In 1814 we took a little trip Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip. We took a little bacon and we took a little beans And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans. [Chorus:] We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin. There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago. We fired once more and they began to runnin' on Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. We looked down the river and we see'd the British come. And there must have been a hundred of'em beatin' on the drum. They stepped so high and they made the bugles ring. We stood by our cotton bales and didn't say a thing. [Chorus] Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise If we didn't fire our muskets 'til we looked 'em in the eye We held our fire 'til we see'd their faces well. Then we opened up with squirrel guns and really gave 'em ... well [Chorus]
Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go. They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.** We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down. So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round. We filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind. [Chorus] Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go. They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.**

CARELESS LOVE
Love, oh love, oh careless love You've fly through my head like wine You've wrecked the life of a many poor girl And you nearly spoiled this life of mine Love, oh love, oh careless love In your clutches of desire You've made me break a many true vow Then you set my very soul on fire Love, oh love, oh careless love All my happiness bereft You've filled my heart with weary old blues Now I'm walkin', talkin' to myself Love, oh love, oh careless love Trusted you now, it's too late You've made me throw my old friend down That's why I sing this song of hate Love, oh love, oh careless love Night and day, I weep and moan You brought the wrong man into this life of mine For my sins, till judgment I'll atone

Down in the willow garden where me and my love did meet There we sat a-courting my love fell off to sleep I had a bottle of burgundy wine which my true love did not know And there I poisoned that dear little girl down by the banks below I drew my saber through her which was a bloody knife I threw her in the river which was an awful sight My father often told me that money would set me free If I would murder that dear little miss whose name was Rose Connelly Now he sits by his old cabin door a wiping his tear-brimmed eyes Mourning for his only son out on the scaffold high My race is run beneath the sun the devil is waiting for me For I did murder that dear little girl whose name was Rose Connelly

Yeah yeah yeah yeah He makes me do things I don't wanna do He makes me say things I don't wanna say & even though I wanna break away I can't (stop saying I adore him I can't stop doing things for him) He's got the power, the power of love over me (Me, me me me me me) He makes me stay when I don't wanna stay He makes me go when I don't wanna go & though I try to break the spell, I know I can't (stop saying I adore him I can't stop doing things for him) He's got the power, the power of love over me (Can't stop, can't stop, can't stop) Can't stop the way I need him It's got me crazy as can be Oh but I love him He's got a certain somethin' & that's the one thing that has got a hold on me

People are strange when you're a stranger Faces look ugly when you're alone Women seem wicked when you're unwanted Streets are uneven when you're down When you're strange Faces come out of the rain When you're strange No one remembers your name When you're strange When you're strange When you're strange

We went out the other night, Just to have some fun We made all the nite spots, We didn't miss a one Long about 4 in the mornin', We fell in a shack Somebody said "this is groovy" But here's what I acted back This joints too hip for me Yes I'll have to let it be I can't dig what they're putting down Guess I'm just a square around Well, the bands too hip for me They don't play no melody I can't dig what they blowin out Guess I'm just a square about Bop bop bebop, (bout dee on the voofey) For there's bebop, I don't give a whoopy This joints too hip for me Guess I'll have to let it be I can't dig what they're putting down Guess I'm just a square around Now up on the band stand, i can see Righteous beboppers filled with glee McGee and Parker on a dizzy kick Left me cold, I'm such a hick When a cat like Louis blows a tune You know what he's playing right away soon When Coleman Hawkins blows his horn, You remember what he plays for many a morn
Jive by Jordan is Jake with me Blues for bassie and big t Might be corny like a "moon and June" rhyme, But I love to hear the melody some of the time Well the joints too hip for me Yes I'll have to let it be I can't dig what they're putting down Guess I'm just a square around the bands too hip for me I cant find the melody I can't dig what they blowin out Guess I'm just a square about Bop bop bebop, (boutney on the voofey) For there's bebop, I don't give whoopy So let's be on our way Dig this jive another day Cause right now you can see That his joint is too hip for me
