Jesus Set the Pattern of Humility

Watchtower Study for Week of December 31, 2013 - PAGE 10 SONGS: 84, 82

Song 84 PARA 1 (John 13:3-5) he, knowing that the Father had given all things into [his] hands and that he came forth from God and was going to God, 4 got up from the evening meal and laid aside his outer garments. And, taking a towel, he girded himself. 5 After that he put water into a basin and started to wash the feet of the disciples and to dry them off with the towel with which he was girded. PARA 2 (John 13:12-15) When, now, he had washed their feet and had put his outer garments on and laid himself down at the table again, he said to them: Do YOU know what I have done to YOU? 13 YOU address me, Teacher, and, Lord, and YOU speak rightly, for I am such. 14 Therefore, if I, although Lord and Teacher, washed YOUR feet, YOU also ought to wash the feet of one another. 15 For I set the pattern for YOU, that, just as I did to YOU, YOU should do also. PARA 3 (Luke 9:46-48) Then a reasoning entered among them as to who would be the greatest of them. 47 Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a young child, set it beside him 48 and said to them: Whoever receives this young child on the basis of my name receives me [too], and whoever receives me receives him [also] that sent me forth. For he that conducts himself as a lesser one among all of YOU is the one that is great. (Luke 14:11) For everyone that exalts himself will be humbled and he that humbles himself will be exalted. PARA 4 (Isaiah 50:4, 5) The Sovereign Lord Jehovah himself has given me the tongue of the taught ones, that I may know how to answer the tired one with a word. He awakens morning by morning; he awakens my ear to hear like the taught ones. 5 The Sovereign Lord Jehovah himself has opened my ear, and I, for my part, was not rebellious. I did not turn in the opposite direction.

PARA 5 (READ Jude 9) But when Michael the archangel had a difference with the Devil and was disputing about Moses body, he did not dare to bring a judgment against him in abusive terms, but said: May Jehovah rebuke you. PARA 6 (Philippians 2:6, 7) who, although he was existing in Gods form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God. 7 No, but he emptied himself and took a slaves form and came to be in the likeness of men. PARA 7 (Philippians 2:8) More than that, when he found himself in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient as far as death, yes, death on a torture stake. (Luke 2:51) And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and he continued subject to them. Also, his mother carefully kept all these sayings in her heart. PARA 8 (John 4:34) Jesus said to them: My food is for me to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work. (Matthew 6:9) YOU must pray, then, this way: Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. (John 17:26) And I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them. (John 5:19) Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: Most truly I say to YOU, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner. PARA 9 (Zechariah 9:9) Be very joyful, O daughter of Zion. Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem. Look! Your king himself comes to you. He is righteous, yes, saved; humble, and riding upon an ass, even upon a full-grown animal the son of a she-ass.

(Matthew 21:4-11) This actually took place that there might be fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet, saying: 5 TELL the daughter of Zion, Look! Your King is coming to you, mild-tempered, and mounted upon an ass, yes, upon a colt, the offspring of a beast of burden. 6 So the disciples got on their way and did just as Jesus ordered them. 7 And they brought the ass and its colt, and they put upon these their outer garments, and he seated himself upon them. 8 Most of the crowd spread their outer garments on the road, while others began cutting down branches from the trees and spreading them on the road. 9 As for the crowds, those going ahead of him and those following kept crying out: Save, we pray, the Son of David! Blessed is he that comes in Jehovahs name! Save him, we pray, in the heights above! 10 Now when he entered into Jerusalem, the whole city was set in commotion, saying: Who is this? 11 The crowds kept telling: This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee! PARA 10 (Job 1:9-11) At that Satan answered Jehovah and said: Is it for nothing that Job has feared God? 10 Have not you yourself put up a hedge about him and about his house and about everything that he has all around? The work of his hands you have blessed, and his livestock itself has spread abroad in the earth. 11 But, for a change, thrust out your hand, please, and touch everything he has [and see] whether he will not curse you to your very face. (Job 2:4) But Satan answered Jehovah and said: Skin in behalf of skin, and everything that a man has he will give in behalf of his soul. (READ Proverbs 27:11) Be wise, my son, and make my heart rejoice, that I may make a reply to him that is taunting me. PARA 11 (Matthew 20:28) Just as the Son of man came, not to be ministered to, but to minister and to give his soul a ransom in exchange for many. (Romans 5:18) So, then, as through one trespass the result to men of all sorts was condemnation, likewise also through one act of justification the result to men of all sorts is a declaring of them righteous for life.

(John 10:16) And I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; those also I must bring, and they will listen to my voice, and they will become one flock, one shepherd. (Romans 8:16, 17) The spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are Gods children. 17 If, then, we are children, we are also heirs: heirs indeed of God, but joint heirs with Christ, provided we suffer together that we may also be glorified together. PARA 12 (Matthew 11:28, 29) Come to me, all YOU who are toiling and loaded down, and I will refresh YOU. 29 Take my yoke upon YOU and learn from me, for I am mild-tempered and lowly in heart, and YOU will find refreshment for YOUR souls. (Matthew 11:30) For my yoke is kindly and my load is light. PARA 13 (Matthew 20:29-34) Now as they were going out of Jericho a great crowd followed him. 30 And, look! two blind men sitting beside the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying: Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David! 31 But the crowd sternly told them to keep silent; yet they cried all the louder, saying: Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David! 32 So Jesus stopped, called them and said: What do YOU want me to do for YOU? 33 They said to him: Lord, let our eyes be opened. 34 Moved with pity, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately they received sight, and they followed him. (Mark 10:46-52) And they came into Jericho. But as he and his disciples and a considerable crowd were going out of Jericho, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting beside the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he started shouting and saying: Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me! 48 At this many began sternly telling him to be silent; but he kept shouting that much more: Son of David, have mercy on me! 49 So Jesus stopped and said: CALL him. And they called the blind man, saying to him: Take courage, get up, he is calling you. 50 Throwing off his outer garment, he leaped to his feet and went to Jesus. 51 And in answer to him Jesus said: What do you want me to do for you? The blind man said to him: Rabboni, let me recover

sight. 52 And Jesus said to him: Go, your faith has made you well. And immediately he recovered sight, and he began to follow him on the road. PARA 15 (Matthew 23:12) Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Philippians 2:9-11) For this very reason also God exalted him to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every [other] name, 10 so that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, 11 and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. PARA 16 (Psalm 45:4) And in your splendor go on to success; Ride in the cause of truth and humility [and] righteousness, And your right hand will instruct you in fear-inspiring things. (READ 1 Corinthians 15:24-28) Next, the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has brought to nothing all government and all authority and power. 25 For he must rule as king until [God] has put all enemies under his feet. 26 As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing. 27 For [God] subjected all things under his feet. But when he says that all things have been subjected, it is evident that it is with the exception of the one who subjected all things to him. 28 But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone.
