Lead Inspection Technician
(To monitor the mechanical integrity of equipment through performing non-
destructive testing and inspection in accordance with planned schedule and
arrangement.)
• Non-destructive test (NDT):
 Perform ultrasonic (UT) thickness measurement of equipment and piping,
perform dye penetrant test (PT) of equipment, structure and piping, perform
magnetic particle test (MT) of equipment, structure and piping.
 Witness hydrostatic and pneumatic test of equipment and piping.
 Conduct remote visual inspection using boroscope, fiberscope and
videoscope.
 Perform hardness test. Witness Pressure Safety Valve service, calibrate and
pop test.

 Witness and coordinate contractor and outside inspector for testing UT flaw
detection, PT, magnetic particle inspection (MPI), conventional and
computed radiography test (RT), eddy-current test (ET), acoustic emission
test (AE), Acoustic Impact test (AI), Long Range UT, TOFD, RFET,
Corrosion Mapping and Scanning, Tower Scanning, IRIS, IR Thermograph,
and etc.)
 Inspect plant stationary equipment, externally and internally, as assigned,
including pressure vessels, columns, drums, heat exchangers, boilers,
coolers, tanks, valves and piping systems, including transfer piping, terminal
and jetty piping, loading arms and flexible hoses. Monitor and check
quality of equipments cleaning repair jobs.
 Coordinate for Radiograph job, review and interpreting radiograph film.
 Painting inspection, dry and wet film test.
 Undergone metrology training (use and calibration of gauges) either in a
classroom setting or while on the job to be able to use precision measuring
devices effectively.
 Give recommendation after inspection and testing. Interpret test result to
establish the actual condition of the equipment.
• Become familiar with manufacturing and assembly drawings , specifications or
sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product,
and sequence of operations.
• Welding Inspection:
 Make sure all relevant specification, documentation (WPS,WQT) and
drawing are obtain before any welding job start.
 Ensure all welder are qualified as per WQT.
 Confirm material, consumable and equipment certificate.
 Correct cutting method, preheat if required, joint preparation, distortion
control.
 Monitor and adhere to all welding variable value as per WPS during welding
job ( consumable, preheat temp, min and max inter-pass temp, purging gas
variables, voltage, ampere, etc) .
 Visual inspection of the completed welding joint, including
 Non-destructive test requirement, accept-reject values according to
governance specification.
 Post-weld heat treatment requirement and execution.
 Hydrostatic test requirement.

 Repair procedure.
• Coordinating work done by contractor including work permit, preparation for
DOSH (Malaysian Government Regulatory Body) inspection.
• Involve in turn-around, new Butadiene and Olefin Conversion Unit plant
construction, new sphere and atmospheric tanks construction. Job area
including:
a. 2 numbers of Naphtha Cracking plants
b. 1 number of Aromatic (BTX) plant
c. 2 numbers of Polypropylene plants
d. 3 numbers of Polyethylene plants
e. 1 number of Butadiene plant
f. 1 number of Olefin Conversion Unit plant
g. 3 numbers of tank farms ( Titan Terminals)
h. 4 numbers of Dangerous Cargo Jetty ( import-export jetty)
i. Transfer piping, tunnels, bridges etc.
• Computer literate, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, AutoCAD 2000,
RBMI program, MS PowerPoint.
• Member of Plant Safety, Health and Environment Committee and Plant First Aider.
• Clear understanding of safety policies and procedures (Job Safety Analysis –JSA,
General Risk Assessment-GRA, Permit to Work - PTW)
• Data records:
 Key in data into data storage software and RBMI.
 Familiar with RBMI software-UPV, tower, tube exchanger, piping, storage
tanks, fired heater and relieve devices. Follow RBMI inspection planning.
 Perform and update the inspection and testing records.
