Step Two Introduction A. Greeting: Hi! Today Im going to teach you how to create and manage a website using Google and other programs. B. Attention Getter: Youve probably considered making a website before, for an organization, biography, fan club, or some other reason. Making a website is a good way to form clubs or attract customers for a service, like babysitting or pet care. C. Thesis Statement: A website is an easy, paperless alternative to flyers, and, if done correctly, it can attract visitors from all over the world. D. Credibility: Most of my experience comes from a fan site I made, called The Firebolt, and the tools Im going to tell you how to use have really helped. E. Summative Overview: Im going to teach you the basics of Google Sites, as well as how to index your site, create a custom URL, and find out who is visiting your website. F. Benefit(s): If you know the basics of creating a website, it can become a fun hobby.

Step Three Body A. Transition: So, the first step is to create a Google Account on google.com, if you dont have one already. Google is one of the most widely used search engines, so using Google will increase the chances of someone finding your website during a search session. B. Main Idea 1: When youve created a Google account, go to sites.google.com, and log in with your Google username and password. Then, select Create. Supporting Ideas: This will direct you to a page with many options. You will need to select a template, a theme, a site name, and a web address. After youve done that, you will be redirected to your new site. Details and Examples: You can edit the home page by clicking the pencil icon in the top right corner. You can also create a new page by clicking the button to the right of the Edit button. If you want to edit your site settings, click the More button and select Manage site. For more details, go to the Google Sites Help Center. C. Transition: When you have successfully started out your site, you may want to make it available to the world. To do this, you need to first make your site public. D. Main Idea 2: While you are signed in to Google, go to your site and select the Share button. In the Who has access section, make sure it says that the site is public on the web. You can click Change to edit these settings.

Supporting Ideas: You may also want to make your site appear in Google searches.

Details/Examples: Go to webmasters.google.com and add your site to your account. Your site will now appear on Google search engine. For detailed instructions, visit the Google help center.

If you want to know more about your visitors, such as how many people visit, their location, and how long they stay, go to analytics.google.com and sign in using your Google account. Register your site, and you will be able to see more info about your visitors.

E. Transition: Now your site is available for people around the world to see via Google, but the long link given by Google Sites may be inconvenient if you want to tell a friend about your site. You probably want a short, easy-toremember URL. F. Main Idea 3: There are two main things you can do to get a convenient domain name. Supporting Ideas: The first way I would recommend is to go to the website co.cc. It offers a free domain name ending with .co.cc. You can register for an account and set up URL forwarding. This will have your new, improved URL lead to your Google site. The second way is to pay a couple of dollars to get a .com or .org URL. The most famous program that offers this is probably GoDaddy. It offers fairly priced urls ending with .com, .net, .org, etc. If you dont have a problem with

paying some money to buy a domain, this will probably be a good program for you to use. G. Transition: This is all you need to get started!
