U.S. raisin exports for 2011/12 are forecast to rise 6 percent to 155,000 metric tons (MT) primarily due to
higher shipments to Europe and China. Although a majority of Europes market is supplied by Turkey
and Iran, the United States is virtually unchallenged in Chinas growing import market. U.S. exports to
Japan and Canada will likely remain unchanged as these markets have been flat for several years.
Globally, the United States is forecast to remain the second largest exporter behind Turkey.

2011/12 is forecast at 1.1
million MT, up slightly from
the previous year.
The
United States is forecast 4
percent lower due in part to
mildew problems from cool,
wet weather early in the
summer. Also the crop was
two weeks behind normal
which is expected to increase
the drying ratio and reduce
production. Offsetting these
losses, Turkey is forecast 4
percent higher on favorable
growing conditions following
last years excessive rains.
China is forecast up nearly 10
percent as producers recover
from last years windstorm in
Turpin, the primary growing
region.

Global raisin consumption is forecast to expand 4 percent to 1.1 million MT, driven mainly by Chinas
rebounding domestic supplies. Europe, which consumes nearly one-third of the worlds raisins, has seen
little growth for the last few years on lackluster demand from food manufacturers, ingredient suppliers
and institutional bakers.
Global exports are forecast up 4 percent to 731,000 MT on strong gains from the United States,
Afghanistan, and South Africa. Slower expansion is forecast for Turkey and Iran stemming from modest
growth in available supplies.
