MOTTO: UNITY IS STRENGHT, PROSPERITY, PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

Reg. No: 000636/RDA/J06/BAPP of 15/06/2006; Reg. Rep. No: 422/MINJEUN/SG/DVAL/SDVA of 25/05/2007

Cameroon’s national unity was achieved on the 11th of February 1961 during thee plebiscite conducted by the
United Nations on the Western Part of the Country which was placed under British Trusteeship Mandate.

The most unfortunate thing is that this took place only on one part of the country so the French speaking part of
the country did not participate in the exercise. The francophone did not vote for this event that gave birth to
national unity and today mistake national unity to socio -cultural integration (union of tribes through marriages
and peaceful cohabitation). They cannot say for certain why f people get marred from diverse tribe t should be
celebrated or commemorated on the 20th of May each year or what the youths did on the 11th of February so that
t s commemorated and celebrated each year. This has led to an unfortunate ignorant and to a lesser extend
misconstrued assertion by the majority French speaking population of the united Cameroon of the meaning of
Cameroon’s national unity. This situation has given rise to a feeling of pride of belonging by the dominant and
majority francophone population and prejudice by the oppressed minority Anglophone population.

While it is obvious that we need to promote a cultural policy based on social integration and a youth
empowerment policy which should have a day of its own t s equally important to celebrate our true historical
dates and reinforce our allegiance to our common fatherland by reiterating the fundamental values of our
national unity.

it should be noted that n 1957 the northern part of southern Cameroons too part in its plebiscite and reject union
with Nigeria but was illegally forced to participate in the plebiscite of 11th February 1961 with the wife of the
British Governor general of the eastern region of Nigeria as the UN representative and Nigerians as pooling
officers. The result was that there was electoral fraud and all the votes of these Cameroonians were counted as
votes for union with the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Today this situation can be redressed with the increasing wave of democracy and justice. But to reach there
Cameroon must first put its house n order by promoting the fundamental values of national unity recognizing
the historical dates that make Cameroon special and respect them as proper holidays not misrepresented holiday
and celebrations as is done today. This will go a long way in appeasing many quarters; educating the others;
leaving a credible legacy for the role we are playing in the process of nation building and; consolidating our
national unity. We need to be alive with the truth and dead with the les so that the devil should not find any
cause doing witch hunting in our territory. Unfortunately many well placed Cameroonians are well informed of
this but do not just want to give the dilemma a descent burial. They prefer the chaos to prevail because they are
benefiting from the crumbs at the expense of peace loving patriotic and honest citizens of this country.

The democratic choices we were given in 1957 and 1961 were free and fair even if they challenged the initial
arrangements of the UN with the mandatory powers over the territory. The territory did not object nor petition
their right or obligation to participate in the plebiscite so we cannot go on blaming the UN or Britain for causes
that should be justifiably shared by all. Let us look forward in our united process and keep consolidating it for
the sake of a balance development and power sharing and we shall never regret we voted for union with La
Republique du Cameroun; after all we have more n common than we could have ever wished for with Nigeria.
This Union makes our great Cameroon not only bilingual but on the threshold of Central and West Africa and
there fore belonging to both and so the most strategic capital of the new united states of Africa as advocated by
the African renaissance Ambassadors corporation www.aracorporation.org.

To consolidate Cameroon’s national unity and foster a state of peace; development and national consciousness;
Cameroonians must:
- Renew their commitment for the fundamental values of national unity
- Respect the role and spirit of the law
- Embark on an honest power sharing taking in to consideration that the former Northern Cameroons
considered are not be the present day 3 Northern Regions but the Northern regions of the Former British
Trust Territory of the Cameroons which has to be recovered from Nigeria through the International
Court of Justice.
- Promote the use of the French and English languages by all official processes and at every instance of
public life with equal consideration.
- Promote social and national integration in all its forms and domains
- Promote a greater spirit of patriotism and the respect of Cameroon’s national emblems
- Respect all the historical dates that this country whether partially or jointly gone through e.g. 1st January
1960; 11th February 1961; etc
- Overhaul our judiciary which no longer uses the spirit of the Laws but their personal whims and caprices
in the administration of justice.
- Ensure there is a true union of hearts and minds without the careless fears of sessions as threatened by
people without right or faith.

Truth can be bombed with the heaviest bomb blast but it can never die. People fear it but if it is clothed with
the beautiful garments of parables even the devil will embrace it and when it is unveiled they will be caught
by God embracing naked truth and even he the devil will be then saved. there bomb is no problem without a
solution so far as there is a will there must be a way. There is a general fear by most of us young
Anglophones that if we Cameroonians do not all understand and agree on working on the true facts then our
feature in our country will always be in jeopardy except by chance that it will be otherwise. We shall keep
on living a scornful and resentful life and one never knows for how long such a potential conflict situation
might prevail.
