Oaklands Uptown Welcomes 3 New Leases at 2201 Broadway


Oakland, CA January 17, 2013 Recently, 2201 Broadway announced 3 new leases: The Kapor Center has moved its headquarters from San Francisco to Metrovations building in Uptown Oakland. The well-respected group of organizations - Kapor Capital, the Mitchell Kapor Foundation and Level Playing Field Institute - leased 12,830 square feet in spaces on several floors. Sparkart, a digital agency & lab whose clients include America's Cup, Bon Jovi, Redbox, UFC and more, has leased 6,333 square feet on a 6-year term. Amazon Watch, a well respected nonprofit which supports indigenous people and protects the Amazon rainforest has just leased 3,996 square feet for a 5-year term. They are also relocating from San Francisco. "2201 Broadway is a truly historic building and we are very excited to make it our new home. The Metrovation team has done an amazing job of making 2201 Broadway one of the most comfortable and best run buildings in the city of Oakland," said Sparkart CEO, Naveen Jain. Chris Curtis, a development partner of Metrovation and one of the owners of 2201 Broadway said, The addition of such high caliber creative tenants, as The Kapor Center and Sparkart, is further validation of the trend of tech tenants finding the Uptown District of Oakland an attractive environment in which to locate. 2001 Broadway: is a 200,000 square foot art deco office building completed in 1931 as the flagship of Breuners Home Furnishings store. The building has become the premier office building in the heart of the burgeoning Uptown district of Oakland. The building is 96% leased with the recent addition of nearly 13,000 square feet leased to the various Kapor entities. The building has a prestigious and varied tenant roster including Childrens Hospital Foundation,

Oakland East Bay Symphony, Gateway Bank, Oakland Ballet, Center for Environmental Health, Change Lab Solutions, Franz, Inc. and Cyark, Inc. The building is located two blocks from the th 19 Street BART Station in the Uptown arts and entertainment district among the exciting new restaurants and art galleries. The building hosts the Great Wall of Oakland video arts program that is a highlight of the first Friday Art Murmur in the Uptown district. Recent programs include dancing on the Great Wall by Project Bandaloop, a collaboration with Pandora to launch its new Oakland station, and a Pixar night featuring the personal works of Pixar artists. The Downtown Oakland and Lake Merritt/Uptown District Associations: were formed in February 2009.
