3 Lodi High School Drama Clubs Production of Lil Abner Rate: Lodi High School Drama Club presented an original musical comedy by Norman Panama and Melvin Frank based on characters Al Capp, Lil Abner, at the Lodi High School theatre multiple times the past week. They have performed this production since Wednesday, May 2, 2012, but they recently had their biggest production on the date I went, Thursday, May 3, 2012. It was practically a full house! The director, Marcus Goodman, put on a good production, with the choreography produced by a student in the play, Vikki Wohl. Lil Abner is a production with many different scenes to put the audience through an emotional rollercoaster. As Sadie Hawkins Day approaches, Daisy Mae, played by Vikki Wohl, hopes to win the hand of Li'l Abner by catching him in the traditional race. A senator, Mayor DanL Dogmeat, played by Johnathan Fuches, comes to visit the residents of Dogpatch in order to tell them that their town is to be used as an atomic bomb testing ground, unless they can find something necessary and important about the town to keep it safe for their living conditions and unharmed by the testing. This sends the Yokum family into frenzy as Mammy Yokum, Pappy Yokum, and Lil Abner are left overwhelmed with what could be the last of their town. This leads to the possibility of Mammy Yokum's Yokumberry tonic, which Abner has been forced to take every day since he was a baby, being the key to saving their town from mass destruction. When residents of Dogpatch are notified by the government that they must evacuate, they try to persuade the government that their town is worth saving. Through the midst of it all, Earthquake McGoon, played by Luc Marceau, is still caught up with winning Daisy Mae during Sadie Hawkins Day so they can get married. Unfortunately, Daisy Mae wants to marry Li'l Abner, and Li'l Abner just wants nothing to do with Sadie Hawkins Day at all. Will Abner and Daisy Mae ever finally get together? Will Mammys Yokumberry tonic just do the trick to save their town? Come and find out on their last production, Saturday, May 5, 2012! Lil Abner was a well done production, with singing so powerful that it was stuck in my head for days! This production is thrilling and for a high school suffering many budget cuts, the scenery, props, and costumes were well done and portrayed the time period. There were very few errors and the audience thoroughly enjoyed it as they clapped along with certain parts. Maybe a few more rehearsals were needed to perfect the choreography, but the lines were memorized, and the actors surely worked hard to pull off such a tremendous production. It would be in everyones best interest to come and enjoy oneself while watching Lodi High Schools Lil Abner, and if you dont, well then shame on you.
