4)

Will be able to analyze user requirements and offer a cost effective communication solution by assembling suitable technologies learnt.

Sample question paper:

Typical Statement of work (SoW): An automobile manufacturing company wishes to get an integrated network solution for its employees, vendors and customers to communicate using state of art technology and to reduce cost of travel and communication cost using legacy systems. The outline of the services the company is expecting from the Network service provider is as below: a) Voice communication including conference calls within company premises. b) Voice communication including conference calls between the employees, customers and vendors. No geographical constraints. c) The facility should have provision for prospective purchaser to browse, various automobile models, and the price of the finished automobile models and spare parts & accessories over the net. (Initially no interactive service is expected). d) The company sales department should be able to send the invoice with all details as a proposal which is a confidential document over the same network. e) Flexibility to expand number of communicators and also ability to adopt evolving technologies should be incorporated in the solution. Use the technologies that you are supposed to have studied to engineer a solution meeting the requirements as below. The typical steps could be as below: 1) QOS based on the above SoW. 2) Choose the communication subnet technologies that you will consider and choose the one you think is the closest fit for the above SoW. Technical justification is needed. 3) Identify one or two typical scenario and validate the solution. Extension: Now the company wishes to have its mobile or moving sales person to access the network using cost effective cell phone or iPOD or wireless LAN. 4) Now identify additional challenges that your network solutions will face or what will be the additional inputs in QoS. 5) Recommend additional equipment or fitments that customer has to incorporate in its network to meet the additional requirements. 6) With a typical scenario validate the add-on solution.

B)

Diagrammatically build architecture of a typical Cellular communication system along with channel multiplexing hierarchy. (Draw such a way to simplify your answer to the second part less cumbersome. The answer should be so good that no English explanation is needed to understand). a) Draw the sequence diagram from source to destination (indicate the various functional blocks including the various channels that are being used) for a voice communication flow between two mobile phones I. serviced by the same service provider

II. serviced by different service provider III. Identify the sequence followed while one mobile user moves from one cell to another. IV. The user prefers to send SMS instead of voice communication due to his preoccupancy. Through a sequence diagram indicate how the SMS moves from the source to destination. Indicate various channels and resources used.
