Catholic Church and University in Peru fight over name.

The Pontifical Catholic University of Peru has called Catholic since its creation and Pontifical since September 1942, with the Vatican approbation. Now, there is a fight between university authorities and Catholic Church. To its critics in the church, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru is not deserving of its name. Teaching in the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru is contrary to pontiff, they say. Its ideas of Pontifical Catholic University are far from Roman Catholic orthodoxy, they argue. In their minds, the school should be called something else entirely. Its false advertising said Fernan Altuve, a conservative legal expert who supports a recent order by the Vatican that the school change its name by eliminating references to the Pope and the church. Its as if I sell a bottle that says Coca Cola but whats inside is Pepsi, said again Fernan Altuve. The fight over the name of what is considered one of the top universities in South America is part of a fierce battle over academic freedom and the authority of the Vatican that is unfolding here. La Catolica, as the university is known, is the alma mater of many of Perus elite, including The President Ollanta Humala. The clash has divided the community here. Now we have our news reporter who is outside of the university in order to interview a few students and know what they think about this situation. Vicky (reporter): Good evening. Here, there are different opinions between students. Good Evening, Can I ask them about the fight by the name of their university? Edison (Student1): Yes, We have little time because Were going to pass a difficult exam. Rafael (student2): Yes, Were in a hurry. Vicky (reporter): What do They think about the fight between your university and the catholic church? Edison (Student1): I support my university because universities in Peru are autonomous and they must be freedom of thought. Rafael (Student2): I support the catholic church. I entered this school because it was La Catolica and Im one semester away from graduating, and now my degree is going to say something different than Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Edison (Student1): But the prestige wont change, everybody think this university will be the same. The teachers, the subjects and all the things will be kept. Rafael (Student2): I disagree because the name of university is very important. There are many professionals with different degrees. The Pontifical Catholic University of Peru gave those degrees, if the name will change, What might happen with those degrees? Vicky (reporter): As you can see, there are different points of view from students, we can say that both parts Catholic Church and the university must try to negotiate in order to solve their differences. Lets go back to studio.
