Welcome to the Winter 2012/2013 newsletter and all of us here at Headway Dorset hope you had a brilliant Christmas! We are busy as ever, with new groups being planned, upcoming events and our social enterprise Headway Care. If you havent had a chance, please check out our Facebook and Twitter pages, have a look at our website and subscribe to our mailing list, we want to make sure that we make sure everyone hears about what we have got going on and gives us feedback on how we are doing!

We raised over 300 with our Christmas raffle, watch this space as we will be back in store at Easter!! Bournemouth and Poole College presents Headway Dorset Charity Gig!!
Annas daughter Bea is holding a fundraising gig with her band and other bands from Bournemouth and Poole College on Wednesday 13th February. The gig will be held at the Winchester Pub, 39 Poole Hill, Bournemouth BH2 5PW from 6.30pm 9.30pm and tickets are a bargain at 2 each in advance or 3 on the door. Mirror Image Womens Group Following a successful first year, we are pleased to be awarded funding for a further 18 months from Lloyds TSB. Headway users from all over Dorset have had fun taking part in sessions to improve their self esteem, confidence and body image and we are looking forward to bringing the project to other service users this year! If you want more information or to put yourself down to be involved, contact Maria or Kerry at Headway on 01202 606560.
Musical Therapy Group We are very excited to have also received funding for a Musical Therapy Group this year. The Radcliffe Trust has approved us funding for the group, which will be overseen by our Occupational Therapist Claire. The group hopes to help people with enhancing memory capabilities, alleviating depression and frustration, self expression, communication skills and self esteem to name a few! Carers Corner!
Free Training Course offer to all Carers.
St Johns Ambulance Carers Support Programme will teach first aid techniques to adults who look after friends, relatives and neighbours. You can learn how to deal with bleeding, burns, choking, fractures, hypothermia and how to put an unconscious person in the recovery position. The course is weekly over four 3 hour sessions, running in Sturminster Newton, Ferndown, Purbeck and Christchurch, email kerry.course@sja.org.uk or ring 01305 751160 for more information or to book a place.

2012 in pictures!!

Befriending Scheme
We would like to thank wholeheartedly all of our volunteers who help with the Befriending Scheme. They really do a brilliant job and we couldnt do it without them! Here are a few pictures of some of their antics!

We currently have plenty of opportunities for anyone who wants to volunteer some of their spare time. Volunteering can be a rewarding experience, a useful addition to your CV and helps Headway Dorset to keep running the high level of services that our service users deserve.
