l State the function of parts of a computer syste m .

A computer is a machine that processes information and performs computations. The core design of a computers physical appearance is known as the base tower-box or case, Its holds the hardware parts that make up a computer e.g. CPU, hard disk drive, floppy drive, memory chips, power supply, interface cards.

HARDDRIVE: The harddrive is the main device that a computer uses to store information. Most computers come with a hard drive, often called drive C, this is located inside the computer case. The harddrive of a computer works like the brain in the human body as it organises the information held on the computer and loads up software which drives the functionality of the computers operating system as well as third party programs which can be installed on the computer. MOUSE: The little cursor symbol on your screen that you move with your mouse. You use the mouse pointer to point to and select items on your screen. The mouse pointer changes shape, depending on its location on your screen and the action you are performing. y

2 Outline the use of peripheral device s .

The uses of input devices or peripherals in using a computer are essentials these devices range from the keyboard USB flash disks. KEYBOARD: This input device allows users to choose letters, symbols and actions by pressing keys which gives the user the ability to navigate the computers software prompting commands.

(standard keyboard)

Wireless Router / HUB Modem: Network routers / Hubs are devices that have many ports into which ethernet network cables are plugged. A modem takes the signal from each computer and sends it to all of the other computers through the network. Hubs come in different sizes and colours and must be plugged in and turned on for the network to work and are usually signalled as working via green lights that may flash.

3 Indicate how hardware and software can be used to meet the . requirements of the design brief

In order to meet the requirement of the design brief we were told to use the software Adobe Photoshop which is image editing software used when creating images/artwork, logos or picture retouching on computers. The hardware of choice I will be using for Adobe Photoshop software is a standard keyboard and mouse; this software can be used with a graphic tablet as well as various other compatible peripherals. I will start by download photo of Oprah and Gale from the internet and then import photo a photo of myself in the main matrix of the Photoshop software. Once I have successful imported the base layer image I will then go on to create multiple image layers which editing and creating the desire look of my poster with all three of us together.

4 Use equipment .

correctly in line with relevant regu lation s

Health and Safety: Firstly, I checked that the computer was set up and connected equipment in accordance with the instructions provided by the supplier or manufacturer. It is always important to be sure that the computer is switched off and disconnected from the mains electrical supply when you connect or disconnect any of the electrical leads. Understanding the law - make sure someone in your organisation has a health and safety brief covering all areas, not just computers. Being aware of the health risks - the government officially recognises some of the risks although there are some grey areas you'll need to make up your own mind about. Assessing the risks - using procedures set out in the law - be systematic and get help if you need it. Get a health and safety audit done by a competent organisation if necessary. Taking steps to minimise the risks - this may only involve taking simple measures. Training all users to recognise the risks - if people aren't aware of the dangers they can't take adequate precautions to protect their health. Taking users views seriously - if users feel there is something wrong there often is . Check equipment for safety before use All equipment sold in the west must comply with vigorous safety requirements. Guidelines for safe usage are supplied in the form of printed manuals. Incorrect use of computer hardware may damage it Incorrect use of computer equipment may result in installed software becoming corrupted Incorrect use of computer equipment may result injury to user.

SPEAKERS: Speakers are an output device peripheral that produces sound and music when connected to the computer. Speakers come in different shapes and may even be built within the monitor's case or connected with cables. Speakers allow you to listen to music and hear sound effects from your computer. MICROPHONE: Input device in which sound energy is changed into electrical energy for the sending or recording sound usually voice. A computer uses signals to convert acoustic sensors sound into electrical signals. HEADPHONES: Output device for listening that is held over the ears by a band worn on the head must like speaker but headphone a near field listening devices placed over the head and covering the ears. Headphones usually have wires for connection to a signal source such as an audio these wire are connected to the computer audio sound card which covert the audio signal in sound frequencies.
