SCENE 1
NARRATOR: Outside, they look like a normal family. Loving parents, their hormonal daughter, and last but not least their most normal son who, in reality, makes this family anything but normal. LUCY: Will, your father and I have to discuss something with you. WILL: Yes, mother. What is..it? DAVE: Will, say that properly. We know you can, you just dont want to! WILL: Whatisit? (Says unsurely) DAVE: (Bangs fist on table) Darn it, Will. Why cant you speak like a normal human being!? LUCY: Dont yell at him! Thatll just make things more complicated for us! NARRATOR: Now why cant this normal son say a simple three word question? Because of a little something called autism. DAVE: (Sighs annoyingly) Okay, Will. Im sorry I yelled at you. NARRATOR: Will sometimes felt as if his parents wished they didnt give birth to him. He felt trapped, stuck in a house with people who wished he wasnt even born. He tries his best to please them but all he does is anger them even more. He knew is father wasnt truly sorry. In fact, he probably wished he could yell even more. LUCY: Anyways, your sister, Chloe, is going to have a friend over for a night. You have to promise not to bother her! Alright, Will? NARRATOR: Will was terrified if he said something incorrect again, his father would yell at him so he simply nodded instead. DAVE: (Scoffs) Yeah, like he could behave. (Parents leave stage)

SCENE 2
RACHEL: Hi, my names Rachel. Youre Will right?

WILL: (Looks to see her face) No. RACHEL: Oh, um, then, like, whats your name? CHLOE: (Rolls her eyes) Hes just kidding around. His name is Will. WILL: (Yells) No it isnt! My namesBob! MY NAMES BOB! CHLOE: Stop yelling Will! Do you want mom and dad to hear you?! RACHEL: (Whispers to Chloe) Whats, like, wrong with him? CHLOE: Sorry, he got that from these stupid guys at school. His name is Will. RACHEL: (Scoffs) Bill wouldve been better. CHLOE: Hey Rachel, you can go up to my room, Ill be there in a sec. RACHEL: Oh, like, alright. (Leaves stage) WILL: Shes fromour school? CHLOE: Yes. Shes in the eleventh grade like me. WILL: Shes very nice looking CHLOE: Yeah. I wish I could look like her. WILL: (Confused) Why? Youre nice looking too! CHLOE: (Smiles) Thanks buddy! Listen, I know its difficult sometimes to use our indoor voices when were having so much fun but you really have to lower your voice. Mom and dad will hear and theyll get angry especially since we have a guest. So can you do a favor for your favourite sister in the world and please lower your voice just until Rachel leaves? WILL: Am I nice looking? CHLOE: (Sighs) Were you listening to me? I need you to WILL: No! CHLOE: Please Will! What if mom and dad hear? Theyre going to get angry at you. You dont want them angry, do you Will? WILL: No CHLOE: Then may you please be quiet until Rachel leaves? WILL: Will you buy me candy?

CHLOE: (Giggles) Only if you dont disturb Rachel or get in trouble by mom and dad. WILL: And a slushy too!? CHLOE: Yes. Okay, I have to go now but well play later, alright buddy? WILL: (Leaves stage)

SCENE 3
RACHEL: So, is your, like, brother, like, okay? CHLOE: (Sighs) Yes. Hes just not used to me having friends over yet. RACHEL: Lol! Why not? Are you, like, a loner or something? CHLOE: No! No, its not the fact that I dont have friends; its just that its always been difficult to have friends over with him around and everything. RACHEL: Is he, like, mental? NARRATOR: Chloe was offended that Rachel had put it in that way she but tried hard to hide it. She didnt want Rachel to think she was sensitive. CHLOE: No. Hes autistic. RACHEL: No way! So hes like coo-coo? CHLOE: You know theres a different between being autistic and being coo-coo. RACHEL: Dude, relax, I was only kidding around. CHLOE: (Fake laughs) Sorry, Im just in a bad mood. RACHEL: Ive noticed. Youre like being all weird.

SCENE 4
RACHEL: Hey Will WILL: (Looks up to see her face) Im doing work thatpeople are supposed RACHEL: Um, what? WILL: WORK THAT PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO DO AT HOME! I mean, sh! RACHEL: (Confused and scared)

WILL: Do you think Im RACHEL: Uh, I cant understand you. CHLOE: (Enters stage) Oh there you are. I was looking for you. WILL: Chloe! Rachel thinksIm nice looking! CHLOE: (Looks at Rachel) Of course she does. (Whispers to Rachel) Sorry. RACHEL: Yeah, like of course I do! (Nervous) CHLOE: Cmon Rachel, we should leave. RACHEL: Yeah! Lets go out. CHLOE: No, we shouldnt. RACHEL: (Confused) Why not? CHLOE: I mean, I cant leave Will by himself. Lets just hang out in the house. RACHEL: Chloe, could I like ask you a question in private? CHLOE: (Walks away from the kitchen and Will) Yeah, sure whats up? RACHEL: So, like, Im kind of afraid your brothers going to, like, attack me or something. Cant we just leave him? CHLOE: Why would he attack you? Im pretty sure he likes you. RACHEL: Ew, like, no offense or anything but its pretty gross to have a psycho liking you. What if he likes rape you or something? NARRATOR: Chloe was amazingly hurt by what Rachel had said but instead of defending her brother, instead of being true to him and standing up for whats right, she just stood there, dumbfounded as ever. RACHEL: Hello? Answer me! CHLOE: Hes, um, not going to rape you. He just has some problems speaking and controlling his volume. Really, thats all. Hes a really nice kid once you get to know him. RACHEL: I think he wants to rape me or something. He kept on like looking at me while I was in the kitchen. CHLOE: Hes honestly not going to even touch you. Do you want me to go back to the kitchen and tell him to stop looking at you?

RACHEL: No! No, dont do that! He might get, like, angry and want to beat me up. CHLOE: Why are you afraid of him? He hasnt done anything to you. RACHEL: Yet. CHLOE: You dont know him, I do. I promise you hes really sweet. RACHEL: Ugh, hes like disgusting. Its so gross to have a crazy person like you. I wish that people like him werent even like created. They make the world so, like, nasty! NARRATOR: At that moment, Chloe knew she couldnt take it anymore. She snapped. CHLOE: Maybe its people like you who make this world worse than it already is. At least my brother is kind to others. Never says that one shouldnt be born, but you, youre the opposite. I dont know how youll live the rest of your life, knowing you said something so hurtful, so damaging to a persons life because if you havent noticed, you basically said that hes disgusting and shouldnt live for something he was born with, something he didnt get to choose, something he doesnt even want! He wants to be normal! He wants people like you to like him; treat him like you would treat anyone else but obviously you dont even have enough respect to others to even follow that rule. RACHEL: (Feeling guilty) I didnt say he shouldnt live CHLOE: Just get out of here. Youre saying my brother disgusts you? Well, youre disgusting me at this moment.

SCENE 5
WILL: Did Rachelleave? CHLOE: (Sighs) Yep. WILL: I didnt getto say bye-bye. CHLOE: Dont talk to her anymore, okay? If you see her at school, just ignore her. WILL: Sheshe doesnt like me? CHLOE: It doesnt matter Will. WILL: WHY SHE DOESNT LIKE ME? CHLOE: It. Doesnt. Matter. WILL: ITS BECAUSE OF YOU! YOU TOLD HER TO LEAVE!

CHLOE: Get over it Will! People like her arent worth our time anyways! WILL: NO! TELL HER TO BE HERE BACK! CHLOE: Stop it Will! WILL: CALL HER! CHLOE: Will, stop! Shes a bad person; she said that people like you shouldnt live! Do you still want her back!? WILL: Peoplelike me? CHLOE: Just forget everything I said. WILL: (Cries) Why doesntme she likes? CHLOE: Will, please, Im sorry. Dont cry. WILL: WHY COULDNT I BE NORMAL!? CHLOE: Stop! Youre perfect just the way you are right now! WILL: NORMAL! WHY CANT I BE YOU? CHLOE: Will, go to your room now! WILL: Why arentnormal? CHLOE: Look, no ones normal. Normalcy is something society created. Am I normal Will? Do I have the life/look of the girls on TV? No way. What about Samantha jogging outside. Why is she even jogging in the first place? To be healthy? Shes already healthy. She works as a lifeguard at the pool you love. She swims to be active. She told me shes trying to lose 20 pounds. Why? Because society told her to. Normalcy isnt real, Will so stop thinking it is. WILL: But why doeshate me? CHLOE: She doesnt hate you. She just wasnt thinking for a moment. WILL: Do you think...I should live? CHLOE: Of course. Even though its not the most perfect life, its still pretty great compared to others. Be happy, Will. Who cares about what she said, shes one person. Dont let her bring you down. Youre one of the most kind hearted people I know, you dont need to end it just because someone said you should. People like you have to deal with a lot, I know. But that also means you guys are stronger than us. Way stronger than I could ever be.
