9. The thermal efficiency of C.I engines is ------------------------ than S.I engines. 10. Define cycle and Air standard efficiency. Part - B Question number 11 to 18 carries each 5 mark) (8x5=40 marks)

11. An engine of 250 mm bore and 375 mm stroke works on Otto cycle. The clearance volume is 0.00263 m3. The initial pressure and temperature are 1 bar and 50C. If the maximum pressure is limited to 25 bar, find the following : (i) The air standard efficiency of the cycle. (ii) The mean effective pressure for the cycle. Assume the ideal conditions. 12. The stroke and cylinder diameter of a compression ignition engine are 250 mm and 150 mm respectively. If the clearance volume is 0.0004 m3 and fuel injection takes place at constant pressure for 5 per cent of the stroke determine the efficiency of the engine.Assume the engine working on the diesel cycle. 13. The swept volume of a diesel engine working on dual cycle is 0.0053 m3 and clearance volume is 0.00035 m3. The maximum pressure is 65 bar. Fuel injection ends at 5 per cent of the stroke. The temperature and pressure at the start of the compression are 80C and 0.9 bar. Determine the air standard efficiency of the cycle. Take for air = 1.4. 14. Derive expressions of efficiency of Dual Cycle and write the equation for Mean effective preesure 15. Sketch and explain the working principle of the following lubricating systems. (a) Force Feed (b) Combination of splash and force feed. 16.Draw the fuel injector for diesel engine and explain the working principle. 17. Compare S.I Engines and C.I engines. 18. sketch and explain working principle of four stroke petrol engine.
