Three-Dimensional Nonwoven Fabrics and their Applications Professor Subhash Anand MBE, The University of Bolton, Bolton, UK The council chairman of The Textile Institute, Manchester, UK and Professor of Centre for Materials Research and Innovation of The University of Bolton is in deed the number one scientist of technical textiles having number of inventions and patents. Prof. Anand said that the world nonwovens market has more than doubled in the last 10 years, from 3.19 million tonnes in 1999 to 6.32 million tonnes in 2009. It was US$22.4 billion in value in 2009 and 2.67 kg per capita annual consumption in Europe. In his paper he discusses recent advances in 3D nonwoven technologies and products and demonstrates that nonwovens are the most exciting and expanding market worldwide and make a crucial contribution in the enhancement of quality of life in the modern world today and in the foreseeable future. He elaborately described the nonwoven manufacturing technologies and also nicely shown the growing trends of nonwoven use. He informed that total bre used in traditional textiles is being out paced by the total bre use of nonwoven sector. For the traditional textiles bre consumption growth rate is 3% per year while technical textiles bre consumption is increasing by 7% per year. Professor Anand demonstrated the three dimensional web formation techniques in the modern kunit and multiknit stitch bonding machines. He explained the properties of those fabrics with the added features for special applications.

conducted by the supervision of two professors T. Tsuzuki and X.Wang of the same university. Her research signies to Morphology of bamboo, Crystalline behaviour of bamboo, Chemical structure of bamboo, UV shielding characteristics of bamboo and Antimicrobial activity of bamboo. It is bamboo because in all aspect of their research they are very strict to be Green always and as bamboo possesses natural antimicrobial and UV shielding ability and the wearers experience instant moisture absorption and evaporation. The research came up with the following points; Bamboo possesses micro gaps like capillary and cellulose I crystalline structure, Conventional degumming (removing lignin) is not an effective manufacturing process to retain the unique properties of raw bamboo in textile bres, Both raw bamboo and extractions have shown a UV shielding ability, particularly in the UVB region, Bamboo possesses natural antimicrobial properties but the active component is not water soluble. Ms. Afrin is undergoing with many more issues of bamboo and some other could not be explored fully as the research is in a patent. Enzyme- A tool towards more sustainable Textile Processing Mr. Madhuakar Kulkarni, Business Head, Textile Enzyme- India, Bangladesh and Srilanka. Genencor. Mr. Kulkarni started with a short review on Genencor, which is nally partnered with a large company Denisco. Genencor has 25+ years of a leadership history in the area of industrial biotechnology. It has a portfolio of over 250 products delivered globally and involved in Grain Processing, Cleaning, Textiles & Leather, Food, Animal Nutrition & Biofuels.
