To all potential student leaders: You must be of sound moral character attested by two letters of recommendation (one from a faculty/staff member and one from a person of the community). Freshman will need one letter of recommendation from a faculty/staff or person of the community. Must be free of legal or moral entanglements and must be able to serve in such a capacity to fulfill the students needs and wants. To the potential Miss Southern and Miss Sophomore candidates, you must be of sound moral character attested by two letters (one from a faculty/staff member and one from a person in the community. Miss Freshman, you must be of sound moral character attested by one letter from a faculty/staff member or person in the community. Must be free of legal or moral entanglements and must be able to financially defray expenses while serving as Miss Southern University at Shreveport or as a member of her court. The Southern University at Shreveport Office of Student Affairs and the Student Government Association would like to take this opportunity to encourage and congratulate you in showing your interest in participation in the governing process of the student body. The SGA is composed of all full-time students. Elections are held in the month of April (and September for freshman officers) to provide continuity and leadership during the summer session. The term for elected officials is one (1) year (August-July). All candidates must not be nominated for, run for, or serve in more than one SGA office. Qualification Requirements You must be in good standing with the University and a full-time student of the class in which you are to represent. You must be of high moral character and free of legal or moral entanglements that would cause the University embarrassment or ridicule. You must not have been suspended from the University for any reason during the year prior to nomination or dismissed from any position. Transfer students or returning students must have at least one (1) semester at Southern University at Shreveport.
STUDENT CENTER BOARD (SCB BOARD) The membership of the SAC Board shall consist of students, Faculty and or staff members and a person from the community appointed by the Chancellor of the University. The SCB director and/or advisor appointed by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs will serve as ex-officio member(s) of the Board. Membership on the SCB will be by election of the student body. In the event that the position remains open after the election, a SCB President may be nominated by the SGA President. They shall be elected in the
general election. All members of the SAC Board must have and maintain a 2.5 average or better. The President must have a 2.5 average or better. All members must be in good standing with the University and must not have been subject to any disciplinary action by the University. MISS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY at SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA and COURT Miss Southern Must be a naturally born female, unwed, have no children, and enrolled at Southern University at Shreveport as a full time student. Transfer students must have completed one semester at Southern University at Shreveport. Must have at least a 2.8 cumulative average as defined by the Registrars Office. Must be of the Sophomore Class Classification at the beginning of tenure of office and anticipate completing one (1) year at the Southern University at Shreveport Campus. Miss Sophomore Must be a naturally born female enrolled at Southern University at Shreveport as a full time student. Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative average as defined by the Registrars Office. Miss Freshman Must be a naturally born female enrolled at Southern University at Shreveport as a full time student. Must have a minimum cumulative average of a 2.5 for an advanced freshman or a minimum high school average of a 2.5 for beginning freshman. CAMPAIGN MATERIALS Campaign materials are limited to posters, banners, flyers and the like. All food products must be pre-wrapped or disturbed by a licensed caterer, with approval from the Director of Student Activities prior to serving. No animals are allowed in the campaign. All campaign materials must be in good taste and free from obscenities or reference to such. Any disrespect to other candidates or their campaign materials will not be tolerated. On the Day of Elections no campaign materials are allowed inside the JLV Student Center, including T-shirts, posters, and etc. On the day of elections no candidates or candidates staff members are allowed to solicit votes within the building in which the voting booths are housed. All campaigning must take place at least 100 ft from the polling place. No posters, banners or flyers are allowed on any glass surface, gold columns or the red sign sculpture on campus. No campaign material is allowed to be posted in the administration building. All campaign materials must be removed from the campus grounds within 24 hours before the elections or a fee may be allocated to your student account or you may be disqualified. Any violations of campaign rules and guidelines may result in immediate disqualification.
