World Flooring & Carpets

ABOUT THIS REPORT

Scope and Method

This report forecasts total world demand in 2016 for manufactured flooring and carpet
by product and major world region in square meters. Product segments include:

nonresilient flooring (eg, ceramic tile, laminate, and wood)

resilient flooring (eg, vinyl, linoleum, and rubber)
carpets and rugs.

Subflooring and unfinished floor surfaces (for example, plywood and poured concrete)
are excluded from the scope of this report, as is artificial grass used on outdoor athletic
surfaces such as football fields. Finishes applied to floor surfaces mainly for cosmetic
reasons (for instance, paint or stain), and unimproved surfaces such as packed earth
are also excluded.
Major world regions include:

North America
Western Europe
Asia/Pacific
other regions (namely, Central and South America, Eastern Europe,
and Africa/Mideast combined).

To illustrate historical trends world, product, and regional demand are provided for 2006
and 2011. World and regional demand are further segmented by the following markets
for 2011:

residential buildings
nonresidential buildings
transportation equipment and other markets.

Finally, world production is segmented by major world region and provided for 2006,
2011, and 2016.
Forecasts emanate from the identification and analysis of pertinent statistical
relationships and other historical trends/events as well as their expected
progression/impact over the forecast period. Changes in quantities between reported
years of a given total or segment are typically provided in terms of five-year compound
annual growth rates (CAGRs). For the sake of brevity, forecasts are generally stated in
smoothed CAGR-based descriptions to the forecast year, such as demand is projected
to rise 3.2% annually through 2016. The result of any particular year over that period,
however, may exhibit volatility and depart from a smoothed, long-term trend, as
historical data typically illustrate.
