for location and removal from the valve interface 2 position markings O and CL have been placed at the front of the LAOT. When O is in the 12 oclock position the tool can be located and removed from the valve. When CL is in the 12 oclock position the tool is in the locked position ready for either actuation or ccw rotation.

Rotational Stops

Note the LAOT is fitted with rotation stops to ensure correct angle of rotation.

1.5.2

Technical Description of LAOT Sub-components Pressure Isolation Valve The Pressure Isolation Valve comprises of a Swagelok Whitey 83 series Ball Valve mounted in an ROV friendly Receptacle assembly. The valve will be used to hydraulically lock the LAOT, in the actuated position, to the required linear valve. The purpose of the valve assembly is to provide the valve with a suitable manipulator interface that will allow accurate and easy 90 degree rotation of the valve without transferring any damaging loadings to the valve or valve stem. For details of the Isolation Valve Assembly See drg 36813-017 rev 0. Lightweight 38mm Dual Port Manifold The Dual Port Manifold will be attached to the LAOT Receptacle plate at the rear of the Tool. The 2 off Manifold ports will be connected by st.steel tube to the return side of the LAOT, and to the extend side via the Pressure Isolation Valve. For details of the Manifold see OAS drg 36665-322 rev 0

TOOL PREPARATION AND SETUP 1. Establish required override force necessary to operate Client Linear Valve. 2. Establish how Tool is to be deployed, by ROV or surface line. 3. Ensure that Tool handles are suitable for the Manipulator Jaw type. 4. Establish a mounting position and secure location for the LAOT so that it can be easily accessed by the Manipulator 5. Use the Pressure / Force Chart in Appendix 8.0 to establish required supply pressure from the ROV. ROV crew to verify accurate supply pressure if not operating LAOT from RCU. 6. Open LAOT Isolation Valve, fit Hot Stab and function test Tool by stroking Piston out and then fully back. Check pipe and fittings for leaks. Close Valve. 7. Check that the Piston Rod is fully retracted it should protrude 1.5 mm from inside face of Piston Body. Note: It is important that the Piston is fully retracted in order to allow piston to interface with valve Actuator.

3.0 3.1

TOOL OPERATION Instructions for Manipulator Deployed LAOT 1. Locate ROV in suitable position to allow Starboard Manipulator deployment of LAOT. 2. Using the Starboard Manipulator locate Tool. Tool should be sitting in a deployment cradle / receptacle positioned between manipulators. 3. Deploy LAOT using handle on Tool centreline, this can be either the D-handle or Fish Tail handle depending on which is selected by ROV operator. 4. Present Tool to Valve interface so that the O Indicator is in the 12 Oclock position. This will allow the Tool to slide over the Valve profile. Note: - The Tool is not fully located or locked in this position Do not release the Tool. Rotate the Tool Clockwise to fully locate - until the CL Indicator is in the 12 Oclock position. The Tool can now be safely released. Note: If the Tool fails to rotate, or turns less than the required rotation, the alignment of the Tool and Valve is not concentric. Adjust Tool / Manipulator alignment while continuing to rotate. 5. Insert the Dual Port Stab into the Receptacle mounted on the Tool. Ensure that the Stab is fully located.

6. Check the status of the Isolation valve. Valve should have been set to the Open position during Tool preparation. Open valve if required. 7. Check that the Tool CL Indicator is still in the 12 Oclock position. Rotate Clockwise if required. Note:- Before the Tool is operated and under pressure the Centre line will be a few degrees below horizontal. When pressure is applied the Centrelines will be fully aligned. 8. Apply the pre-determined pressure to the LAOT for a period of 30 seconds. 9. Close the Isolation Valve with the operating pressure still applied to the Stab. 10. Remove the Stab. Observe the LAOT for a period of 5 minutes to confirm no leakage. Failure Scenarios and Contingency Instructions The most probable failure scenarios when operating the LAOT are a) Loss of pressure from either the Piston seal or the Piston End Cap seal. This will result in the closure of the Linear Valve. b) Loss of pressure from the Isolation Valve or pipe and fittings. This will result in the closure of the Linear Valve. c) Failure of the Isolation Valve to open. This will result in the Tool being stuck on the Linear Valve Interface. 3.2.1 Contingency Instructions. a) Replace failed seal as per instructions in Section 5.2 Conduct & record Pressure test. b) Establish faulty component and Replace. Conduct & record Pressure test. c) Conduct Emergency Tool release by cutting Tube in position shown in Photograph below. Replace Valve and piping. Conduct & record Pressure test.

3.3

Instructions for Release / Recovery of Tool To release and recover the Tool after it has been used to override a Linear valve it will first be necessary to bleed off the internal pressure inside the LAOT. Note:- To prevent the possibility of water being sucked into the annulus side of the piston as the Linear Valve closes and the piston rod retracts it will be necessary to fit and operate the Dual Port Hot Stab before opening the Isolation Valve. 1. 2. 3. 4. Set supply pressure to 30 Bar Fit and confirm correct location of Dual Port Hot Stab. Apply 30 Bar pressure to Annulus side of LAOT. Open Isolation Valve. Maintain pressure for 30 seconds. Observe the Tool Centreline drop. If the piston is fully retracted it will be possible to rock the Tool while still on the Valve interface. 5. Remove the Dual Port Hot Stab. 6. Rotate the Tool CCW, remove and stow back on the ROV.

4.0

TOOL CALIBRATION See Appendix 8.0 for the Pressure / Force Chart for this tool. The output force from Titanium Piston is directly proportional to the input pressure, and can be calculated knowing the Piston ID. It is therefore not a requirement to calibrate the tool before each operation.

Important Note:
Great care must be taken when assembling, disassembling and changing seals to avoid any dirt or contamination entering the piston. Any damage to the piston or piston bore could result in seal failure or leakage at high pressure. The tolerances between parts are tight therefore care must be taken to avoid hard metal to metal contact.

5.3

Seal Change Procedure 1. Slacken Tube fittings on End Cap and remove Tube between Isolation Valve and Piston End Cap. 2. Mark hole position between End Cap and piston Body. 3. Remove 12 x M16 cap screws. 4. Remove End Cap

5. Stand Piston Body on blocks so that piston can be driven out by striking piston rod with a plastic drift. Ensure that piston remains concentric after piston rod is no longer supported in front end of housing. 6. Remove Tape Bearing and 1 off Rod Seal from Piston body. Do not use sharp tools likely to scratch or damage seal area. 7. Remove Piston Seal and 2 off Tape Bearings from piston. 8. Clean Piston and Piston Housing. Ensure there is no dirt in seal housings. 9. Pre-warm Rod Seal in HOT WATER prior to Step 11. 10. Fit Rod seal O-Ring 11. Fit new Rod Seal to Piston Housing. Ensure that O-Ring is not trapped. It will be necessary to deform seal as shown in Appendix 5. Use fingers and then Internal Seal Compression Shaft immediately to gently return seal to original shape and secure in housing. Leave for 10 minutes. 12. Form new Tape Bearing around Piston Shaft then fit into housing. Again insert Seal Compression Shaft and leave for 10 minutes. 13. Pre-warm Piston Seal in HOT WATER. 14. Fit Piston seal O-Ring. 15. Load replacement Piston Seal on to Transfer Sleeve as per Drawing No : 36071-1099. Note:- some form of mechanical press will be required to stretch seal. Do not leave seal on Transfer Sleeve for long, transfer immediately to Piston. 16. Seal will be greatly oversized when it comes off the Transfer Sleeve. Leave in position for 10 minutes to let it contract slightly. 17. Lubricate the Seal Compression Ring ID with WD 40 and place over Piston rod so that chamfered end of Ring goes over 50 dia rod first. Note: It is important to fit in this orientation for when piston is inserted into Housing. Clean all hand tools before use to ensure no debris is transferred into Piston during use. 18. Tap Compression Ring over seal, take great care at this point as the Seal will still be considerably oversized and can easily be pinched (See Drawing No : 36071-1332). Leave compression ring in position shown in drawing.

19. Check that Piston Housing is clean then spray coat the entire bore area with WD 40. 20. Stand Housing vertically and locate the Piston and Compression Ring assembly into housing so that Piston is hanging on flat face of Compression Ring. 21. Ensure that the two are concentric then gently drive Piston into Housing. The Seal Compression Ring will ensure that the Tape Bearings and Seal remain in their respective groves during insertion. Monitor the position of the end of the piston rod to ensure that it is CONCENTRIC when it enters the 50 dia hole so that it does not catch or lift the Tape bearing. 22. When the piston is inserted far enough the End Cap can be fitted. Ensure hole alignment is correct as per Step 2, and that End cap is concentric with bore. 23. Finger tighten all cap screws, then fully tighten using calibrated Torque wrench in a diametrically opposed sequence to 198N.M (146 ft.Lbs) 24. Reconnect Swagelok pipe between Isolation Valve and End Cap.
