Principals Column
Yesterday, we had a busy morning reviewing our emergency drills. Our students did a wonderful job of following instructions for our fire, tornado, earthquake and intruder drills. Students were informed prior to each drill what to expect. No role playing occurred during any of our drills, only practice of procedures. January has come and gone very quickly. As we say goodbye to January, we look forward to a very busy February. For a short month we have managed to squeeze in a lot of fun and exciting activities and events. You dont want to miss anything so be sure to watch Paw Print and our webpage for all of the upcoming activities. If havent visited the school lately, you might have missed the Winter Wonderland being set up in Rainbow Island. Our PTO has been hard at work planning a wonderful Winterfest for February 22nd. Our students have taken an active role in helping to decorate the winter scene. The art classes have been making snowflakes to decorate the trees. It may feel like spring outside, but we are still celebrating winter indoors. You should receive a flyer today detailing all of the fun activities for that night. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for an evening of fun.

Nurses Notes February is National Heart Month

Do you know how to keep your heart strong? The heart is a muscle and should be exercised to help keep it healthy and strong. To keep your heart healthy and strong you should be physically active for 30 minutes or more a day. A normal heart beats between 50 and 99 times per minute when you are resting. This heart rate gives a good indication of cardiovascular fitness. As you get in better shape your resting heart rate will go down because your heart is healthier. Regular physical activity not only strengthens your heart it also helps control your weight. Being overweight increases the risk of heart disease, raises blood cholesterol, and elevates blood pressure and risk of diabetes. It doesnt matter how you move, as long as youre physically active. Move until you breathe hard or break a sweat and you will be doing great things for your body and physical health. Being physically active improves your sleep and gives you a better attitude and extra energy boost during the day. Fueling your brain with physical activity before starting your homework can help improve your concentration and focus. Grab a friend and work out together, take a walk, jump rope, swim, play a team sport. Make stretching a part of pre and post workout sessions. It helps improve your balance which enhances coordination and athletic performance. By choosing to be healthy and making healthy choices you will feel better. So start making healthy choices today and be physically active. Visit the American Heart Association for more information and activities for kids http://www.heart.org
