ABOUT
The Eastside Lions Youth Rugby Club is a 501 (C) 3 non-profit organization that was established in the spring of 2007. The program serves over 150 young men and women from the Greater Eastside, ranging as far east as North Bend and as far north as Bothell. We exist to improve the lives of young athletes on the Eastside, while motivating them to obtain a college education. Rugby is our vehicle to cultivate character, confidence and success. LIONS RUGBY compliments the Eastside's trend of the extremely high academic and sporting success as we demand continuous improvement of personal and academic performance to participate in the program. We channel youthful energy and enthusiasm in a positive direction by influencing our team members with the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, loyalty and teamwork through the sport of rugby. Participation in LIONS RUGBY has proven to enrich players lives through demanding higher grades in school in order to play; giving participants access to college and receiving college scholarships; giving players a strong foundation of team and mentors they can count on; and most importantly, increasing inner self-worth and selfconfidence.
ORGANIZATION
Rugby Based Youth Development
LIONS RUGBY runs u19, u17, u15, u13, u11 and u9 sides for boys, a combined u19/ u17 side for girls and a non-contact minis program for kids 4-8. Our players play both 15s the common form of rugby and 7s, which will be included in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Rugby is arguably the greatest sport to teach camaraderie, sportsmanship, and a relentless respect for your team, your opposition, officials, and fans. The vast majority of those who play rugby find a passion that they cannot ignore and a brotherhood that serves them for life. The Rugby culture facilitates and demands all participants to act within the guidelines of this culture. Living and playing in this culture influences one's actions on and off the field and strengthens the character of its participants. Our strict requirements and no non-sense coaching engrains the importance of sportsmanship, academic success is more important than playing rugby, respect and consideration of others, hard work pays off, picking up their teammates instead of putting them down allows success, as well as giving back to others through community service. Our participants are crystal clear that this is not just another team or another sport. It is a program with the clear intent to improve their character and their chances of success in life.
ORGANIZATION
We are committed to developing winners on the field and in the classroom. It is only a matter of time before our players begin earning spots on the USA Eagles Mens and Womens teams, USA Olympic teams and with professional clubs across the world.
ORGANIZATION
All of our coaches give time as volunteers. Our expenses include the purchase of practice and game equipment, providing an athletic trainer to all players at all games and practices, providing mandatory concussion screenings and management, videography, uniforms (jersey, shorts and socks, Although all faculty is currently providing our services on a volunteer basis, we are seeking funds to establish a tutoring program as well as hire a College Coordinator who will contact colleges and their rugby programs in an effort to further support our participants in their quest for a collegiate academic scholarship as well as playing rugby at the next level. We currently act as a constant motivator to our participants and we want to become the strongest influence in their choice to obtain a college education. When this occurs, we can guarantee a higher percentage of Eastside youth moving forward and attending college.
