Today St Paul tells us that to love is the most important thing we can do. He even goes so far as to say that nothing we can do, no matter how great, means anything if we do not have love. He goes on to give us a description of love; patient, kind, not jealous or pompous, not inflated, rude or quick-temperedthe list goes on. How are you doing when it comes to loving others, especially your spouse? Attend the next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend on February 8-10, 2013. Contact Tim and Pat Doyle, 630-577-0778. MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE ANNUAL ST. JOSEPH TABLE

Interested in Serving at Mass? Altar Server Training
Mark your calendar for Christ the Kings annual St. Joseph Table to be held Sunday, March 10 at 1:00 P.M. in the Early Learning Academys gymnasium. This parishwide, family-oriented, community event is always loads of fun and is a wonderful opportunity to share food and companionship with family and friends. If you would like to help, please call Mary Ellen Clish, St. Joseph Table Chairman, at 1-630-495-1339. Volunteers are always needed and more than welcome. There will be more information forthcoming in future bulletins. The St. Josephs Day Committee St. Joseph Pray for us.

Saturday, February 9
9:00am until 10:30am Meet in the Church
Boys and Girls (men and women too!) in Fourth Grade and above, and who have received First Holy Communion, are invited to participate as Altar Servers to serve at Mass here at Christ the King. We typically have a minimum of two and a maximum of four Altar Servers at each Sunday (and Saturday Vigil) celebration. Special occasions, such as Holy Days of Obligation also provide opportunities for service. Youth and adults serving in the Altar Server ministry have a great responsibility to perform their ministry to very specific requirements and standards. In order to give all participants in this ministry the best possible opportunity to learn the processes and procedures, all servers are required to attend at a training session before they are placed on the server schedule. Youth and adults who are already serving will be required to attend one session each year to review our parish's specific procedures and continued catechesis. Each session includes completing contact forms, teaching the scheduling process, reviewing our handbook for servers, and practicing Altar Server activities. Parents are invited to attend the training sessions as an integral part of the service provided by our youth. Parents also share the responsibility to get Altar Servers to celebrations on time and properly dressed to serve. Our clergy greatly appreciate Altar Servers. If you are in the fourth grade and older, this is an excellent service ministry in which you may participate. Thank you for your service!

Would You Like to Volunteer?

All Christ the King Volunteers must be compliant with Safe Environment Standards. Safe Standards includes a onetime attendance of a Protecting God's Children Workshop, volunteer background check, and an Acknowledgement form on file. You can attend any PGC workshop by going to the web site www.virtusonline.org. If you would like to volunteer with Christ the King parish in any ministry please contact Eileen Maggiore at eileen@ctklombard.org or by phone at 630-396-6076.

Session Two: The Sacraments of Initiation Monday, February 4 At 7:00 pm in the church The theme of the second session is; If the Sacraments of Initiation are the foundations of the Christian life, how can I let them transform my daily life. We will look at the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

Father Barron calls Peter and Paul two indispensable men, the ones without whom the Church never would have emerged and survived. In telling each mans story, Father Barron shows how the Holy Spirit worked through apostles and disciples to build the Church. Feb 13, 2013 Week 6: A Body Both Suffering and Glorious- The Mystical Union of Christ and the Church. Clearly answering the question, What is the Church? Father Barron presents the reality of the Church as one, holy, catholic and apostolic. The Body of Christ can be seen all over the earth, while still escaping total understanding as the mystical union between Christ and his Church. Feb 20, 2013 Week 7: Word Made Flesh, True Bread of Heaven- The Churchs Sacrament & Worship. Father Barron explores the notion that all value is summed up in the liturgy, the supreme act by which we commune with God. Considered by the Catholic Faith to be the source and summit of its identity and mission, the Eucharist is the central practice of the Churchs culture.

Catechism Corner
Incorporated into Christ by Baptism, the person baptized is configured to Christ. Baptism seals the Christian with the indelible spiritual mark (character) of his belonging to Christ. No sin can erase this mark, even if sin prevents Baptism from bearing the fruits of salvation. (CCC, n. 1272)

Council of Catholic Women

Christ the King Parish Lombard Whats happeningFebruary 2013
February is the shortest month of the year and yet, the calendar is full of things to do. Get out your pencil, mark down the following dates. Plan to join us! February 13 - Ash Wednesday Lent begins early this year with Easter being celebrated on March 31st. In the magazine Christ is our Hope, Sr. Ann Shields suggests that we pray the Stations of the Cross during Lent. This can be done at church any time the church is open and Mass is not being said. Or we could pray the Stations at home. This could be done daily, by simply spending a few minutes thinking about each of the Stations and saying a prayer. Using pictures from prayer books or a Bible would be of help. Another suggestion if your schedule permits, come to Church for the Stations of the Cross at noon on Fridays during Lent. You are welcome to stay after Stations for a cup of soup. February 14 - Valentines Day - Reading about St. Valentine, we learned that he was a kind and giving priest who was martyred in Rome in 269 AD under the reign of Claudius II for helping fellow Christians and refusing to deny Christ. He has come to be known as the patron saint of love, young people and happy marriages. Today we see many examples of love as portrayed in the media. How do they compare with St. Valentines

THE 2013 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL APPEAL

THE LORD SUSTAINS HIS PEOPLE Bishop Conlons mailing asking for a pledge to the 2013 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal arrived in many of our parish households in early January. This Appeal is conducted at every parish in our sevencounty diocese. The funds contributed help people in our parish and throughout our diocese. It is very important to ensure that the Diocese of Joliet has the funds necessary to do Gods work. This year, the theme of the Appeal is The Lord Sustains His People. God constantly gives to us. His grace is ever present. His blessings are abundant. We can demonstrate our gratitude to God and help build the kingdom of God in our own parish and our own diocese by making a generous gift to the CMAA. In addition to helping those in need, the Appeal funds the operations of the diocese and services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish. If you have already made your pledge or contribution, thank you. If you have not, please answer the bishops request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be paid in 10 monthly installments. Thank you in advance for your support.

Stewardship Prayer
Lord God, You alone are the source of every
good gift, of the vast array of our universe, and the mystery of each human life. We praise you and we thank you for your great power and your tender, faithful love. Everything we are and everything we have is your gift, and after having created us you have given us into the keeping of Your Son,

Jesus Christ.
Fill our minds with His truth and our hearts with His love, that in His Spirit we may be bonded together into a community of faith, a parish family, a caring people. In the Name and Spirit of Jesus, we commit ourselves to be good stewards of the gifts entrusted to us, to share our time, our talent, our material gifts as an outward sign of the

Treasure we hold in Jesus. Amen

Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.
