whatever, we just have to remind ourselves that we are meant to live our life with God. And this is not only in heaven, our definitive state in eternity, but right here and now. No matter from what angle we look at the issue, even if we take the atheist view, we cannot escape from the reality that our life, in its utter objectivity, not minding first our subjectivity, is a life with God. And thats simply because God is the one giving us our very existence. And precisely because it is existence that he gives us, he cannot but be the one also to keep and maintain it, otherwise, if he withdraws from us, then we would cease to exist. For sure, our existence does not depend solely on the food we eat, the water we drink, the good health and other things that we may enjoy.

They contribute, of course, but it is God who is first of all responsible for our existence. With this clarification, we overcome what may be referred to as the deistic bias which considers God only as Creator, giving us our existence at the start of our life, but leaving us alone after that.
And so he is always in us as he is also in all other creatures and things. That is why we say God is everywhere. He is omnipresent. And if that is so, then he is also in each one of us. Except that in our case, his presence in us is not meant to be simply passive or inert. It is an active presence that corresponds to our
nature as a person endowed with the power to know, to be free and responsible, to choose, to love, etc. In short, we are supposed to correspond to that presence by at least being aware of him and then start developing a relationship that reflects all the aspects of our lifepersonal, spiritual, social, material, professional, economic, political, etc. This is where we have to cultivate the skill of recognizing his presence wherever we are. We need to cultivate this skill, exerting the appropriate effort for it, because being aware of his presence does not come to us automatically. God is spiritual, and more than that is supernatuto page 5

ral, infinitely above our nature. Nothing in our human natural powers would enable us to detect his presence without his grace, his sharing of what he has with us. God takes the initiative first. St. Augustine expressed this truth well when he said, God created us without us. And he continued by saying, But God cannot save us (or cannot perfect us) without us. In other words, while God gives us always this grace, a truth that is abundantly proven in God sending his Son to us, and this Son, Jesus Christ, both God and man, accomplished his redemptive mission by offering his life on the cross, we on our part need to marshall everything that we have to engage ourselves with him. That is why we need to exert effort to at least be aware of his presence. We have to
ural world. For this, we need to find time to consider and savor the doctrine of our faith that would feed our prayer and spiritual activities. Besides, we have to do this not only in some special moments of the day, but rather all the time, in all the circumstances of our life. Thus, we need to find ways of being in Gods presence in every moment of the day in a natural way. Like when things are going well or when we have problems, when we are studying or doing some manual, even menial work, when we are using the internet, when we do business or politics, etc. We have to learn to live with God always!
The Sower
Monday, 7th Day in the Octave of Christmas 1 Jn 2:18-21 Ps 96 Jn1:1-18
THE WORD
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word as God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. A man named John was sent from God. He came for the testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came to be through him, but the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a mans decision but of God. And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Fathers only Son, full of grace and truth. John testified to him and cried out, saying, This was he of whom I said, The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me. From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace, because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Fathers side, has revealed him.

Slowly but surely, the Ps that stand for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program will have bridged the gap and make the poor families capably equipped members of society. gloves however, other boxers and boxing analysts say its time for him to retire. This writer is afraid that Pacquiao might lose again against Marquez in their next fight as Marquez obviously knows his weakness and on the part of Pacquiao, there is that psychological effect that he has been knock-out dead by Marquez. Pacqiuao, who is vacationing with his family in the Holy Land should do some soul searching on what is his priority in life, meditate and converse with the Lord on what suits him. This is the best time for to retire. He should not wait for time that he is defeated again by knock-out. He should remember the wisdom of the Bible which says that there is a time for every season. There is a time to begin and there is a time to stop.

joey e. clarin This is the timely moment for Pacquiao to reflect/meditate on his boxing career. For the last 3 years, he had been pre-occupied with so many concerns aside from boxing. There were other activities which range from politics, show business, product endorsements, TV guesting to preaching as a born again Christian. These proved to be too much for so serious a business like boxing that requires full-time attention. In contrast, his opponent Juan Manuel Marquez has a 100% concentration on boxing that he trained for 4 months training. Pacquiao abandoned his faith that his mother, Dionisia raised him up. Pacquiao deliberately deviated from his usual practice of wearing a rosary when he climbs into the ring making
the sign of the cross before the fight and not attending the usual Saturday morning pre-fight mass. Instead, Pacquiao opted to attend the bible service which definitely showed that he had abandoned his Catholic faith. The thought of Pacquiao retiring should be seriously considered by him. After all, he has nothing more to prove in boxing. He is the only 8 times World Champion in different divisions, was rated Fighter of the Decade and 3 times declared as Fighter of the Year. He has done as proud as Filipinos among the community of nations. Our newest Filipino boxing sensation Nonito Donaire thinks its not yet time for Pacquiao to hang up his

trickled down even to small business players. Because of the high business confidence, consumers are not afraid to spend their money on things they want, Calooy said. Yap, who owns the Junrex Cellphones and Accessories Inc. chain, reported an increase in purchases of smartphones and tablets in Cebu this year. Gadgets Consumer spending on gadgets rebounded from the weaker purchases last year. Consumers now purchase gadgets with advanced technology and improved functionality despite being a little bit pricey, Yap said, referring to mobile devices with Wi-Fi connectivity and social media tools. Easy payment schemes offered by banks also encouraged consumers to increase spending on gadgets. The sector, however, also faced challenges this year. One of these is the entry of imported brands and the expansion of national players in Cebu. 7Eleven, Chattime and Ministop were among the upcoming batch of fresh graduates who are interested in taking different types of national board and licensure examinations in their different fields of profession. In his message, Deputy Speaker Raul Daza, who served as the guest speaker during the rites, exhorted the 432 passers to become more competent in their field of mentoring profession thus, converting their students and pupils to become more useful citizens in the near future, saying education is the great equalizer in all society. (PETER D.PAREDES)/ new players that expanded operations in Cebu this year. Operators of these brands have expressed interest in growing their chain here. Although the entry of new players increased competition and affected their sales, local retailers they were forced to identify new ways to set themselves apart from the competition. Competition breeds innovation, said Go, Although it eats everybodys revenue we have to innovate and renovate to be more competitive. Go said they change strategies to stay ahead. When somebody kicks you, you start kicking around too. So we have to expand and go everywhere where there is opportunity, he said. PRA board director Jonathan Jay Aldeguer identified fashion and electronics as among the sub-sectors in retail that are facing tougher competition these days. Expansion But he said the competition prompted local retailers to expand. Earlier this year, fashion store What A Girl Wants expanded operations in Mindanao. It also upgraded its store in Ayala Center Cebu. Yap said Cebus retail market has become matured, allowing local brands to co-exist with imported and Manila-based brands. Yap, however, said online retailing is a challenge for the industry. The social media type of marketing and online buying has not picked up in Cebu and Region 7 yet, although most businesses these days have slowly adopted technology to lower their cost and improve efficiency, said Go. Yap said the sector still lacked a seamless system to facilitate online purchases. Part of his plans in 2013 is to partner with local banks to come up with online transaction systems that are retailer-friendly. (SUNNEX)
