7 Tips for Completing Your Bible in One Year Reading

2013 Raquel S. Lettsome Ministries

The decision to read the Bible in one year is a great one to make. However, it does prove challenging. It requires discipline, consistency, and perseverance. So, here are a few tips to help you complete this journey: 1. Commit to a time of day to do your reading. Do not wait to "find" time, CREATE the time and keep to it. There will always be other things to do. Make this a priority! 2. You do not have to read it all at once. It may be more helpful if you split it up. The average daily reading consists of 2-3 chapters of a particular book/letter plus a portion of Psalms and Proverbs. Below are a few suggested ways of handling the material, these are only suggestions: If you are more of a night owl or have more time to yourself in the evening/night: Morning: Psalms (so you start the day with the word) Evening: Main Book/letter (when you are more alert or less pressed for time) If you are a morning person or have more time in the morning to read: Morning: Main book/letter Evening: Psalms 3 times a day plan: If the main book or letter has 3 chapters, read 1 chapter in the morning, lunch time, and evening. Add the Psalm or Proverbs reading where you have the most time. If the main book or letter has 2 chapters, read 1 chapter in the morning, one at lunch and the Psalm in the evening. (Or any combination thereof). If the main book or letter has 4 chapters, divide the reading over the three times of day to space it out. Regardless of how you do it, make sure you begin your day by reading some portion of the Word of God. 3. Choose one strategy and one time of day and commit to it. The more time you honor the time and complete it, the more momentum you build. The more you feed your spirit, the hungrier it comes. It will begin to crave the Word and feel unsatisfied when you skip a meal. By doing this, you will create a GREAT habit of reading the Word. However, the more you waver, change things up, flip the time, the more EXCUSES you are giving yourself to put it off and sabotage your own progress. 4. Choose the place where you will read. The more you read in that space, the easier the reading becomes. Eventually, being in that place at that time will trigger the response to read the Word. It will help

2 reading the Word become almost automatic becuase you will associate the time and the place with reading the Word of God. 5. Get an accountability partner and encourage one another to stick with it! Set a aside some time during the week or everyday (if possible) to discuss what you have read. Let the Word live in your life! 6. If you miss or do not complete a reading, MOVE FORWARD. Go back as time allows, but not at the expense of moving forward! Even if you do not read the entire Bible during this year, you will have read more than you ever have and portions you never read. KEEP GOING! 7. Every week (Monday-Friday), my FB morning posts (www.facebook.com/RevRaquel) will in some way incorporate a thought or scripture or theme from the day's reading to encourage you to keep going. The Word of God is RICH and I am excited about the revelations we will receive and the challenge of hearing God in the portions of scripture that we do not read or study often. I hope these tips help and I pray that you will walk with me as I walk through the Word. As always, happy reading!
