To set your presence
Your presence information is continuously being updated by Communicator and Office
Communications Server 2007 R2 based on several factors, including your Outlook Calendar, whether
you’re in a call, an IM session, or conference. However, there may be times when you want to
manually change your presence status. For example, if you’ve got a deadline, you may want to change
your status to Do Not Disturb to avoid being interrupted.
The presence information that is displayed for each contact in your contact list reflects the
availability of the contact. Presence status is indicated graphically by an indicator to the left of
the contact’s name, and by a text string to the right of the contact’s name. Some presence
states, such as Available, can be set by the user either with Communicator Phone Edition or
Communicator 2007 R2. Other presence states, such as Inactive, can be set only by
Communicator.
To set your presence by using Communicator Phone Edition, follow these steps:
1. At the top of the screen, tap the presence color to the left to your name.
2. Tap your presence status.
The following table describes each presence indicator and the accompanying status text.
21 Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 Phone Edition User’s Guide
Do Not The contact is available but does not want to be interrupted. This
Disturb status is displayed for the following reasons:
• The contact has manually set his or her presence status to Do
Not Disturb.
• The contact is displaying a Microsoft® Office PowerPoint®
presentation or is running another program in full-screen
mode.
Away The contact is probably not available. This status is displayed for
the following reasons:
• The contact’s computer has been idle for more than the idle
time period setting—15 minutes by default.
• The contact’s Office Outlook calendar or Out of Office
Assistant indicates that he or she is out of the office.
• The contact is temporarily unavailable. As soon as activity is
detected on the contact’s computer, Communicator 2007 R2
automatically resets the presence status to the appropriate
state.
• The contact has manually set his or her presence status to
Away.
Be Right This contact is engaged in another activity and will return shortly.
