The SuperCamp Story

Bobbi DePorter, co-founder and president of SuperCamp, and her elite team of educators have changed the lives of over 10 million kids worldwide through SuperCamp and Quantum Learning Education programs. Bobbi began her career in real estate in San Francisco in a dynamic firm that ran on an unconventional business model. Innovative management styles practiced at the firm led her to co-found a school for entrepreneurs called the Burklyn Business School, teaching the principles that made the real estate company a success. A school where learning was fluid and dynamic, success effortless, and relationships the center of everything. The business school taught in six weeks what other schools taught in two years. Over the years of its operation, graduates of the business school would come up to Bobbi and tell her how they wished they had learned these skills when they were children, adding that no one ever teaches kids how to learn. This was a wake-up for Bobbi "All at once, I understood. I was here to help kids, to make this happen for them. That was my spark, my personal aha." Bobbi and an associate soon created a program for youth patterned after the business schoola program that would help kids discover their greatness and learn skills to succeed in todays quantum world. During this period Bobbi studied with Dr. Georgi Lozanov from Bulgaria, the acknowledged founding father of accelerated learning, which led to her creation of the Quantum Learning teaching methodology, which contributes to the success of SuperCamp and school programs to this day. The first SuperCamp was help in July of 1982. The concept, which began on a shoestring, took off almost immediately, spreading each year to more locations across the country, and then overseas. Now with more than 65,000 graduates and programs in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America, SuperCamp is an established leader in the field of youth development. The outstanding results achieved with students at SuperCamp and requests by educators to offer the programs in schools motivated Bobbi and her husband and business partner, Joe Chapon, to develop Quantum Learning Education school programs for students, teachers and administrators. School programs started in 1992, and now over 70,000 teachers in thousands of schools and districts across the nation have been trained in the same Quantum Learning methods that are so successful at SuperCamp.

Bobbi is frequently asked to appear on television, radio news, and talk shows, and has participated in segments on CNN, NPR, Voice of America, and even Russias Good Evening Moscow. Over the years, SuperCamp has been profiled in leading magazines and newspapers including The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and Entrepreneur magazine. Additionally, SuperCamp was honored in the Touch America: Showcase of Model Learning Programs, in Washington, D.C. Bobbi is the author of 18 educational booksand has been published in seven languages. She was honored in 2006 with the Readers Choice for Fast Company magazines Fast 50 list of leading creative thinkers, and

has received humanitarian awards from the Transformational Leadership Council (2010) and from Parenting 2.0 (2012). Bobbi DePorter is president of Quantum Learning Network (QLN), the parent organization for SuperCamp and Quantum Learning Education. QLN offers a range of programs and products that enhance learning environments and teaching skills in schools and empower students, families, and individuals with learning and life skills. QLNs mission is to change the lives of 50 million children by 2015.

Our Experience
SuperCamp is a highly engaging 7- to 10-day experience where your son or daughter acquires strategies for effective learning in all subjects, develops critical new skills in reading, writing, thinking, speaking, memory and note-taking, and builds communication, leadership, relationship and career capabilities. Think of SuperCamp as an academic retreat for your child. Students are required to hand in all electronics (cell phones, cameras, iPads, iPods, tablets, MP3 players, etc.) when checking into camp and for the duration of camp are allowed to use these items for 10-20 minutes a day thats it. This pattern interrupt opens students minds to the task at hand, immerses them in the SuperCamp experience, and allows us to reach kids and get exceptional results. When students are separated from their technology, they focus on the SuperCamp experience and look at their values and how they're living their lives without interruption.

Utilizing proven Quantum Learning teaching methods, every single minute of every day at SuperCamp is planned in advance and carefully orchestrated in the moment. This comprehensive planning ensures that students receive highly engaging and effective and academic and life skills training all day every daya total of 90 hours in the 10-day programs and 63 hours in the 7-day programs. In addition to academics, students build their confidence and motivation by learning to value themselves and realizing they can achieve anything they set their mind to. They also learn about effective communication and positive relationships with techniques to address conflict, apologize effectively, and take ownership for their actions. Even with all this learning going on, SuperCamp is fun. At the beginning of each session, students come into the main room dancing to a live DJ. The course work is interactive, not just lecture style. We make sure all learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) are engaged. We encourage students to take responsibility for their education and give them strategies to make learning more meaningfuland easier. Students learn about the benefits of teamwork and bond over team-building activities including ropes courses, board breaking, and general group interaction. The result? Most students form deep friendships that last. Independent studies have found that a full 98% of our graduates continue to use the SuperCamp academic and personal growth skills to achieve success in their lives years after graduating. In the 21st century, students need an edge to get into college and to be successful in their lives. SuperCamp gives your son or daughter that edge.

All Students Benefit

SuperCamp offers programs for high school students, middle school students, and incoming and current college students. All studentsstraight-A, struggling, or somewhere in betweenbenefit

from SuperCamp in their own way. For some it's purely academic, for others the growth is in the life skills area, for most its a combination of both.. Over our 30 years of operating SuperCamp, weve identified four types of students who attend, and have found that each group benefits in a unique way. 1. Straight-A High Achiever With academic skills honed, these students gain a new understanding of how they learn best and how to study smarter rather than harder. These high achievers greatly benefit from SuperCamps ACT/SAT prep, leadership activities, and relationship-building exercises. 2. Not Living Up to Full Potential These kids do well in school by doing the bare minimum with little effort, however, they could be in the straight-A high-achiever group. These students are simply not living up to their full potential. They have it in them to do more, but just dont have the drive to push themselves to their limits. At SuperCamp these teens learn to take responsibility for their education and understand the value of putting in the extra effort to move up to that straight-A level. 3. Under the Radar These kids are not high achievers and theyre not failingthey simply go unnoticed because theyre doing okay. They work fairly hard to get Bs and Cs and the occasional Athey could, however, do better, and they know it, but they arent willing to put in the extra time and effort required. Through their experience of repeated success moments at SuperCamp, these teens realize that with a little effort they can achieve more, and theyre motivated to move in that direction. Their exposure to leadership, barrier breaking, and new learning strategies helps them rise to the next level. 4. Struggling These students have fallen into a negative pattern. Their self-talk consists of I cant, I dont know how, I dont have support. Every class, every test, every year is a challenge. At SuperCamp struggling students benefit greatly from specific academic techniques such as Quantum Writing, Quantum Reading and Quantum Strategies, and gain confidence in their ability to succeed. They learn how to change their language to yes I can, here is how I can do it, and I have the tools to be successful. The parents of students in all of these groups feel a great sense of relief when they return from SuperCamptheyre more well-rounded, more motivated, more confident, and more capable. Their teens are taking responsibility for their learningand the pressures off the parents! The success of SuperCamp is based on an integrated system of proven teaching practices. One of those is our Quantum Learning Success Model, an approach thats based on extremely effective and well-researched behavior transformation techniques. Every academic, life skill, communication, team and leadership experience we orchestrate for students is designed to create "success moments." When adolescents experience these success moments over and over and over again, as they do at SuperCamp, they develop higher levels of competence in learning skills and life skills, which, in turn, yields greater levels of confidence. This systematic progressionsuccess to competence to confidenceis the basis of the intrinsic motivation your child requires to be an independent, innovative, and successful individual.

Staff That Inspire and Motivate Student

Our rigorous selection process ensures that your son or daughter will be supported by staff members who will make a positive difference in their lives. Only the most qualified, committed, and caring candidates are chosen to be part of the SuperCamp team. Our facilitators go through over 300 hours of extensive training in the proprietary Quantum Learning system. They not only learn the why of the system, but are taught the how to effectively teach students the specialized learning techniques that lead to the outstanding results we achieve. SuperCamp is an annual tradition for many of our staff members who feel they get as much from the experience as they give to the students.

On the first day of SuperCamp, students are assigned to teams of 10 to 12 campers, each of which has two team leaders. The team leaders are responsible for the cohesion for their teams for the duration of camp and help them to form close, supportive bonds. Each year we receive close to a thousand applications from college students across the globe who have heard of our program and are passionate about making changes in the lives of children. Because of the number of enthusiastic applicants, we are able to hand pick the best candidates to ensure your child is constantly surrounded by positive, encouraging role models. Our student-to-staff ratio of four to one enables us to give your child the attention they deserve and require for a successful outcome. In addition, we have a site administrator on campus to answer any questions you may have during your childs time at SuperCamp, as well as a medically trained wellness person (many are registered nurses) to administer medications and help with any aches and scrapes that may occur. Junior Forum
SuperCamp's Junior Forum is for middle school students entering grades 68. Students discover their individual learning styles, develop skills for managing a heavier academic schedule, and learn how to deal with increased social pressure. Junior Forum lays the foundation to prepare your middle school student for success. Students learn the why behind how they learn. They start to realize that they are in charge of their learning, and understand how their brain processes information. Like all SuperCamp programs, Junior Forum focuses on academic, life and career skills. With this younger group, we dive deeper into three key areas that are essential for middle school success: 1. Time Management: With six different teachers, heavier homework loads and more extracurricular activities, time management is one of the most important skills for pre-teens to master. SuperCamp teaches students to take ownership of their time. 2. Quantum Strategies: Middle school students are very literal. At SuperCamp we break down the learning process, so that students know what they have to do in school every day to do better. Our 10-24-7 system helps students learn and retain content from the time the lesson is introduced. We give them a concrete structure of how to study so that theyre prepared to do well on homework, quizzes, projects and tests. 3. Communication: In 21st Century learning, communication is considered one of the most important skills for students to grasp. At Junior Forum, students learn to communicate with teens from different areas, schools and backgrounds. Using our system for clear communication students have the opportunity to step on stage for public speaking, express their thoughts with our Think In Ink writing process, and understand best practices for interacting with parents, teachers, and peers. Junior Forum provides students with a foundation of leadership skills that will begin to help them immediately in academic group projects and extracurricular activities. The 8 Keys of Excellence are the cornerstone of the Junior Forum leadership training. This set of principles to live by helps students gain a sense of who they are and what they stand for, which is a key aspect of becoming a great leader.

Senior Forum
SuperCamp's Senior Forum is for high school students entering grades 912. Our graduates learn strategies to build study skills, ease school stress, embrace leadership and increase test scoresincluding the SAT and ACT. Senior Forum prepares your high school student for success by teaching students how to apply critical thinking to everything they do. Teens learn what is important to them, why they learn the way they do, and how to apply a variety of strategies. Like all SuperCamp programs, Senior Forum focuses on academic, life and career skills. With high school students we dive deeper into three key areas that are essential for high school and college-prepsuccess: 1. Learning Techniques: At SuperCamp your child will learn a wide range of specialized strategies applicable in any learning situation. Knowing how to apply each one in the appropriate setting is just as important as learning the strategies themselves. Our goal is to give students the ability to discern what will work best in each situation, and empower them to make a web of connections among the strategies in the Quantum Learning system. 2. Emotional and Relational Strategies: Senior Forum is a major pattern interrupt for teens. Everything in their life shifts for 10 days. Theyre living in a college dorm room, eating in a campus cafeteria, and are surrounded by a brand new group of friends from around the world. Separated from technology, students learn how tocommunicate without a cell phone, iPad, or other electronic device in their hands. We teach them communication strategies that build relationships, including our OTFD process to resolve conflict and our four-part apology to take ownership of their actions. These create positive patterns to apply in their lives when they return home. 3. Reputation Management: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and other social networks are integrated into every aspect of a 21st century teens life. This generation of digital natives is all about sharing everything they do from eating to major events in their lives. At SuperCamp we understand the importance of representing yourself in a positive light online. College recruiters and employers all look at online activity to determine a students character. Teens learn about FIMAGE (fear of image) and are given the support to effectively manage their online reputation. Senior Forum integrates the 8 Keys of Excellence principles to live by into all aspects of our program. Students gain valuable leadership experience as they explore ways they can take Ownership of their actions, motivate others when they Speak with Good Purpose, and see a project to completion with Commitment. They learn the importance of Integrity in a leader and understand that Failure Leads to Success.

10-Day Overview
Senior Forum High School Summer Camp Schedule
Senior Forum is SuperCamp's 10-day high school summer camp for students entering grades 9 12 in the fall. Students live in the dorms, eat in the school cafeterias and get to experience campus life at top universities around the country. 10-Day High School Camp Schedule: Curious about what goes on each day at Senior Forum? Check out the overview below. Day 1: Students arrive, check in, meet their roommate, and get settled in their dorm rooms. Music fills the air as team leaders pump up the energy and encourage everyone to engage in

get to know you activities. When the doors open to the main room SuperCamp officially begins. The afternoon session introduces the students to our staff, creates opportunities to let them bond with their new teams, and gets them acquainted with the campus. During the first day students are introduced to the 8 Keys of Excellence, explore their definition of success, and complete an 8 Keys Growth Gauge to see how they perceive themselves. Day 2: Teams are a critical part of the SuperCamp culture. On day two we focus on building a common language so that the students have a support system and feel comfortable moving out of their comfort zone, letting go of their FIMAGE, and starting to take the risks they need for optimal growth. Students are encouraged to keep a This Is It! attitude and examine how making the most of every moment can make a difference in their lives. New traditions are established, academic classes are introduced, and students start to realize the benefits of being in a new environment and moving out of their comfort zone. Day 3: On day three, students tackle who they are as learners. They start to learn how their brain works and realize that they are in control of their learning. The shift begins as they learn that they have the ability to get different results by creating a state change. Students bring this knowledge into the classroom as theyre introduced to Quantum Strategies, and begin academic rotations: Math Mastery, Creative Thinking, and SAT/ACT Preview. Speak with Good Purpose is the Key of the day, as we emphasize the importance of good communication. Day 4: The true paradigm shift begins on day four. As teens embrace the Key of Ownership and begin to take responsibility for their actions, they realize that learning can actually be fun. Students start letting go of their fears and expanding their comfort zone as they experience for themselves that Failure Leads to Success. In the afternoon, they continue to build the level of trust with their team by engaging in a series of trust activities. In the evening session, we welcome the outdoor adventure staff and explore safety and expectations. Day 5: Outdoor Adventure Day is a metaphor for life. Students challenge themselves in a safe physical environment, where teammates and friends hold the safety lines and cheer each other on to success. As teens find the inner courage to step out onto a high wire and climb to the top of a pole, they start to experience a new level of confidence. In the evening, everyone talks about what they learned in the outdoor adventure and participate in a high-energy Movement Workshop to celebrate the day's achievements. Day 6: Students take the feeling of exhilaration from Outdoor Adventure Day and learn how to translate their physical accomplishments into the mental arena of the academic world. Day six is a big day as students realize the classroom is no different than the high ropes and requires the same amount of risk and fear to be successful. They start to hold themselves accountable to a goal and find the internal motivation to be the best they can be in the classroom. They take their new-found confidence, let go of labels and masks and actively make the choice to start living above the line. Day 7: Learn. Learn. Learn. Now that the skills have been ingrained, the students dive deeper into a heavy rotation of academics. They start to realize that what they have learned before impacts what they learn today. They experience more and more success moments as their speed and comprehension increases in Quantum Reading, their ability to recall information amazes them in Quantum Memory and their confidence soars in test-taking. The Key of the day is Integrity and the teens examine how they show up in their lives both in the classroom and at home. We explore their relationships with their parents and encourage them to be open to looking at old patterns from a new perspective. Day 8: Morning traditions continue as the students complete their last full day of academic rotations. Today is a celebration as the teens realize that they truly understand who they are as a learner, how to succeed in every subject, and what they need to do to be successful in all areas of their life. We discuss the Key of Flexibility and consider how to translate SuperCamp into the real world. In the evening, students are given the opportunity to find their voice and express themselves through poetry. They realize that people want to hear what they have to say and feel inspired to share their thoughts and feelings in the future.

Day 9: Today students get to test their new skills in a Reality Simulation. They encounter real life peer distractions, academic challenges, and different teaching styles, forcing them to apply their Quantum Learning Strategies in a simulated school setting. During this time, each student meets with a team leader to examine their online reputation and evaluate how theyre presenting themselves to college recruiters and future employers. The afternoon is all about goal setting. Students identify a goal, imagine what it would feel like to achieve it, and formulate a plan to make it a reality. They participate in a barrier breaking activity to overcome obstacles that are holding them back in their lives. In the evening, each student has the opportunity to stand before the entire camp and declare their Commitment to achieve their goal. The day concludes with individual strength acknowledgments as team members gives and receives accolades for their achievements. Day 10: Graduation day is here! For the past ten days, the students have been on an incredible learning journey. Now is the time to celebrate their success and discover the Key of Balance. Students take a test to discover what theyre passionate about and identify what they really want in their livesthen they look at how to pursue their passion. And its saying goodbye to their new friends and reconnecting with family. Its an amazing celebration as parents get to experience the atmosphere of SuperCamp and many of the learning and life skills their child has learned.

Leadership Track
SuperCamp doesnt end after the summer. Our year-long grad support makes sure your student is able to stay on track throughout the school year. We also invite our grads to come back and step into a leadership role at SuperCamp the following summer by enrolling in Leadership Track. Available in both Junior and Senior Forum, this program is designed specifically for our return students to go deeper into the SuperCamp curriculum. We place them in situations where they can mentor other students by modeling the 8 Keys of Excellence and academic strategies to their peers. Our team leaders give Leadership Track students

focused coaching on topics like what makes a good leader opportunities to step out of their comfort zone in front of the group situations where they can display initiative and practice communication and critical thinking moments to practice their leadership style with other teens feedback on where theyre doing well and where they can grow, building their confidence in their abilities Students in the Leadership Track come home feeling challenged and empowered to live up to their full potential and to assume leadership roles in many areas of their lives.

Leadership Forum
Leadership Forum was created as the ultimate SuperCamp life skills program. It is designed for students who have completed Senior Forum, and Senior Forum Leadership Track. Leadership Forum is a transformational seven-day program filled with teens who love learning, love to challenge themselves, and are ready to embark on a journey of leadership. These students have been living the 8 Keys of Excellence for at least two years and are ready to share these values with the world. At SuperCamp Leadership Forum we take the 8 Keys of Excellence to the next level with the Four Diamonds:

Vision Model Team Action Teens are often asked to demonstrate leadership skills based on the assumption that they know what it means to be a leader. At SuperCamp, we realize that we cant just ask a teen to be a role model for their peers without teaching them how to communicate effectively listen to others formulate an opinion debate a topic navigate the waves of change remain fluid and flexible reach a consensus while still holding true to their beliefs SuperCamp Leadership Forum challenges students physically on the ropes courses, mentally in the classroom, and emotionally as they learn to work with others. We create an atmosphere where students facilitate their own learning and set goals in an experiential setting. By the end of the program students understand what their strengths are as a leader, the role they play on a team, and how to bring out the best in other people. They discover what is possible with little to no resources aside from their brain and their willingness to take action.

Curriculum
At SuperCamp, our curriculum is about making learning fun and engaging. In this environment, students in ourJunior Forum and Senior Forum programs gain the skills necessary to become better learners. Unlike other academic camps that focus on one discipline, such as writing or math, SuperCamp's summer academic programs provide students with long-term value by showing them how to learn more effectively in every subject, as well as how to live their best lives. Some years ago Dr. Howard Gardner changed our thinking about intelligence from How smart are you? to How are your smart? At SuperCamp students explore his multiple intelligences that define eight different ways to demonstrate intellectual ability. They identify which of the following intelligences fit how they are smart, and how to use that information to enhance their learning.

Spatial-Visual Linguistic-Verbal Interpersonal Musical-Rhythmic Naturalistic Bodily-Kinesthetic Intrapersonal Logical-Mathematical We all take in information through three learning channelsvisual, auditory, and kinesthetic though our brains tend to have a preference for one of these. At SuperCamp, students identify their personal learning preference and learn valuable strategies to enhance their learning by utilizing all three channels. Understanding how the mind approaches learning can have a significant effect on a student's performance in school. Students who attend one of our educational summer camps will be able to learn, comprehend, and recall information more easily, which can lead to better grades, and ultimately to a higher GPA. Similarly, studying becomes a much easier task once a student knows how to utilize the customized style-specific techniques they learn. In addition, the following topics that empower students to be successful in their academic and personal lives are covered indepth:

Study Strategies Reading Writing Note-Taking/Mind Mapping Memory Math SAT/ACT College-Prep 8 Keys of Excellence Character Program 21st Century Skills Communication and Relationships Leadership Breaking Through Personal Barriers Motivation and Goal Setting

Academic Skills
When it comes to academics SuperCamp believes: 1. Every child is capable of learning. 2. People learn in different ways. 3. Learning is most effective in a joyful, engaging, and challenging environment.

SuperCamp's academic summer camp curriculum provides middle school, high school, and college students with valuable age/grade-specific learning skills that benefit them in all subject areas. SuperCamp uses the Quantum Learning system to facilitate effective learning aligned with the Common Core State Standards. SuperCamp is a comprehensive educational program based on 21st Century learning skills that educate the whole child. Many learning models focus solely on instructional design, often neglecting factors that influence the quality of learning. Our Quantum Learning system provides students with the tools to achieve better comprehension and retention in all academic areas. The Quantum Learning system is an orchestration of the following core components:

A solid Foundation of alignment through clearly defined expectations, values and goals An empowering Atmosphere where students feel safe and supported, exhibiting good character and experiencing a strong sense of belonging Effective Design where lessons are created using elements that incorporate how the brain learns and retains content Engaging Delivery that uses a multisensory approach and maximizes student participation and comprehension A supportive classroom Environment that is inviting, comfortable, and stimulating

Parents of SuperCamp grads have reported that when their kids come home they see a major shift. Heres what some parents have said "This is the first time in history that my son ever got straight As! He is using memory techniques, Quantum Reading and note-taking skills. I am proud! He is proud!"Connie, SuperCamp grad
parent

"My son never seemed interested in getting good grades. When he did homework he did not bother to turn it in. He had high As in tests but zeros in homework. After SuperCamp he has not missed a single assignment. SuperCamp was worth every penny we spent."Anita, SuperCamp
grad parent

1. Quantum Strategies
In Quantum Strategies your student learns how to create an optimal learning environment. When studying at home things such as excess paper, books, technology and other clutter distracts students. At SuperCamp we teach the why behind clearing the clutter and the how to create a brain-friendly study area. In addition, students get focused training on many different learning strategies to help them retain information taught in the classroom, engage with their teacher, and ultimately increase their grades.

Notes:TM
The holy grail of learning is meaning. Students who take ownership of their learning and truly understand how their brain processes information are able to commit the information to their long-term memory. This is the key to effective learninginformation learned in this way sticks with them, unlike when they just memorize it for the test. Notes:TM, our specialized note-taking strategy, gives your child the skills necessary to not only take notes but to make notes meaningfuland memorableonce they leave the classroom.

By using all three learning channels (visual, auditory and kinesthetic) students are more likely to retain the information in theirlong-term memory. Location memory is one of many memorization techniques we teach at SuperCamp that allow your child to do better on tests and recall information long after the test is over. By creating stories around things that are familiar to students, SuperCamp facilitators show them how to use such familiar settings and attach any list of information to themenabling them to absorb the information easier and faster. At

SuperCamp you child will learn how to use this technique for things like memorizing the first 12 presidents of the United States in a creative, fun, and effective way.

Power Pegs
What would you say if you could learn a list of up to 20 words, phrases or objects within minutes? This Quantum strategy allows your child to do just that. The ability to memorize long lists of information is invaluable to students, and can cut their study time considerably. We teach students visual, auditory, and kinesthetic tricks that allow them to recall any kind of list backward, forward, and everything in between. More than just a party trick, this technique helps students to memorize quickly and frees up more of their time for family and extracurricular activities.

Mind-Mapping
In mind mapping, a concept created by Tony Buzan, students visually outline information and thoughts in a colorful tree-like format that facilitates understanding and learning. At SuperCamp, students learn and practice this technique and become familiar with its many advantages such as recalling information they have read, processing information they have learned in class, and organizing their thoughts for a writing assignment.

2. Quantum Reading
Reading comprehension is an integral part of any childs education. Being able to read faster and still comprehend the material gives your child the edge they need to be successful in the 21st century. Quantum Reading does just this. At SuperCamp we teach students how to prepare themselves to read for speed and comprehension. They learn the ideal environment for reading (including the fact that lying in bed is not the best). Next we teach them to shift their state and prepare their minds to access the appropriate brainwaves for optimal learning. And finally they learn valuable reading techniques that include:

superscanning large amounts of content using a visual guide mind mapping for better comprehension communicating what they read

The Quantum Reading process helps students to increase their focus and comprehension, making their reading more meaningful and memorable.

3. Quantum Writing
Being a powerful writer is a priceless skill for both school and life. All students know that theres nothing worse than staring at a blank piece of paper when theyre trying to begin a writing assignment. The key to successful writing is all about narrowing the gap between whats in your mind and whats on that page in front of you. In Quantum Writing we help students bridge that gap by teaching them to:

fastwrite to get lots of ideas on paper

mind map to organize their content cluster to expand their ideas write colorfully to maximize the impact of their story

Quantum Writing helps students jump-start the creative process, make their words more powerful, and show rather than tell their story. Students discover many different ways tofind their voice and fill their pages.

4. Math Mastery
Math can be a challenging subject for many students. Acknowledging negative feelings about math is the first step in our Math Mastery process. Then we create fun ways for students to overcome their anxieties about math and realize how to apply HOW they learn to any problemsolving situation. SuperCamp uses a system called MAPS to make math more friendly. Students learn how to use the following techniques to turn math class into an enjoyable experience:

Music Association Picturing Stories For some this translates into a rap about the quadratic equation. For others its a story to bring meaning to the order of operations. After each student has practiced ways to incorporate MAPS into their mastery of math, we put on the Integer Olympics. This is a fun and safe environment for students to apply what theyve learned and realize that creating their own song, picture or story really works.

5. SAT/ACT
More than two million students take the SAT andACT each year. As this number rises so does the competition for students to get into their school of choice. At SuperCamp, we prep your student to learn the skills necessary to ease their anxiety and build their confidence so on test day they can perform to the best of their ability. SuperCamp helps students take a step back and get into the minds of the test creators. Students learn to ask themselves questions such as:

Do they want me to think critically on this question? Is there a better answer then the most obvious? How are questions laid out on SAT vs. the ACT These types of questions open a students mind on how the test was created, and help them answer the test questions more accurately. Effective time management is another key skill for success on these standardized tests. How much time should be spent on each question? Should one read all of the questions first and then go back to answer them? Answers to these and other questions are extremely beneficial for students tackling the SAT and ACTand we cover them all. All the test prep in the world wont make a difference if a students anxiety is too high. SuperCamp empowers your child to acknowledge they know what they know and let go of the emotion around the test. Your child will leave SuperCamp with valuable strategies to focus their attention , bolster their confidence, and ease their anxiety before and during any test situation.

Life and Career Skills

There is more to learning than academics. As parents we know that the workplace has changed at a rapid pace as technology becomes more advanced. The world has become more and more reliant on technology and we need to prepare kids today for the jobs of tomorrow that havent even been created yet. To do this, we must to equip them with the right skill set to be successful in school, work and life. Critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity (the four Cs) are part of the P21 Framework (Partnership for 21st Century Skills) and are important for the newCommon Core State Standards. Students who attend SuperCamp are given real-life team-building opportunities to not only learn these skills, but also to apply them in a group of their peers. Virtually every camper at SuperCamp benefits in one way or another from the life skills curriculum. The life skills training areas we cover include:

Establishing a code of character for personal excellence Exploring 21st century career skills Building communication and relationship strategies Moving out of comfort zones Understanding the character traits of a good leader Developing realistic goals and motivation

SuperCamp is a unique academic and career preparation experience. Your child is put into a highly orchestrated positive environment that allows them to grow personally as well as academically. The curriculum is designed for each student to feel safe to express themselves, explore who they are, and connect with one another. As a result, SuperCamp students often form long-lasting friendships because they feel their peers understand who they really are inside and out.

1. 8 Keys of Excellence
Excellence is not an act, but a habit.Aristotle Excellence definition: worth, greatness, good qualities in high degree The 8 Keys of Excellence character program is the foundation on which SuperCamp is built. The students are immersed in the 8 Keys for the duration of SuperCamptheyre posted on walls, modeled by staff, and woven into each days activities. All students agree to live by these principles while at SuperCamp, creating a feeling of community and trust, and a sense of belonging in an open, friendly environment. The benefits of the SuperCamp programwith the 8 Keys of Excellence at its corehave been noted worldwide. Studies show SuperCamp graduates significantly increase selfconfidence and motivation, improve their grades, participate more in school, and feel measurably better about themselves. We really need to bring excellence back as a standard if the 8 Keys of Excellence was in every school in America and being taught in the homes it would literally transform the country.
Jack Canfield, Author, Chicken Soup for the Soul Series

The 8 Keys of Excellence were created many years ago by studying people who had achieved great success while maintaining personal excellence. We identified the traits and principles they shared, and those that came up most often became our 8 Keys of Excellence. They include generally accepted concepts like Integrity, Commitment and Flexibility. The 8 Keys are:

Integrity Match behavior with your values Demonstrate your positive personal values in all you do and say. Be sincere and real.

Failure Leads to Success Learn from mistakes View failures as feedback that provides you with the information you need to learn, grow and succeed.

Speak with Good Purpose Speak honestly and kindly Think before you speak. Make sure your intention is positive and your words are sincere.

This Is It! Make the most of every moment Focus your attention on the present moment. Keep a positive attitude.

Commitment Make your dreams happen Take positive action. Follow your vision without wavering.

Ownership Take responsibility for actions Be responsible for your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. Own the choices you make and the results that follow.

Flexibility Be willing to do things differently Recognize what's not working and be willing to change what you're doing to achieve your goal.

Balance Live your best life Be mindful of self and others while focusing on what's meaningful and important in your life.

2. 21st Century Skills

The challenges facing students ahead are mounting. We now have a global economy where market competitionnationally and internationallyis fierce. With the rapid growth of technology, businesses are finding that what worked 10 years ago may not be as effective today. As a result, workplaces have to adapt and become more innovative. In addition to the three Rs, (reading, writing, and mathematics) students now need to learn applied skills such as creativity and critical thinking to be competitive when they enter the workforce. To succeed in todays workplace, young people need more than basic reading and math skills. They need substantial content knowledge and information technology skills; advanced thinking skills; flexibility to adapt to change; and interpersonal skills to succeed in multi-cultural, crossfunctional teams..J. Willard Marriott, Jr., Chairman and CEO, Marriott International, Inc. SuperCamp weaves 21st Century Curriculum into everything we do to build both cognitive abilities and social skills. Students grow in the following key areas:

Critical thinking Learning and problem solving Creativity and innovation Cooperation and collaboration Communication and relationship building Being of service Leadership

Living your best life

SuperCamp is powered by our Quantum Learning system, which is successfully used in thousands of classrooms across the country. For over 30 years we have integrated the four Cs into our curriculum with outstanding results: Critical Thinking: Our campers realize that many of our test-taking skills require more strategy than knowledge. Students learn how to utilize divergent and convergent problem-solving techniques to be more successful on standardized tests. They also take in ways to use critical thinking to overcome challenges in their everyday lives. Communication: To be successful in school, work and life, people need to be able to effectively articulate their thoughts. Students learn our system for clear communication that includes our affinity process to get to know each other on a deeper level to create a higher level of respect, the OTFD system to help manage conflict, and the 4-part apology. Collaboration: Teens learn new skills in a group environment, work together to practice these skills with team challenges, and experience the importance of working together during our ropes course activity. Creativity: Students are taught creative strategies like mind mapping, our Quantum Writing process, andQuantum Strategies.

3. Communication and Relationships

One of the reasons we love working with teens is that their relationship skills are works in progress. Its all a process of discovery: determining who they are in relation to the people in their world; sorting out the meaning of the interactions they have with others; and dealing with the flood of complex, conflicting, and sometimes intense emotions that result. Teen relationships are kind of like a frontierthey are undiscovered territory. They face endless possibilities, because at this stage in their lives so many doors are opening for them. Over the years we have identified the seven most common difficulties that teens face. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Troubled relationships Emotional hurt Negative self-image Fear of disruptive change Poor grades Lack of focus Low motivation

At SuperCamp we empower students to process their experiences to increase personal accountability, develop a no-blame attitude, and take ownership of their needs, wants and dreams. Using our OTFD clear communication system, understanding FIMAGE (fear of image), and choosing to live above the line allows teens to shift their perspective and change their behavior.

4.

Leadership

Leadership has been described as organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal." At SuperCamp we weave in leadership skills throughout our curriculum. An important aspect of leadership is understanding how to empower yourself and others to move beyond your comfort zone to accomplish a goal. Students learn leadership techniques such as how to:

Be powerful communicators Resolve conflicts Live the 8 Keys of Excellence Lead by example Use critical thinking to make better decisions Apply creativity when faced with challenges Feel confident in their abilities Motivate with a sense of humor

Students are introduced to these leadership concepts in our Junior Forum and Senior Forum programs. Returning graduates can take their leadership skills a step further by enrolling in our Leadership Track, Leadership Forum, and Quantum-U programs.

5. Breaking Through Personal Barriers

Students come out of our programs sparkling with confidence because theyve come face to face with their own success. We dont leave it to chance, belief, or wishful thinking. We let them experience for themselves just how good they are. We build in opportunities for all students to succeed. They dont just believe they can be successful, they know itbecause theyve done it. Teens shouldnt have to miss out on achievements because theyre afraid they will fail. At SuperCamp, students break through the self-confidence barrier over and over again with the help of what we call the Success Model. We use this strategy throughout our programs, not just for academics, but for life skills and attitude.

Students first experience small private successes, then work their way up to giant public ones. At SuperCamp we believe: 1. Every person is capable or learning. 2. People learn in different ways. 3. Learning is most effective in a joyful, engaging, and challenging environment.

By identifying and breaking through personal barriers, teens at SuperCamp realize what they are capable of, become motivated from within, and ultimately transform their apathy into enthusiasm.

5.

Motivation and Goal Setting

Goal setting and motivation go hand in hand. How good does it feel to set a goal and reach it? This excitement motivates us to set another goal, and so on. However, teens are rarely taught how to set and pursue goals. At SuperCamp, our facilitators teach your child not only the how and why behind setting goals but what it feels like to accomplish them. We achieve this by helping them to:

Identify passions and dreams Label obstacles that keep us from reaching our goals Translate promising ideas into useful applications Create a plan of action Understand the difference between practical goals and long shots

At SuperCamp teens discover they are capable of setting goals in every area of their lives personal, school, career, family, social, athletics, and others.

By setting goals, your child will have a clear plan of attack for success in the school year. In creating their goals, they take ownership of them and feel more motivated to make their dreams a reality.

Results
Over the last 30 years SuperCamp has taught more than 64,000 students from 85 countries how to become better learners and increase their grades, confidence and motivation. The measurable results from our graduates continue to amaze us year after year.

Increased Grades and Test Scores

SuperCamp graduates see outstanding improvements in their grades and standardized test scores by using the skills they learn at camp. Our research shows:

73 percent of students increase their grades. Students average 100-point increases on their SAT scores. 77 percent of graduates have gone directly to a four-year college after high school. (Note: The national average is 46 percent.)

Better Relationships and Self-esteem

Beyond academics, graduates experience a shift in their relationships and confidence at home and at school.

77 percent report an improvement in family relationships 93 percent improve peer relationships 81 percent feel more confident in their daily lives 84 percent feel their self-esteem was higher Many parents tell us that their child pleaded with them please dont send me to an academic summer camp. At the end of their stay the majority say, thank you mom and dad for sending me here. I never knew I had so much potential.

1. Grades
Grades are not always a true reflection of your childs ability or potential. This may be caused by any of several factors including lack of effort, low self-confidence, anxiety at test time, not understanding their learning style, or even just lacking the skills to learn effectively. SuperCamp helps with all of these problems faced by teens. Our research shows that 73 percent of our graduates increase their grades. Students maximize their learning and improve their grades when they focus on their dominant learning style. We all take in information through three learning channelsvisual, auditory, and kinestheticthough our brains tend to have a preference for one of these. We help students identify their personal learning preference and teach them valuable strategies to enhance their learning by focusing on their strengths. Following are some highlights of the three learning styles. These are obviously generalizations, but you may have noticed some of these characteristics in your child.

Visual: Talks fast, moves fast, neat, orderly, sits up straight and stares until he/she gets the picture, takes notes to create a visual representation of content. Says I see what you mean, I get the picture. These students learn most easily when they see what they need to learn. Auditory: Talks in a rhythmic pattern with much inflection, talks to everyone/everything, has radar ears and a CD-recorder brain. Says I hear what youre saying or That sounds good to

me. These students learn best when they hear and talk about what they need to learn.

Kinesthetic: Moves slowly, talks slowly or with pauses between ideas, big gestures, takes the scenic route through the classroom, digs for notes. Says I can do that. These students learn best when their learning involves movement or touch. When your teen knows how they process information and learns ways to incorporate the other learning channels into their studies they greatly improve their ability to learn and retain information. Students knowledge of how they learn best combined with the many other academic strategies we teachincluding mind mapping, narrative chain and power pegs memorization techniques, and circuit learning and 10-24-7 for transferring information to long-term memory are the reasons so many grads increase their grades after SuperCamp.

2. Confidence
Its challenging being a teen. Youre trying to figure out who you are, who you want to be, and who everyone wants you to be. Every day youre being asked to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. This is a tough task for adults, let alone teens that are experiencing emotional and physical changes due to hormones. At SuperCamp, we help students realize theyre not alone and that what theyre feeling is real and not unusual. Moving outside our comfort zone allows us to recognize our fears, and be confident we can overcome them. Teens know what its like to be uncomfortable outside their comfort zone, but theyve also had positive experiences outside their comfort zone in the past:

The first time they rode their bike Learning to drive a car Singing karaoke All of these things were scary at first, but they discovered they could do them. Using our Quantum Learning Success Model we create opportunities for your child to build confidence by experiencing numerous "success moments. Our safe environment encourages students to try new things. We allow them to be successful and we allow them to fail. At SuperCamp we view failures as feedback that provides us with the information we need to learn, grow and succeed. Using the Failure Leads to Success Key students gain confidence to try new things, and let go of outside pressures and opinions. When they truly believe in themselves, theyre able to build confidence, motivation and self-esteem. All young people have the potential for greatness. Incredible things happen when they get a chance to see that greatness for themselvesand to have other people acknowledge them for it. This is what we do at SuperCamp.

3. Motivation
Nobody can motivate kids just by telling them to be more motivated. Intrinsic motivation, which by definition comes from within, is the most powerful motivator. At SuperCamp, we teach teens about intrinsic motivation by helping them get in touch with their WIIFMs. Short for whats in it for me, WIIFMs are the motivating force behind nearly everything we do. Teens and adults alike can accomplish almost anything when their WIIFMs are strong enough. The most powerful WIIFMs are immediatepleasure well gain right away, rather than at some undetermined future time. Theyre also positive. Were more likely to motivate ourselves to gain pleasure than we are to avoid pain. Most teens are unable to see the WIIFM for doing well on a test. As parents we try and explain that doing well in school increases your ability to get into a great college. Teens often have difficulty being motivated by it will help me some day. At SuperCamp we help teens tap into the

powerful WIIFMs that are already built into schools successlike the feeling of learning something new and the thrill of accomplishment. We help them remember that success feels great and is an emotional rush. We celebrate these moments with them and teach them how to motivate from within so they can continue to enjoy the feeling of success day after day. We help them focus on what they like about school, and give them tangible WIIFMs to become more deeply engaged in their learning.

4. Self-esteem
Self-esteem is about having confidence and satisfaction in oneself. Low self-esteem manifests itself in many ways. Some teens who suffer from low self-esteem become easily coerced by peer pressure to make bad choices such as doing drugs, bullying, and playing hooky. Others pour a lot of energy into just blending in. They conform to what they think is normal and avoid any situation that might make them stand outeven being good at school. At the heart of this issue is negative self-image. For a kaleidoscope of reasons, teens can end up feeling bad about themselves. They may become afraid to show their true selvessometimes even to their parents. At SuperCamp, we have our own word for why someone might have low self-esteemFIMAGE. Short for fear of image, FIMAGE can be seen very easily. Teens create images for themselves all the time. Their image shows up in their

clothing music language attitude hair make-up hobbies friends Some people spend a lot of time creating and preserving their image. They avoid things that make them look uncool, things that arent good for their image. They fear damage to their image. Thats FIMAGE. During SuperCamp, students learn to confront their FIMAGE and question the message it sends. In our process, teens have the opportunity to do some wacky things in front of their peers to practice letting go of their FIMAGE. Nobody can look cool doing these thingsthats the point. They can have the experience of looking uncool in front of their peers and realize nobody judges them because of it. They become more confident in who they really are and build healthy selfesteem as a result.

FAQ
SuperCamp is a truly unique experience where junior high and high school students are able to live on a college campus and learn skills that will help them succeed in school and in life. With our 30+ years experience in 14 countries, we know its a big deal for parents to send their kids away to camp. You want to know that this is a quality academic program with credentialed staff, that your son or daughter will be in a safe nurturing environment, and that the program caters to their individual needs. Below are the answers to our most commonly asked questions. If you have other questions or would like more information, please call us at 1-800-285-3276. How do you get such phenomenal academic results in such a short time? At SuperCamp we focus on teaching kids HOW to learn. Our methodology begins with the individual student. We help them understand the science behind how the brain processes information and identify how they learn best. Teaching your child about the qualities of their personal learning style opens the door to their full potential. Once they identify themselves as a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner we then teach them how to effectively take notes, memorize information, and excel on tests by utilizing their preferred learning style as well as enhancing their use of the other styles to maximize their learning. The SuperCamp experience is orchestrated down to the minute to maximize the learning and growth for every student. Throughout SuperCamp, our focus is to empower your child with critical 21st Century Skills(communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, etc.) that are a vital part of the new Common Core State Standards and demanded today by teachers and employers.

How do you motivate my child? I've tried and I can't. Building confidence can do wonders for a child. At SuperCamp we inspire your son or daughter to develop higher levels of competence by creating what researchers call success moments. When adolescents experience these success moments over and over and over againas they do at SuperCampthey build up their belief in their ability to achieve, and ultimately increase their self-esteem, confidence, and motivation.

Will my child be safe and secure? SuperCamp has a track record of over 30 years of success, not only in terms of the results participants achieve, but also as a safe, secure environment. Students remain on campus at all times. On day one, we assign them to teams of 10 to 12 campers with two team leaders. The nature of our team-building exercises guarantees that your child will immediately feel supported by the team leaders and will quickly form close bonds with other campers. This supportive unit

allows your child to feel secure while they step out of their comfort zone. In addition, we have a trained wellness person (many are registered nurses) at every program who supports the emotional and physical well being of all kids at camp.

Who attends SuperCamp programs? Our participants are similar to those in a typical classroom. While students' grades range from straight A to struggling, the majority are somewhere in between. We believe that every child has the potential to achieve excellence when they are given the skills to learn and the gift of confidence. High achievers benefit by gaining learning skills that reduce their study time, increase their test scores, decrease their school stress, and improve their communication skills. Students who are struggling benefit by discovering new techniques to overcome the barriers that blocked their progress in the past, such as low self-esteem, lack of motivation, and inability to take effective notes, memorize information, and succeed on tests.

At what age do students benefit most? Students benefit in different ways at each age. Middle school students discover their individual learning styles and develop skills for dealing with a heavier academic schedule and increased social pressure. High school students learn strategies to build study skills, embrace leadership, and increase test scores, including the SAT and ACT. College-bound students master how to responsibly manage time, finances and increased independence along with the academic skills needed to thrive in a university setting. Each program builds on the program before, enabling students to continuously develop their SuperCamp skills.

How can SuperCamp help in college preparation? SuperCamp teaches the essential skills that our children need to succeed as students, employees, leaders, and citizens in the 21st century. Our program builds your childs communication skills, inspires critical thinking, fosters creativity, and encourages collaboration. When you combine these skills with practical learning strategies the result is an increase in grades and test scores. Seventy-three percent of SuperCamp graduates have seen an improvement in their grades and we consistently receive letters from parents informing us that their child was able to master tests such as the SAT and ACT because of the skills they learned at SuperCamp.

What kind of supervision is provided? The student-to-staff ratio is at least four-to-one. Students are assigned to teams, headed by two team leaders. Among other responsibilities, team leaders supervise and support the students on their team and live in the same residence halls, providing 24-hour guidance.

What are the backgrounds and experience of the SuperCamp staff? The people we hire are enthusiastic, supportive and committed to positively impacting the lives of our youth. Facilitators, the most visible leaders at SuperCamp, are chosen from among the top professional teachers and trainers in the country. Hundreds of applicants go through our selection process and only a few are chosen to train with SuperCamp. Many of our facilitators have advanced degrees and, more importantly, all have a natural ability to engage every student and bring out their personal greatness. Facilitators receive 300-plus hours of on-site training in Quantum Learning teaching methods before they direct the SuperCamp program.

The great majority of the rest of the camp staff are education majors or graduates. Not surprisingly, most of the staff returns year after year because they enjoy the experience of working with successful people in a dynamic accelerated learning program and the fulfillment of having a positive impact on the lives of the students. Learn more about several of the energetic educators who will lead our SuperCamp programs this summer.

Will students have free time for activities? Every afternoon, SuperCamp students have approximately 90 minutes for supervised "free time" during which they can choose to participate in a variety of activities or sports, go on a campus tour, or simply enjoy some down time.

How does SuperCamp differ from tutorial programs? The most fundamental difference involves the way we help facilitate lasting changes in a student's attitude toward school and motivation. At SuperCamp, students learn lifelong learning skills they can apply to any subject, skills that build competence and confidence and serve as a roadmap to academic success. When can parents observe the program? Throughout all sessions, parents are able to see whats going on by viewing daily photos from camp through our secure online camp photo site. Parents are invited to see the power of SuperCamp firsthand by attending the graduation ceremony on the last day of the program. This event is a great opportunity for you to experience the SuperCamp learning environment, ask the staff questions, and celebrate with your child. How do I get my child excited about SuperCamp? Many students are initially reluctant about attending an academic and life skills program, but much of that anxiety is based on the impression that SuperCamp will be "just like school." Once the students arrive on the first day they begin to understand that SuperCamp is nothing like their school experience. It is a dynamic environment filled with activities, music and learning without tests, homework or the competition they experience in school. Students learn how to make study time more efficient and leave more time available for other activities like arts, sports and time with friends and family. Are airfare and other travel costs included in the tuition? Although your childs airfare is not included in the tuition price, SuperCamp does provide courtesy shuttle service on arrival and departure days to and from designated airports. Please check the airport for your childs camp location on the Travel itinerary form before making any flight reservations. Campers traveling alone will be met at baggage claim by our SuperCamp staff who will be wearing SuperCamp T-shirts and carrying ID. Will my child be able to bring a laptop or other electronic device to SuperCamp? We are able to achieve our results by providing a safe, focused and engaging environment, free of distractions. For this reason, all audio/visual devices such as music players, TVs, stereos, iPads, laptops, etc. should be left at home. Students may bring a cell phone which must be checked in on arrival and can be checked out for calls on certain days for a limited time. The time of day will vary depending on the camp session. Although we allow students to make phone calls, we encourage them to limit their phone usage as we find that it distracts them from being fully engaged in the program. Just like you, we want your child to get the most out of his/her SuperCamp experience.
