Grading Scale:

Attendance: Students are required to attend every class meeting. Class absence makes mastering the course material very difficult. Attendance means that you are participating by doing any prescribed inclass and outofclass assignments; therefore, not doing work is the same as not attending. In the event of a serious illness or a death in the immediate family, please contact the instructor to discuss the consequences of the absence. Make-Up Work: 1. No make-up assignments will be available. 2. Make-up mid-term or final gift can only be taken with approval and cannot be taken earlier than scheduled. 3. Homework is due at the time posted in Mastering Engineering. However, reduced credit will be awarded for late submissions, up until the last day of the semester.

Professional Conduct - Course Specific Academic Honesty Policy: Students are expected to act in a professional manner in their conduct in this course. Virginia Western has an Honor Code that will be enforced in all class work. Failure to act in a professional manner will have serious consequences.

Inclement Weather Policy: If VWCC is on a Delayed Opening schedule, class WILL be held from: 2:30 pm 3:10 pm Student Responsibilities: 1. Please review the Student Handbook. 2. It is your responsibility to comply with the full Honor Code and Conduct requirements which are described in the Student Handbook. An Honor Code summary is posted on the marker board in each classroom. 3. The materials in this course are only for the use of students enrolled in the course for purposes associated with the course and may not be retained or further disseminated. 4. A student will receive an Incomplete only under mitigating circumstances. It is the students responsibility to complete the coursework within the timeframe agreed upon between the instructor and the student (not longer than the end of the subsequent semester), and an Incomplete Grade Contract Form must be completed and signed by both the instructor and the student and turned in to the school office before leaving campus. Incompletes will not be given by the registrar if the Incomplete Grade Contract Form is not submitted. Neither the instructor nor the school office has a responsibility to remind or persuade a student to complete the work by the deadline. An Incomplete will only be given if the student has completed 50% of the course assignments/tests and has a passing grade to date. 5. Any student enrolled in a program of study containing 16 credit hours or more may be eligible for financial aid if the student qualifies. The Financial Aid Department is located in Chapman Hall. Computer Labs: Open Computer Lab Room M302, Business Science Building Hours: Monday Thursday, 8 a.m. 8 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m. 4 p.m. Additional hours for EGR students in Webber Hall labs will be posted later in the semester.

Campus Safety: To report an emergency, call 911 or campus police at 8577979. These numbers are posted on the marker boards in each classroom. 1. Sign up for the VW Alert text messaging system which can instantly send messages to your cell phone, pager, PDA, blackberry and email accounts. This system is a free service for all of our students. 2. Please review the Campus Safety Video. 3. For cancellations and Delayed Openings due to inclement weather refer to the Colleges home page at or go directly to the following link: http://www.virginiawestern.edu/inclementweather/ 4. Sources of VW emergency information: VW TV, IP Classroom Phone Announcements, VW Alert messaging, VW Web site, mass emails, exterior siren alert, exterior emergency phones, campus police, and faculty. Some of these communication methods require your prior sign up, initiation of communication or monitoring to be effective. 5. The college has a Crisis Management Plan. Some terms to become familiar with are: Evacuation building fire alarms and emergency alerts may sound; turn off lights and electrical devices if able; close office or classroom doors; exit building according to posted routes; follow directions of building coordinator or teacher; do not use elevators; no one should leave the assembly area or the campus until all clear given. Lockdown outdoor alarm will sound and alerts over the IP phones; lock the door; cover any windows or openings in the door; barricade the doorway; turn off lights, audio equipment, cell phone ringers and speaker; allow no one to enter or leave the room; do not evacuate the building if the fire alarm is sounded; and remain in place until notified by police of all clear. Shelterinplace emergency alerts over the IP phones will sound as well as notice on the TVs; usually weather related; move to posted shelterinplace areas within your building; refrain from using the elevator so that its use may be restricted to those with disabilities; turn off lights, electrical devices if able; and wait for all clear.

One Great Hour Continuous Alert Referral System: Virginia Western would like for all students to be successful in their classes and as a result has implemented an early alert warning system called the One Great Hour Continuous Alert Referral System. If you have low test grades, sporadic or poor attendance, or other concerns which may affect your ability to be successful in class, you may be referred to Retention Services for assistance. You will then be contacted to see what assistance may be provided to help you successfully complete the course. Disabilities Act: The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), The ADA as amended in 2008, and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1976) provide protection from discrimination for qualified individuals with disabilities. It is the policy of Virginia Western Community College to make reasonable accommodations for qualified students with documented disabilities. These disabilities include but are not limited to physical, psychiatric, or learning disabilities. In accordance with federal law, a student requesting accommodations must provide acceptable documentation of his/her disability to a counselor in Student Support Services (SSS) located in the Student Center suite 102. You may call SSS for an appointment at 8577286. It is suggested that students needing accommodations make arrangements early in the semester.
