ENRICO ARIEL TING - LSEF Batch 87 Chairman of the Board of Trustees

AILEEN ASHLEE REYES - Grade 5

On September 1, 2012, the Sangguniang Kabataang LSEF (SKL) together with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Enrico Ariel Ting, their advisers, and parents conducted a relief goods distribution operation to 3 evacuation centers the elementary schools of Palasan, San Juan, and Oogong with the objective of providing aid to evacuees from neighborhoods devastated by the monsoon rains (habagat). The La Nia habagat phenomenon caused continuous rain from July 30-31, 2012, and because of the severe flooding and widespread damage of property, classes up to high school level in Laguna and nearby provinces were suspended for several weeks. Basic goods like rice, noodles, cereals, canned goods, juice, and water were given to more than 120 families. The SKL sang Lift My Eyes Up To The Hills as a way of encouraging the evacuees to trust in the Almighty God, our source of help.

As part of the on-continuing era of revival and renewal for LSEF, school year 2012-2013 opens with our school building donning a newly painted and colorful facade; and our students donning the new smart and snappy uniform. The Book of Ecclesiastes tells of Gods perfect timing for everything when He designed and set forth a season for every purpose under heaven. There was the time for our founding in 1946. And through 66 years, times of drought and plenty, times of challenges and deliverance, times of reforms, and now, the time of re-emergence. LSEF continues to reinvent itself in its commitment to provide quality and relevant training to the next generation, tsinoy and pinoy youth of our community. Come join and help us lift high the banners of Life, Service, Excellence and Fortitude, for the good of men and glory of God! The Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FCCCII) has likewise sponsored a relief operation held 10 days later on September 11, in our very own school basketball court. SKL officers and teachers helped distribute relief goods to 2,000 families.

EDITORIAL

MY LSEF EDUCATION
What does a good education mean? Does it mean reading a lot of books and studying? When I started my kinder years at LSEF, I was unaware of many things around me. I was carefree and did anything that I wanted. But as I grew up, I began to learn things that made me who I am today. love Filipino, our mother tongue. We have come to love both Philippine and Chinese dances, too. LSEF taught us to care for our environment. This we practice through tree-planting activities, and clean & green projects that make our surrounding beautiful. LSEF also taught us to care for our fellowmen. They showed us that we should help people who are in need. We took part in outreach programs, visited flood evacuees during relief operations, and donated clothes, toys, food and water . I believe that being a Kabataang LSEF helped me become a complete person a God-fearing, intelligent, and responsible individual who loves her country, family and friends, and is able to care for the environment. The Kabataang LSEF is Masigla, Mahusay, Mabuti!

I believe that being a Kabataang LSEF helped me become a complete person.

Every morning, we start our day with a prayer. LSEF taught us to love and fear God. We sing our National Anthem with pride and learned to respect the Philippine flag. We were taught to love and value our families and friends. LSEF also developed my love for learning. She taught me to read books and stories. Our teachers taught us that learning is not just memorizing information but also understanding what it meant. We were taught to speak Chinese and to

The Tree Planting Experience

JASIEL NERI UY - Grade 5

On July 27, 2012, we hopped into a multicab and went to plant trees in Brgy. Santissima Cruz, accompanied by our advisers and parents. We need to plant trees to help the environment soak up water when theres flood. It was a good thing we brought umbrellas because it rained that afternoon. We shared umbrellas and continued with the tree planting inspite of the rain. I hope that someday, all LSEF students will be able to participate and experience tree planting.

Food for Thoughts

Unforgettable Day

THE FIRE AND EARTHQUAKE DRILL was conducted on July 23, 2012 to equip the students, teachers and all school employees on how to protect themselves in case of fire and earthquake. The orientation was headed by FO1 Janeth Delos Santos. She reminded us that during this situation everyone must be prepared.
AILEEN ASHLEE REYES - Grade 5

The first time Ive experienced giving out relief goods to evacuees, I felt happy because I saw many people smiling and glad for the help we brought them. It was tiring but fun. After that, Chairman Enrico Ariel Ting toured us around his farm in San Jose, Laguna. He told us about the different kinds of plants and trees he has in his farm. Its like we went on a field trip that day! Giving relief is fun because we get to help people, too. I should like to do it again.

For emergencies, everyone must prepare the following: Flashlight with extra batteries Completely stocked first aid kit with manual Canned foods (with nonelectric opener) Bottled water Money In the event of an earthquake, you must Drop down to the floor Cover yourself under a tough table or desk Stay put until the shaking has stopped

AARON XAVIER JAVIER - Grade 5

The fire officer told us what to do in an emergency. He said if we ever catch fire, we should stop, drop, and roll to extinguish the fire. If there is smoke, we should get a towel, soak it in water and use it to cover our mouth. We were taught how the bell would ring when there is an earthquake or fire. That would be the time to do what weve practiced. I felt really scared when they rang the bell.

ANDREI MARIE CHINGTOCO GRADE 4

Teachers and students learned a lot from reallife firefighters. They taught us how to use fire extinguishers on a real fire. They also discussed important things we can use during emergencies, and how to be safe when an earthquake occurs. Weve learned a lot of new things. The firemen were very nice, and they taught us everything we need to know about stopping fire. We had a lot of fun learning. We know that what we have learned can be really useful someday. It is best to learn about these survival skills from the experts.

Oh My Gulay, For A Healthy Buhay!

AILEEN ASHLEE REYES- Grade 5

To celebrate Nutrition Month, many activities were prepared for the parents and students on July 6, 2012. Slogan and PosterMaking Contest entries were exhibited interpreting the theme Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw-araw itong Ihain. A cookfest for both junior and senior divisions were held simultaneously that morning. The junior group was tasked to create fruit salad, while the senior group created a variety of vegetable dishes.
For this occasion, Dra. Mary Ann Enteria, a pediatrician, was invited to conduct a clinical assessment of our students. She gave an inspirational message first, and talked about how to care for our bodies properly. She said that eating nutritious foods like vegetables, and regular check-ups with the doctor are ways to maintain good health. She examined the eyes, tongue, height and weight of every student. She also gave some advice to parents about which vitamins to give their kids. She explained all the things that parents need to know to keep their children healthy. To raise funds and promote healthy foods, the Sangguniang Kabataang LSEF (SKL) had a food fair and sold delicious but healthy treats, gave away button pins, did some henna tattoo, and made their customers happy. Two booths were created Sweet Success and Fruity Haws to engage in promoting healthy competition and boost sales. The school also invited Chef Jay Obsequio of Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Makati, to demonstrate his cooking skills. The parents and students enjoyed sampling the delicious dishes and fruit shakes that he made.
Looking on with awe as Chef Jay prepares chopsuey and fish fillet

Learning from a master chef

AARON XAVIER JAVIER - Grade 5

Chef Jay gave us many tips about cooking. He demonstrated how to cook sandwich, pancit, chicken fillet, lumpia, torta, and club house sandwich. He showed us how to properly slice vegetables and make the dishes look presentable. He also told us that when you dine in a hotel, they will tell you the length of time it will take to cook something, and if you have any complaints, they will give you a discounted bill. It was a truly delicious experience for all.

Our version of Junior Masterchef! Here the Senior Division competitors cook up their own veggie dishes.

Its not only a cooking demo; its also a feast for all! Everybody say LSEF!

VIVEANNE MAE ONG - Grade 6

Last October 19, 2012, we had our educational field trip. First we went to Hope Christian High School in Manila (HCHS). Principal Angeline Tan and Vice Principal Grace Tan welcomed us and showed us a short video presentation about their school and its history. We learned about how it started and that HCHS was first named Chia Nan. We went to see their library, chemistry lab, science lab, art room, school gym, music room, and other classrooms. We were given five minutes to sit in and watch the students in their classes. Afterwards we were brought to the cafeteria and given coupons for free food! We went to another building where the preschool is having a program, and saw their classrooms, playrooms, and auditorium. We performed Kung Fu Fighting and Wo Ai Wo De Jia before the kinder crowd. After HCHS, we rushed to the Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City. We listened as Aedi the robot gave us rules inside the museum. After that we had our free time to explore everything inside. We took lots of pictures. We watched a film about the Solar System inside the planetarium, and next went to a watch a 3D movie. After exploring indoors, we went outdoors to the Science In The Park where we enjoyed the slides, seesaw, bubbles, drums, and many more. In the bus our teacher discussed the many statues and sculptures that can be found within BGC. Theres Presence, Pasasalamat, and Hearsay, etc. We got off Bonifacio High Street and took pictures with some artworks. For dinner and pasalubong shopping we went to Market!Market! and enjoyed the rest of the evening before we finally headed for home.

The Mind Museum is so big. We took pictures of so many beautiful things in there. I saw a big dinosaur skeleton. It looks real! I also saw a whale shark (butanding)! Kean Simon Haw

It is my dream to be like David Beckham, my favorite soccer player, so I was so excited when I heard the news that there will be soccer training at the San Luis Sports Complex on September 16 , 2012. That day, I myself prepared all the things needed for my training T-shirts, pants, towels, food, and lots of water. It was five in the morning when I awoke, even before my alarm clock rang! I had breakfast and milk. I took a bath and got dressed, all set for my whole-day training. When I arrived at the meeting place, I felt nervous but excited. I wondered, what new things will I learn about the sport today? When I saw Sir Gerry, Aaron, and Kean, I felt at ease knowing that I am with my teacher and friends. When we went inside the gym, I saw many participants from different places and schools in Laguna. I was impressed to see that many boys love to play soccer. Once inside the gym, the coaches quickly divided us into three divisions by age bracket. After dividing us, the Azkals players appeared! I was so excited to meet them and even had

I was with my schoolmates Aaron and Kean having a kick at the football clinic!

pictures taken with them. I listened to their speeches and techniques on how to become the best soccer player. After lunch break, the coaches gave instructions about what to do on the playing ground. Group by group, we went out and started to train and play soccer. Even Mr. Sun was present at the game but I simply ignored his glaring rays and enjoyed playing soccer. It was so hot so our teacher and coaches gave us water to drink. I drank all the water that I brought and

asked for more as the game continued. After training, I changed clothes and towels and asked for more water. It was a successful training day. We took pictures and assembled to form the figure 1 of Laguna is No. 1 slogan. Going outdoors and making new friends were the best things about the whole experience! I am truly thankful.

Prior to this Ethan has also won in two more swimming events. From the Milo Perpetual Swim Meet held last May 26, 2012 he bagged two bronze, three silver and one gold, from the 4th League Friendship and Fun Time Trials he bagged a bronze medal for boys 8 and under division 50 LC Meter Breast Stroke. Congratulations to Ethan and Coach Sonny Balita!

A HERO TO EMULATE
MARI LEENOR ONG - Grade 4
I idolize Dr. Jose Rizal because he was brave and he fought for our freedom. He was intelligent. At an early age, he already wrote poems. He was a doctor, writer, sculptor, and painter. He can also speak different languages. I admire him because of his courage in fighting for our freedom against the Spaniards. And because of his courage he became our National Hero. Like him, I want to become a doctor someday.

THE BEST PARENTS IN THE WORLD

JASIEL NERI UY - Grade 5

My loving and caring parents are the people I admire most in this world. They always work hard so that we can enjoy good food and study in a private school. They are willing to do everything to make me smile. Even up to now they help me with my projects and assignments. They teach us what is right and wrong and are always supportive. They attend all of our programs and events in school like graduations, field trips, linggo ng wika, Nutrition Month, Teachers Day, and Chinese New Year. They are the kind of parents that I would like to become someday.

OUR LSEF MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL celebration was done quite differently this year. Instead of having our program at the school auditorium, we presented it at the municipal covered court! On September 27, 2012, lighted lanterns in tow, the Kabataang LSEF marched towards the municipal hall and brightened the silent market and street stalls with drum and lyre music. We were warmly welcomed by Sta. Cruz Mayor Dennis Panganiban and Vice Mayor Louie De Leon. As the Chairman of the BOT Enrico Ariel Ting delivered his inspirational message, we are reminded about the true significance of this festivity. The Mid-Autumn Festival is more than about watching the full moon, making lanterns, or playing dice games. More importantly, its about being together as a family, and loving back the family that God himself gave us. We presented our musical numbers to the entertainment of the audience. The Drum and Lyre Band performed Once Upon A Time In China, after which the joint mandarin class sang a touching chinese song Let Love Dwell In Our Homes. A big dance number was rendered by the grade school
12

students together with all the teachers, demonstrating their well-coordinated wushu kicks and Ha! to the music of Kung Fu Fighting. But what really brought the house down was the performance of the Kinder Academy kids who simply outshone everyone else with their own version of the kung fu dance. Who could resist their cuteness and charm! A sky lantern was lighted and released as the finale of the program. It was the first time for many to see an actual sky lantern. Although

it didnt fly high enough due to a technical problem, we were glad to have brought smiles and brightness to the office of the mayor. We promptly headed back to school to play the widely anticipated dice game. What a fun way to end the night!
