The Right Choice

Rohit Vaman Nayak Class of 2013, IBS Ahmedabad
Choosing the right Management College is always considered to be the most critical and daunting task while taking the first step towards management education. I was not spared of this rigmarole either. After evaluating all the aspects of various colleges, I zeroed in on IBS Ahmedabad. Life at IBS-A has been very exciting and enriching from day one. On the very first day, we were introduced to the values and mission of the institute of being ethically grounded managers, which is practiced in letter and spirit. The campus has its own energy quotient that is largely student-driven, be it the interactive classroom debates, sporting events, cultural events or the interactive games; each day has something new here. We are always encouraged to be all-rounders by enhancing our overall personality, especially with the current pedagogy of 100% case-based teaching. Learning at IBS-A is through interactions, like participating in a brainstorming session. This case-based methodology has helped us think out of the box and improve our interpersonal skills by boosting our confidence levels tremendously. The case discussion in class is facilitated by the faculty. It is a delight to see that when students come up with new ideas, they are accepted with a lot of enthusiasm. Frequent industry interactions have also helped me understand the trends and current direction of the global market. All this helps in charting my future course of action. Extra-curricular and co-curricular activities are a routine here, with a host of events being organized regularly. Most events conceptualized by the past batches are improved or revamped with each passing year. The campus has various clubs linked to different areas of interest. Some of these clubs are sports club, music club, finance club, nature club, cultural club, etc. To support these interests, the campus is fully equipped with the necessary facilities such as complete sets of musical instruments, sports gear, badminton court, TT tables, library, etc. As a student of IBS-A, I can clearly say that I am industry-ready today, and confident of taking up any role in the industry/society.

The IBS Approach

Sarvesh B Class of 2013, IBS Bangalore
Making a career decision is always crucial, as some of the most important decisions of our life begin with this. I completed my Bachelor of Engineering from a reputed college in Bangalore and was in a dilemma regarding what field and college I should choose for my post-graduation. Due to some of my experiences in college and a brief work experience, I chose management. College was something that I had to choose from the many options available, as I had applied to several leading institutes. Depending on my work experience and the degree, I had to shortlist a few and IBS was one of them. My first day at IBS began with the thought if I had made the right choice. As time passed by, IBS took me through something that I had never imagined. The courses offered made it clear as to how and why management plays a significant role in an organization. The doubt that came up on the first day disappeared, never to appear again. IBS has an incredible way of approaching the curriculum. During undergraduation, concepts just appeared in the form of theory. Here at IBS, case study is the way. It creates a connect between the classroom and the corporate world, on how the concepts and theories were formed, and how they are implemented. This is something that has strengthened my interest to know more, and has kept me curious. Apart from the regular schedule, I have had a lot of opportunity to be a part of cultural, managerial and sports activities. I have celebrated all major festivals here, and we have in-house events, such as Manthan, Tarkash, Rendezvous, Artbeat and so on, to keep us engaged all through the year. I have attended guest lectures from industry representatives and had visited a few industries. IBS has given me more than what I could imagine. It has made me industryready. It has instilled in me confidence backed by subject knowledge. More than anything, it has given me the strength to handle failures and rise from them.

IBS - An Experience to be cherished

Dr. Angshurekha Hazarika Class of 2013, IBS Dehradun
The foremost concern, after my admission in IBS, Dehradun was how to cope in a new environment, a new place far away from home. The attachment with home and the thought of living far away made me feel completely insecure, but the social atmosphere in IBS was completely different with people hailing from different cultures, and with the passage of time IBS turned out to be a Home away from Home for me. Cooperation helped me not to get stereotyped and not to shun even those not known to me. July 1, 2011 was the first day in my class, and the first lecture was on Economics, on the topic Demand. Being a student of purely medical science, I was speculating a torturous lecture, but it was astonishing to see with what ease the concept of demand and supply was taught to me by creating a hypothetical market, and more splendid part of it was that the lecture related the concept to our situation. We were told how and why we should make our demand inelastic. After a year at IBS, the most hated subject became my favourite one. IBS imparts the right business/ functional knowledge and teaches us practical, application aspects. It does it through courseware, teaching methods, case studies and industry-interaction activities. Stress and Time Management was one interesting thing which I learnt, with classes kicking off at 9:00 AM in the morning and with each class demanding assignments, presentations, research, thesis and whatnot; and this would continue till the last class that ends at 5:30 PM, with only one break of forty five minutes in between. Such a hectic schedule requires a lot of planning and preparation for the next days classes. Today if I find myself more arranged, compatible, focused, and capable of bringing out the maximum output within the stipulated time period and remain calm with firmness, it is because of IBS. IBS made us invest our time and energy in such activities in order to build the foundation for a successful career in management.

Where Dreams Come True

Isha Goel Class of 2013, IBS Gurgaon
Studying at IBS Gurgaon has been a tremendously valuable learning experience. I would like to thank the faculty and the management team for their professional guidance which provided me the requisite skills to do well in the corporate world. The IBS Business School PGPM program provides students a mix of both academic theory and practical business experience. It absolutely delivered on its promise of quality lecturing and coursework. The academic curriculum is designed in such a way that each subject builds on previous classes, while at the same time complementing both the classes and the projects running concurrently. Classes are taught in an interactive fashion, allowing me to build on my own experience by learning from my classmates as well as the lecturers. Much of our academic work takes the basic tenets of business theory and applies it to cases. The programs boutique nature and emphasis on group work allows all students to excel in their strengths and allows for extra help in areas that are more challenging. The emphasis on group work was particularly important to me while picking this program and I have not been disappointed. Modern business requires leaders who can work with different types of people in all kinds of environments, and the IBS Business School does a superb job at creating this environment. Upon completion of the Program, I feel that I not only furthered my intellectual growth through education, but also gained true work experience through the flagship 3-month company internship project. I personally believe that this qualification will be a mark in the long run whereby everything will be judged on the basis of whether it came before or after the IBS PGPM program. IBS Business School, teachers, placement team, academic co-coordinator and the peer mates, thank you for making these amazing two years a wonderful experience. Id love to keep in touch with the IBS family.

My life at IBS
Ankit Mishra

Class of 2013, IBS Hyderabad

You can do anything, but not everything. David Allen A quote I used to believe in before I knew what a B-school life could teach me. It is pessimistic quote for starters. But, here comes the interesting part the journey that I have undertaken here holds everything within reach now. All the things that I had dreamt of doing throughout my school years and my undergrad years have become attainable all because of the valuable time I have spent here. Profound to intriguing to plain funny, the experiences in IBS are as varied as they can be. Studies, extra-curricular activities and friends dreaming was way easier than the reality I experienced here. I have heard a saying about management courses which sounds clichd, but which is very true: Yes, it is all about time management! I wanted to be good at my studies. I did that by maintaining a decent CGPA. I realized at an early stage that the case methodology system at IBS is what beckoned me. So I made sure to participate and contribute towards a healthy discussion in my class. The extensive brainstorming that followed each topic helped retain the learning for a lifetime. When I came here I wanted to be active across the spectrum of student activities I had heard of, and I did that with the support of my faculty mentors and friends. I was very active in sports, and even formed my own cricket team. I was a part of the organizing committee of all the major fests that happened at IBS. I initiated a movement called SAMAAJIKA towards helping the society. These experiences taught me how to be a team leader and a mentor. I always wanted to have great friends. Now, when I look back, amidst all that I had and did, those that stand out are my friends. All the learning, activities and fun would have been incomplete without the support of my friends. This has been a crucial learning for me here. All of us should have some people with whom we can share our happiness and who will stand by us through thick and thin. I feel proud as well as humble to have learnt this lesson very early in life. Life at IBS is about management, fun, and learning, but it also teaches you the importance of working in teams.

There is much more to life beyond the classroom at IBS

There are moments in life that make you and set the course of who you are going to be. Sometimes they are little, subtle moments. Sometimes they are big moments you never saw coming. One might not ask for his or her life to change, but it does. Its what you pursue after that which really counts. Thats when you find who you are. I believe that these lines go well with my life. IBS Jaipur has been helping me in bringing out those changes in me. I feel previleged to be a part of such an institution. There are pros and cons to everything that exist under the sun but to extract benefits from the opportunities available, mining precious metal from the crude ore, is an art. Being a student of the pilot batch at IBS Jaipur, I have been taught lot many things that would certainly help me in my professional career coming ahead. I came across many unexpected situations during my internship. I perceived that I could perform better and more productively, which fetched me a lot of appreciation and encouragement from my company guidethis I can undoubtedly attribute to my learnings at IBS. Culturally Rich IBS

Karishma Sikdar

Class of 2014, IBS Kolkata

IBS Business School Kolkata has opened the gates for the all-round development of its current batch of scholars this year, as it does every year. I was privileged to be a vibrant part of it, along with my other peers. Co-Scholastic activities occupied a large part of our lives once we started our classes in this prestigious business school. Life for us had already started on a different note altogetherdancing to the tunes' of different strokes of intellect, rhythm, melody, brainstorming, turncoat debates, and so on. All these and more filled our lives and souls with a new glow of enlightenment and endeavour. Being a part of this rich culture-oriented program is helping us to grow in a big way, and our faculty members are always by our side to show us the way to achieve success. We have realised that a little step towards the golden goal is actually going to help us walk the road towards the final line of victory. The real kudos, of course, always goes to our worthy teachers. IBS Business School, for me, is a dream which I am living daily. Life has taken a new dimension, and it seems that from now onwards, there is no looking back. I'm certain that we are going to become confident, cooperative, compassionate and caring entrepreneurs ready to take on the world from all sides and angles.

B-School of Opportunities
Gurpreet Singh Ghotra

Class of 2014, IBS Mumbai

Admission in IBS-Mumbai is like a sunrise of numerous opportunities. IBSMumbai has an excellent education system for students where I interacted with my faculty during classroom sessions and discussed concepts like Game Theory, Hypothesis, Valuation of Stocks and Leadership in corporate world in the form of cases related to modern corporate world. Learning in these sessions from faculty who have years of experience in industry has kept me updated and prepared for any type of work situation to come after placements. While holding various positions of responsibilities, I learnt adaptability also. Managing events by working in large teams, being a member of the Library Committee, experimenting market products in intersection events, and learning team building before allocating tasks in team during event management were all like working in a mini-corporate world. Starting a work on short notice and being able to take right decisions under constraints of resources were moments filled with real-life knowledge and experience. These experiences at IBS-Mumbai have made me mature and professional in my approach. Managing studies and all other interesting activities required lot of patience, and this taught me selfbelief. Social relationship in IBS-Mumbai was an essential part of growth, where I could make friends from every corner of the country. They have become growth engines in my life and pillars of my strength in all my activities on the campus. Participations in Presentations and Group Live Projects, as part of the curriculum, has made me aware of my strengths and weaknesses. Thanks to my teachers and friends for nurturing my multitasking abilities. IBSMumbai converts students into leaders of tomorrow.

Destiny Redefined
Anirban Roy Chaudhari

Class of 2013, IBS Pune

IBS Pune is not only a premier B-school in India but also a place which has helped in redefining my destiny as well as of others like me. The two years spent here paved the path for a successful professional career. IBS Pune provides attention to continuous improvement in communication, and interpersonal and leadership skills, with a strong theoretical base. These were in line with the common goal of getting placed in an excellent firm with a competitive package, which in my case was Deloitte. IBS Pune is an equal mix of cultural activities, sports events, management fest (ZEAL), festivals and academics. It was a platform where I was able to exploit my knowledge in academics, show my skills and abilities in sports events like IFL, ITL, etc., and also actively participate in cultural activities. Theoretical knowledge was accompanied by real-life case studies, industrial visits and guest lectures at IBS Pune, to prepare me for the tremendous competitive world outside the campus. IBS Pune gave me huge confidence, taught to believe in myself, a lot of inspiration for a successful professional life in future, and some golden friends whom I can never forget. I am just running out of words to express their value in my life. IBS Pune Take a bow. You were, are and will be just awesome. Cheers!
