But 2013 will also be a very special year for Cambridge English because it will mark the 100th anniversary of Cambridge English: Proficiency, also known as CPE. The first world administration of CPE took place in 1913.
As you very well know, the CPE exam has been revised and the new format is coming into effect this year. If you are still not familiar with the changes, you can refer to the Cambridge English: Proficiency web page to find out more about the revision. In this website you will find different bulletins explaining the rationale behind the revision to the different parts of the exam.
Contact us at the Anglo for further information! You will find our contact details on the last page of this news bulletin.
If your students were not able to pass FCE last year or did not register for this exam in 2012 because they needed a little more preparation time, they will not have to wait until June to sit for FCE. We have incorporated a new date for Cambridge English First this year: Saturday 13th April.
If your students are interested in this possibility, please refer to the International Examinations section at www.anglo.edu.uy. There you will be able to find the corresponding entry form as well as the 2013 Summary Regulations and Notice to Candidates. The registration and examination dates and fees for FCE in April are as follows:

Among many things, the newsletter provides parents with tips and practical ideas to help their kids to learn English, which you could use in your classes yourself! Look at this activity which was published in the December edition: Post-it Word Race
This fun, energetic game is for children of all ages who can read some English words. All you need are some small stickers (such as Post-its) and a pen. Children can expand or review their vocabulary for things around the house, or the activity can be adapted for the park, garden, garage, etc. 1) Choose some things around the house to teach your children the English words for. 2) Go around the house, naming and pointing at the objects (e.g. door, cupboard, and Sams teddy bear). Children say the words and point. 3) Repeat step 2 if necessary. 4) Hand out a set of Post-its with the target words to each child. 5) Children race to stick the Post-its on the correct place (on a door, a cupboard, etc.). If theres only one child, you can use a stopwatch. You can play regularly and add different words.
So why not make a note to inform parents about this possibility at your first parents meeting this year? The newsletter also contains web links to online games and Cambridge English learning resources, interesting articles about learning English and very useful and interesting information about Cambridge English exams. And remember to subscribe to the newsletter yourself! You will certainly find it very useful.
These are some of the issues that Miranda Hamilton discussed in the webinar How can Assessment Support Learning? A Learning Oriented Approach delivered on 14th and 16th January 2013. Click here to download the slides from the Cambridge English Teacher Support website and here to watch a recording of the webinar.
In her presentation Miranda Hamilton proposes a very clear framework for implementing LOA effectively and also looks into the future by suggesting ways in which mini electronic assessments and electronic record-keeping can become an aid to the language learning process. A very thought-provoking webinar which will most likely get you thinking about how to integrate assessment with learning in your teaching context. An excellent start to the New Year and your development as a professional teacher!
