eBay and mobile transactions Every new set of financial results from tech companies these days underscore the importance of having a strong mobile platform. In case of eBay, its particularly important. Bloomberg quotes Bill Smead, Bill Smead, chief investment officer of Smead Capital Management which works with eBay: The legacy marketplaces business its kind of carried into mobile. You get involved with bidding or selling something on EBay, and its nice to carry around the device where youre doing that with you. Apples China problem Apple is not concerned just about its supply chain in China, but also about the demand for its products. Last month, IDC said Apples ranking dropped by two places to sixth, as customers went for cheaper smart phones. There were reports that Apple is planning a cheaper iPhone, but later (without entirely denying the news) its marketing head Phil Schiller said it would never make a cheap phone. Now, demand is a function of price it goes up, as price comes down. But, demand is also a function of financing it can be generated by giving easier access to money. Thats exactly what Apple seems to be doing now to gain market share in China. Techchrunch reports that the company has started offering users of its Chinese online store the option to buy devices on credit.

India Tablet Market To Grow 100 Percent

The India tablet PC market is expected to grow by at least 100 percent in 2013, according to CyberMedia Research (CMR). The market recorded sales of 1.1 million units in Q32012 and the research firm estimates the market to close at 3 million units in 2012.The key drivers for growth in 2013 are the new launches by OEMs who are eyeing the Indian consumers, increased adoption of the tablets by the enterprise segment and the recent release of Windows 8-based tablets. While in Q32012, Samsung led the market with 23.9 percent share followed by Micromax with 15.3 percent and the maker of Aakash tablet Datawind with 12.3 percent share in sales, 2013 will witness major change in rankings with increasing expectations of the consumers, and price correction and new launches from global players. The CRM report suggests that the growth in tablet sales will be fueled by government business, enterprise and consumer demand. The report revealed that tablet sales during the third quarter of 2012 peaked at 1.1 million devices, showing a 99.3 percent increase on a quarter-to-quarter basis. The report also highlights the fact that Windows 8-based tablets will be the key devices for 2013, as all the leading manufacturers would be looking to roll-out Windows 8 powered tablets, which will bring crucial changes in market dynamics. According to CMR, there could be some cleansing in the market for sub-Rs 5,000 tablets. 2013 is likely to see some of the players in this segment closing shop due to lack of market acceptability and increasing expectations of consumers, where these devices are bound to fail.

15th Jan 2013

The research firm informed that average sales value of tablets in India during Q32012 was approximately Rs 13,200, while 63.5 percent of all sales were below the Rs 10,000-mark. 2013 will see markets crystallize around three price points: Rs 5,000-10,000; Rs 15,000-20,000 and over Rs 35,000. Some vendors might have to undertake price corrections to fit their devices within these three price segments, to serve the market aptly and participate in these high-volume deals.

Experts view
Said Faisal Kawoosa, Lead Analyst, CMR Telecoms Practice,To my mind two key developments are going to change the India media tablets market significantly one is the availability of Windows 8 -based devices and the adoption of tablets by enterprises for real business applications. Tarun Pathak, Analyst, CMR Telecoms Practice, During Q42012 and through 2013, we expect to see a change in the rankings, with global leaders like Apple and Google coming into their own, especially after the launch of the Apple Mini and Google Nexus range of media tablets, respectively. These new devices closely match the media tablets already available from other leading OEMs in India, in terms of specifications and price levels. So it will be interesting to watch if buyers go for other MNC brands or whether Samsung is able to retain its loyalty.

The legacy of CyberMinds,-IT club at IBS Mumbai was carried forward in the class of 2013 by Vaibhav Moondra and Pulok Saha, along with with Sauhitya Garabadu, Rishi Raj Singh and Chaitanya Fulia. While Vaibhav and Pulok took up the responsibility of heading the club, the core members the three musketeers took it upon themselves to educate IBS-ians about the current IT scenario relevant to an MBA degree holder. Kavita Maam has been a source of constant inspiration and guidance for us. The first initiative was iNews- An IT newsletter reaching every students yahoo mail box on 15 th of every month. A popular second step was the event LAN WARS, literally making Heroes of the Virtual Arena out of students. It was combined with artistically inclined Anime 1.0 which brought out the creative genius in students and required them to come up with animation movies while conveying a social message. The event winners were awarded with trophies and medals. The latest in the string of achievements of the club was iMark a B-Plan presentation competition and dig-IT which included a stellar session by Mr. Rahul Avasthy, Director at Reliance Entertainment- Digital This was done with the support of Operating Media, a digital marketing organization which is also offering internships to students.

Winning Speech
When the series starts from A and goes till O, at O it already feels last but not the least! But yes it was meant to change, and section O witnessed the glory on 07 Jan 2013, at the IMARK event. We emerged victorious as the digital marketers by presenting the fabulous concept of Book My Show dot com. At last, the spirits were high, the motivation was at peak and joy was spread all around the section O. It all started when the IMARK event mentor Chaitanya briefed our class about the event. Again the long faces of our classmates appeared, no more events, no more struggles, no more loosing guys! Well, when a class tries and puts lots of efforts and keeps on doing the same thing for more than one semester without getting any winning results, de motivation is bound to happen. And in our case the movie club Cinekraft results hit the hardest as there we gave our best shot. But may be it was to happen with IT club as we share a special bonding with IT club faculty head Kavita Maam. The feedback we got from Samta Maam is really encouraging. Amongst the bunch of disinterested faces there stood two IT enthusiasts Rishab Agarwal and Nikhilesh Parashar. They were really into doing this digital marketing event. After lot of thinking and grilling of minds both came up with the idea of going for a service based online company. So Book my show dot com came into the picture. I as the CR of section O was looking for some more volunteers and best presenters of our class, but after a while realized the talent lied within. So, the team was formed Nikhilesh did an amazing research on digital marketing. Rishab the techie of the class took the initiative of preparing the best ppts. Finally I and Nikhilesh prepared our marketing strategy and got ourselves all geared up for the event. When class came to know that CR herself was one of the presenters a ray of hope was seen across. Atin Jain co-CR gathered the motivation in the class and the auditorium had maximum population from section O that day. Finally the moment came when the winners were declared. Whole section O rose to celebrate the joy. We showed that when put to work anything can be achieved. This winning of the IMARK event has created a revolution in our section. Now students try to look for their interest areas and work in those with their complete dedication. As a CR also I feel victorious and highly motivated to work for the class. I would like to thank the IT club, IT club faculty head Kavita Maam, our coordinator Samta maam, Nikhilesh, Rishab my co-CR Atin and my whole class for the opportunity the support and the recognition given at every step of this wonderful journey. Anjali Agrawal, CR - Section O

Once Again it was spectacular event organized by CyberMinds. Last time it gave chance to students for improving their presentation skills and Animation as well. This time it was a bit MBAish. A Business Plan Competition related to eCommerce. Every time I think about iMark, I say What An Idea Sirjee. The Moral of Section O was too dropped due to the previous failures. But as we have often heard, Failure is the pillar to Success, it was time for Sec O this time. The co-operation from the Section was too great. Nikhilesh and Anjali had great ideas. And we just to work things out together. Last but not the least, I thank CyberMinds for giving me this opportunity to Mentor Section O.

Chaitanya Fulia, Mentor-Section O

More 3-D movies come out every week, more 3-D TVs are sold. Whether you enjoy it or not 3-D is selling. Manufacturers are also enabling consumers to capture their own 3-D images too. What an appropriate way to add another dimension (literally!) to your photos and video.
