INTRODUCTION
With the performance benchmarks changing day by day, thanks to globalization, and the customers expecting Zero defect in products delivered, it has become very imperative to control, manage and improve the process of any business. Understanding the process behaviour is of paramount importance. In addition Continual Improvement and Factual Approach to Decision Making have been emphasized by the ISO 9000 and the TS 16949 standards. The improvement process begins with suitable measurement of the process parameters, control them and improve them by suitable tools. The application of Seven Quality Control Tools, (popularly known as 7 tools of QC), is essential to realise these objectives and to accomplish the desired results in our process. These tools are so simple graphical tools, that they could be easily understood and implemented by the shop floor personnel. Japanese industries have reaped high benefits by applying them at the shop floor level. In the present scenario, wherein less than 100 PPM levels of quality are demanded, it is imperative to apply the7 QC at the shop floor level and realize the quality levels expectations. The tools are easy to understand and assimilate and very powerful when applied. The understanding and application of these tools shall ensure the achievement of desired quality levels and ensure the continual improvement of our process.
