Bishops Committee, December 9, 2012 In attendance: Johnnette Shane, Kevin Minch, Wynne Wilbur, Kirsty Imes, Pete Kelly,

Sally West Natalie Alexander came to talk to the Bishops Committee (before it was called to order) about two issues: A. Interactions with the college communities. At the Diocesan convention there were offers from people to come and do workshops, which might help to engage college students. These include: Dismantling racism Traces of the Trade (roots and consequences of slavery) Oasis. B. Talie already has a grant application mostly written that we could submit for funds towards our building campaign. She will work on it over Christmas and send it to the committee to look over. Call to Order at 12:54 pm. Prior minutes approved unanimously. Vicars Report Diocesan convention: The bishop indicated his approval for same-sex blessings The diocese is experiencing a smaller budget, just as we are. Bishops Wardens report The advent newsletter is out, with seasonal updates. Kevin passed around three Facebook texts that will go live tomorrow, pending BC approval, which was given. Tim, Johnnette and Kevin will be meeting with Kimi soon. The hold-up has been finding a surveyor who would be reasonably priced. The first surveyor contacted offered a very high estimate. Kimi is working on refining her plans, and she will come to Kirksville to talk through the details with this small group. She is also trying to get the state historical preservation representative to be present for this meeting. o Kevin and Tim will be meeting periodically to keep on top of the building project. Tim has agreed to be Project Manager. Junior Wardens report. The drains underneath the street are completely blocked and have to be dug up by the city. Wynne has talked with city workers who confirm this. We need to keep on the citys case by calling each time it rains heavily. We may have to attend a city council meeting to press our case.

Wynne has also been working on fixing the stained spots on the walls behind the choir pews. Pete retrieved the Safeguarding our Children guidelines and Steve Reiser is looking them over so that we can redo our amendments (which appear to have been lost). The guidelines will be sent out for all the Bishops committee to see.

Treasurers report Krista distributed reports via email Old Business: Campus Ministry Workshops such as Talie suggested would be good, but we still need to get Canterbury Club active again. Nominations Committee We have two nominations for Bishops Committee and we still need a representative for the Diocesan convention. Christmas Cards were signed and sealed during the meeting. New Business: Budget Discussion of the budget crunch. Due to the declined number of pledge units, we should revive some of our former fundraising activities such as rummage sales and maybe egg making. It was suggested to combine an indoor rummage sale with egg sales next Easter. Motion to approve the 2013 budget with some cuts to most programs and still carrying just over $9000 deficit: Passed unanimously Resolution regarding Vicar compensation and housing allowance o This needs to be renewed each year. There is a slight increase in money, but a more significant change is the addition of accrual of sabbatical time (ten days each year) for the vicar. This is in line with diocesan practice. o Motion passed unanimously o The Resolution will be attached to these minutes. We will have our delayed planning meeting in February. We should think about another food drive soon, as Food Bank shelves are quite bare. Prayer Adjourned at 2:43 p.m.
