Chapter 1 The problem and Its Background Indtroduction: Background of the study

This study deals to know the advantages and disadvantages of being a student in a cream section. All of us would like to know if there is something diffences between the cream/ pilot section to the other lower sections. Some of us interview the students in the III- Our Lady of the Holy Rosary which is known to be the cream/pilot section of St. Thomas Academy in 3rd year level. My groupmates asked them some questions that deals of being a student in a cream/pilot section. Some reason of this study is if they are happy and contented of being in a cream/pilot section or if they wanted to be like in the other section instead.

The use of class rank is currently in practice at about 46% of American high schools. Large public schools are more likely to rank their students than small private schools. Because many admissions officers were frustrated that many applications did not contain a rank, some colleges are using other information provided by high schools, in combination with a student's G.P.A. to estimate a student's class rank. Many colleges say that the absence of a class rank forces them to put more weight on standardized test scores. : Under the provisions of the uniform admission law, high schools have great latitude in determining how to calculate grade point averages for purposes of generating a rank distribution. That is, school administrators decide whether and how much to weight honors and advanced placement courses, and whether to include nonacademic subjects, such as physical education and vocational courses, in the GPA used to rank students. In order to determine whether an individual applicant qualifies for automatic admission under the top 10% law, high schools report the size of their senior class and exact class standing. Significance of the Problem: The importance of this study to all the students is to know the advantages and disadvantages of being a students in a cream/pilot section, so that they can be aware for the happenings. To all teachers, this study is important to them. Teachers will know how they teach all students whose in cream section right, and they will not expect to much from them. Because not all the students in the cream/pilot section knows how to compete with the other students in the way of brainstorming. For the researchers, this study will help us to know anything based on being a student in a cream/pilot section. For the future researchers, this study will help them to know the different topics that they conclude and how to analyze every problems. They can get some ideas/information about their topic from this research paper. For the parents of the students, this study is important because they will know all the happenings that their sons/daughters in cream/pilot section will encounter. This study is important to others, they will know the advantages and disadvantages of the student in a cream/pilot section that they may encounter in cased of emergency.

Statement of the Problem: This aims to know the advantages and disadvantages of being in a cream/pilot section. The purpose of this study is to know the different problems that theyve got. This are some of the problems that they encounter in a cream/pilot section, If you are in a cream/pilot section there are lots of expectation from you, and the other problem is, Some of the students in a cream/pilot section feels that he/she are so intelligent and he/she dont mind the other. The problem of some students in a cream/pilot section is, they are so selfish, they all wants to get in a honor list and they want to gain all the awards so that the other student wont gain anything. Specifically the paper sees to answer the following questions: 1) What is the demographic profile of the respondents in items of: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. 2) What are the disadvantages and advantages of being in a cream section? 3) Why do the researchers know the different advantages of being a cream section? 4) What are the problems of the students in the pilot section? 5) Who are the people involve to this study ? 6) What are the feelings of being in a cream section? 7) How do the researchers get information about this study?

Thus, we are assuring you that the information that you will give will be treated with full confidentiality. 1. Can learn more things in the class because of the experiences of your classmates. 2. The topics that are studying are very challenging. 3. Have a better chance of getting scholarships in college. 4. Much expectations from your parents and teachers. 5. Can have a high chance of having a rank in quarterly basis. 6. Being a student in a pilot section clearly defines you as a good student with a good heart and healthy mind thus, this would be much better for a social life. 7. Difficult assignments, seatworks, projects & activities. 8. A pilot sectioned students loads more work than others in a hetero section, simply because they expect more from you. 9. All students should be responsible in doing assignments, projects and activities. 10. Lessons are way more advance in cream section.

Scope of Limitation of the Study:

First of all, a noticeable limitation was related with of having cream section in the 3rd year. Data were collected only from the students of the III- Our Lady Of The Holy Rosary who were studying in St. Thomas Academy, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, year 2012-2013. This data were supported through interviews with the students, the findings of this study do not reflect what actually happens in the classroom because observations of the real classroom settings were not included.

The intention of this study is to know some factors of being in a cream/pilot section. Factors that can affect some students like problems that can affect to their mind. The people who is involved to this study are the students of 3rd year level in St. Thomas Academy. They were the cream/pilot section of the the 3rd year highschool. One of the procedure to know the advantages and disadvantages is asking/interviewing the students of the cream/pilot section in the 3rd Year.
