Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for the Islamic Capital Market: Shariah Advisor Programme (i-Advisor)

1. Q: What is i-Advisor? A: The Islamic Capital Market: Shariah Advisor Programme (i-Advisor) is one of the initiatives by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) in providing continuous professional development in the area of Shariah Advisory relating to the Islamic Capital Market (ICM). The programme, funded by the Capital Market Development Fund (CMDF) and organised by the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC), is exclusively developed to integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of industry knowledge. 2. Q: What is unique about i-Advisor? A: With a minimal investment, i-Advisor will assist you in gaining a holistic knowledge and understanding of the ICM from a local and global perspective. i-Advisor is designed in a structured manner. The knowledge acquisition involves experiential learning comprising case studies, analysis, discussions and video presentations, delivered by trainers who are subject matter experts in ICM, Islamic finance practitioners, Shariah advisors and/or academicians. Given the exposure on best practices and guidelines that govern ICM in Malaysia, participants will be more competent and innovative in addressing ICM issues after completing the course. 3. Q: Who are the target participants of the programme? A: We welcome Shariah advisors, academicians and practitioners servicing the Islamic finance industry and new ICM entrants, with priority given to Shariah advisors.

Q: What are the modules of i-Advisor? A: The i-Advisor programme comprises 6 modules: Fundamentals of Shariah Rulings (Elective) Regulatory Requirements and Legal Documentation in ICM Accounting, Auditing and Taxation in ICM Islamic Equity Market The Sukuk Market ICM: Contemporary Shariah Issues & Challenges

Q: How will i-Advisor be conducted? A: The 13-day i-Advisor programme will be offered on a modular basis with the duration of each module ranging from 1 to 3 days. Participants are allowed to enrol for any module without any prerequisite, subject to the availability of the module. The programme will be conducted on weekends, but may be re-scheduled where necessary.

Q: How many series will be offered in 2012 and when? A: There will be only two series for the i-Advisor programme in 2012. The first series will be offered from March to June and the second series will be from June to October. You may check the schedule on our website www.sidc.com.my.

Q: Do I have to take all 6 modules offered? A: No, you may enrol only for the modules relevant or of interest to you.

What will I achieve after completing the course? You will be given a certificate of attendance after completing each module. A certificate of completion will be awarded upon completion of all 6 modules (Module 1 is an elective course).

Q: What is my investment for the programme?

A:

Your investment is RM350 per module or RM2,100 for the entire programme comprising 6 modules.

10. Q: Will I need to pay for the training materials? A: No. All training materials will be included in the fees. However, participants are advised to buy the 6-ICM Series by the SC for RM250 as additional reference. 11. Q: Where will i-Advisor be conducted? A: The programme will be conducted at the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), 3, Persiaran Bukit Kiara, Bukit Kiara 50490 Kuala Lumpur. Participants will be informed if there is any change to the training venue. 12. Q: How do I apply for i-Advisor? A: To apply, you can download the registration form from our website www.sidc.com.my. Email your completed form and resume to HidayahH@sidc.com.my or sidc@sidc.com.my with the subject header i-Advisor Your Name.
