Welcome to Breastfeeding Philippines! Breastfeeding Philippines is a vision...

We dream that all mothers will breastfeed their children and celebrate this profound experience of motherhood with gratitude and respect to God's infinite wisdom and generosity. We want to make breastfeeding counseling, a national endeavor; the staging of Sabay-Sabay Sumuso sa Nanay and the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, a national passion. We revive earth-friendly Filipino indigenous nurturing practices that sustained breastfeeding in the past. We campaign to counter the current social pressure to give hazardous formula milk to our babies and young children. We establish a career that will enhance motherhood, a career that will empower mothers so they will realize the body's tremendous capacity to nurture, heal and regenerate. We work to create an environment that supports and protects breastfeeding mothers because we believe that parenting is a social responsibility.

Promotion The main goal of promotion is to enable parents to recognize, appreciate and utilize our bodys tremendous capacity to nurture, heal and regenerate itself, establishing breastfeeding as the norm and the gold standard in infant and young child feeding. Certain Filipino health and nurturing practices that sustained it in the past should be revived alongside the promotion of issues that breastfeeding addresses: food security, medicine, economy, ecology, empowerment, love and faith. Worldwide trends in breastfeeding promotion also emphasize not only the advantages of breastfeeding but more so the risks of bottle-feeding and the hazards of formula milk. Aside from locally-initiated activities to promote breastfeeding, nationally-coordinated events of tremendous impact will be the major vehicles of our core messages that will mobilize advocates and educate parents. These are: Celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (Presidential Proclamation 1113)

Support Provision of professional and social support for breastfeeding entails accurate and timely information, education and encouragement enabling mothers to have the breastfeeding experience, she and her child needs. Humane care during childbirth, advice, reassurance, affirmation, hands-on assistance, and practical tips will all boost the confidence of parents to nurture their children. To support breastfeeding, this project aims to create the training program standards and regulations of breastfeeding counselors, lactation specialists and massage specialists for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers that will be recognized under the Ladderized Interface between Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education (HE) of TESDA. The TVET system was institutionalized through Executive Order 358 that was signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo last September 15, 2004. This will facilitate the: Training of advocates, breastfeeding counselors and lactation specialists Establishment of breastfeeding clinics and breastfeeding stations Establishment of Breastfeeding-friendly workplaces under our Corporate Lactation Support Program Protection Protecting breastfeeding calls for all complementary foods to be marketed in ways that do not undermine exclusive and sustained breastfeeding beyond two years. Our government being a signatory to the international agreement has its responsibilities in implementing the International Code and the Philippine laws that protect breastfeeding. The activities of this pillar are: To ensure the strict adherence of the healthcare system especially medical professionals to the laws that protect breastfeeding and in observing the international standard of ethics.

To train advocates who will continuously monitor compliance of milk and babyfood companies, producers of bottles, pacifiers and teats of the laws so as not to undermine the Filipino parents decision to breastfeed.
