Listening Openheartedly to create Trust and direction Uniting clients with Success
The International Coach Federation defines coaching in the following way: Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives. The Lotus Coaching Model supports this definition, while blending my own individual coaching personality and style. Listening is the fundamental basis of my coaching approach. Only through active listening can a coach observe and learn what the client is seeking and what their personal strengths are, to provide support to enhance the skills, resources and creativity that the client already has. (ICF website 2006) Listening is the platform a coach needs to accomplish this and elicit solutions and strategies from the client. (101-Coaching-What is it? ICA LL1) Listening openheartedly, means to listen openly and without passing judgment. This is the only way to build and establish trust with clients. Through this basis of trust, the client feels they have a safe space to open up, explore themselves, what they want and how to go about getting it, thus creating goals and their own pathway to their intended or discovered success. The coach asks powerful questions, creating dialogue and reflecting back to the client what they have heard and understood, creating clarification, thus creating discovery and direction on what the clients seeks in terms of goals and successes. It is very important for the coach to acknowledge what she hears the client saying. Through this and other simple validations, the client feels united with their own journey to their self proclaimed goals and successes. A client will only successfully reach their goals and successes by discovering their own pathway. The coach is the clients primary tool for this and the client is asked for any takeaways at the end of each session.

3. Client reaches their success (blooms as illustrated) goals with the help of their coaches powerful questions, active listening and the safe space created for their exploration of self discovery.
