INTERNSHIP INFORMATION IOCL Mathura In-plant training in OHCU unit (June 2011 - July 2011) The different sections of OHCU(Once Through Hydrocracker Unit) were studied. In-depth analysis was done on the reactor section including its process control. A project was done on the debutanizer column in the recovery section which aimed at studying the effect of various parameters like column top pressure, reboiler duty, reflux rate, column top temperature on the separation efficiency of the column theoretically as well as through simulation on Pro-II software package. Finally optimum values for reflux rate and column pressure were suggested. PROJECTS IIT Roorkee Study of the performance of the cathode catalyst layer of PEM fuel cell using an agglomerate model (June 2012-Ongoing) The project aims to develop a three-dimensional model of the cathode catalyst layer of a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cell which takes into account the transport phenomena, reaction kinetics and catalyst morphology inside the cathode catalyst layer. The model will be solved for different catalyst agglomerate arrangements and the effect of these arrangements on fuel cell performance will be investigated. IIT Roorkee Kinetic modeling of hydrogenolysis of glycerol to propylene glycol (July 2012-Oct 2012) Developed a kinetic model for hydrogenolysis of glycerol to propylene glycol. Different kinetic models were proposed assuming different reaction mechanism and different rate determining steps(RDS). The models hence developed were simulated and their deviation from experimental data was analyzed.
