CourseTopics Thiscourseisaboutthermodynamicsanditsfoundationinstatisticalmechanics.Itbuilds onthemacroscopicthermodynamicscoveredinCHEM121(calorimetryandenthalpy) andCHEM122(entropy,freeenergy,andequilibrium).Themicroscopicfoundationsof thetheoryaremadeexplicit,andapplicationssuchasheatengines,refrigerators,and chemicalreactionsarestudied. CourseText WewilluseAnIntroductiontoThermalPhysicsbyDanielSchroeder. AtSoutheastern'stextbookrentalyouwillbealsogivenasecondarybook,Physical Chemistry,byPeterAtkinsandJuliodePaula. Thematerialtobecoveredischapters16inSchroeder;ifyouneedasecondopinion youareinvitedtoconsultchapters17,16,17,and21inAtkins.
