EASTSIDE YOUTH RUGBY CLUB

EASTSIDE LIONS YOUTH RUGBY

SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE

ABOUT
The Eastside Lions Youth Rugby Club is a 501 (C) 3 non-profit organization that was established in the spring of 2007. The program serves over 150 young men and women from the Greater Eastside, ranging as far east as North Bend and as far north as Bothell. We exist to improve the lives of young athletes on the Eastside, while motivating them to obtain a college education. Rugby is our vehicle to cultivate character, confidence and success. LIONS RUGBY compliments the Eastside's trend of the extremely high academic and sporting success as we demand continuous improvement of personal and academic performance to participate in the program. We channel youthful energy and enthusiasm in a positive direction by influencing our team members with the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, loyalty and teamwork through the sport of rugby. Participation in LIONS RUGBY has proven to enrich players lives through demanding higher grades in school in order to play; giving participants access to college and receiving college scholarships; giving players a strong foundation of team and mentors they can count on; and most importantly, increasing inner self-worth and selfconfidence.

ORGANIZATION
Rugby Based Youth Development
LIONS RUGBY runs u19, u17, u15, u13, u11 and u9 sides for boys, a combined u19/ u17 side for girls and a non-contact minis program for kids 4-8. Our players play both 15s the common form of rugby and 7s, which will be included in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Rugby is arguably the greatest sport to teach camaraderie, sportsmanship, and a relentless respect for your team, your opposition, officials, and fans. The vast majority of those who play rugby find a passion that they cannot ignore and a brotherhood that serves them for life. The Rugby culture facilitates and demands all participants to act within the guidelines of this culture. Living and playing in this culture influences one's actions on and off the field and strengthens the character of its participants. Our strict requirements and no non-sense coaching engrains the importance of sportsmanship, academic success is more important than playing rugby, respect and consideration of others, hard work pays off, picking up their teammates instead of putting them down allows success, as well as giving back to others through community service. Our participants are crystal clear that this is not just another team or another sport. It is a program with the clear intent to improve their character and their chances of success in life.

Opportunities Provided to our Participants

We provide our participants with an extended family, a sense of belonging, mentorship to succeed in life on and off of the field, and numerous opportunities that they would likely never have otherwise. Many of our participants have been sponsored, by our program, to attend rugby camps. In part, due to these experiences and opportunities, players were recognized and sent to play in Idaho, Utah, Montana and Las Vegas as a part of high school select sides. In addition, many players have competed around the US as a part of their collegiate rugby teams. US Eagles (our National Rugby Team) and former NFL players attend our practices to speak to our participants about their experiences and the hunger to succeed on and off the field that it takes to play at the next level. Sharing their experiences of traveling the world inspires our players to chase their dreams.

ORGANIZATION
We are committed to developing winners on the field and in the classroom. It is only a matter of time before our players begin earning spots on the USA Eagles Mens and Womens teams, USA Olympic teams and with professional clubs across the world.

Obtaining a College Education

Rugby is played at over 1,000 colleges across America and LIONS RUGBY serves as a promoter of higher education and we connect our players with collegiate coaches and scouts from across the nation. Many of our players currently benefit financially from their college based on their participation in the sport of rugby. As the sport of rugby grows, so to does the amount of scholarships and tuition waivers available to players. LIONS RUGBY currently have 18 Lion alumni playing collegiate rugby. Former Eastside Lions are attending colleges such as University of Washington, Dartmouth, Washington State University, Western Washington University, Whitman, Santa Clara, University of Montana, Montana State University, Central Michigan University, North Seattle Community College and Bellevue College.

The Immediate Future

LIONS RUGBY is working to raise the funds needed to continue our program. We have just finalized a leasing agreement with Lake Sammamish State Park to develop field space for practices (phase 1) and games (phase 2) for all participants of LIONS RUGBY. This will give our program a home and eventually all of those who visit the park and drive along I90 will see the home of the Lions. Rugby is truly a world game and this spring, LIONS RUGBY is setting about on its inaugural tour to Ireland. This 10 day tour is one of cultural, educational and sporting experience and will include three matches, attendance of a professional rugby match, sight-seeing to local castles and historical sites, trainings with some of the worlds top players and coaches. To make this tour available to all players, LIONS RUGBY is leading numerous fundraising activities to raise enough funds to support families in need.

ORGANIZATION
All of our coaches give time as volunteers. Our expenses include the purchase of practice and game equipment, providing an athletic trainer to all players at all games and practices, providing mandatory concussion screenings and management, videography, uniforms (jersey, shorts and socks, Although all faculty is currently providing our services on a volunteer basis, we are seeking funds to establish a tutoring program as well as hire a College Coordinator who will contact colleges and their rugby programs in an effort to further support our participants in their quest for a collegiate academic scholarship as well as playing rugby at the next level. We currently act as a constant motivator to our participants and we want to become the strongest influence in their choice to obtain a college education. When this occurs, we can guarantee a higher percentage of Eastside youth moving forward and attending college.
