Man Sentenced For Second Degree Murder of Wife Joel Matthew The Activist Answers HILLVIEW - Allan Smith

buried his face in his hands Friday afternoon when the sentence was read aloud by the jury after being charged for second degree murder in the death of his wife Helen of forty years. It all started two years ago when Helen Smith had been admitted to the Hillview General Hospital where Doctors had diagnosed her with terminally ill lung cancer. Cancer which the prosecution claimed was caused by years of second hand smoke brought on by her husbands bad habit. In a speech given outside the courtroom Crown Prosecutor Jim Oswald told the media that it was about time deviants like Allan Smith pay for their actions this is a clear case of neglect, and it is only fair that Mr. Smith be punished Defense attorney Fred Harrington disagreed and claimed the entire charge as simply absurd. His team had argued that the Smiths had held a wonderful relationship throughout their marriage and that Allans smoking was never an issue. Mr. Smith has been a smoker for many years now. While I agree that it is a bad habit, Mr. Smith is a free citizen in a free country and he has done absolutely nothing wrong in the eyes of the law. Anti-Smoking activist Patricia Grey says that this case will set a precedent for many more cancer-related deaths all across the country. The fact is that smoking causes cancer. Without cigarettes, people like Helen Smith would be able to live a few years longer and not have their lives taken away by selfish criminals who would sooner choose to satisfy their own cravings over another persons life. A.A. reporters attempted to contact the federal government to discuss the issue of having these deadly products readily available in stores across the country, but they refused to comment citing only that they would launch an inquiry into the matter. As for Allan, he was given a sentence of ten years in a federal prison with the possibility of parole after two years. He must also participate in an addiction rehabilitation program while serving his time. We interviewed Mr. Smith from his cell at the Hillview Penitentiary a few days after his sentence had been read:

Im shocked really. Im also very upset. As if losing my wife of forty years wasnt bad enough, then the government had to get involved like it always does and charge me for my loss. The probably even paid for the trial with money I gave them for the products they claim killed my wife. I loved Helen deeply and I would never have intentionally hurt her in any way. Its those drug dealers in Ottawa who should be in here, not me!
