teachers who teach at Secondary Schools in Kuala Selangor and Tanjung Karang and talked with the researcher (Norita Ahmad) about collaborative writing (CW)/ group writing (GW).. Kholiza from SMA Kuala Selangor) R Can each one of you introduce yourself and describe your background as an English teachers.. OK, Ive worked as an English teacher for 17years. However, my first option is Add Mathematics. I teach 1 F3 and 2 F5 English classes. . I am Pn. Catherine and have been teaching for 20years. I teach 5 English classes. SMK Pengkalan Permatang is my fifth school. I think I am the oldest even if I look in my early 30s ha ha ha. (Everybody also laughs) I started teaching in 1988 till now. I am the most likeable teacher in school ha ha ha (Everybody also laugs). So, please count on your own how many years i have served for this country.

Thank you to all for the short introduction. I shall now continue with the next question. As I have mentioned this morning when we had our morning break, I would like to get your feedback regarding the teaching of writing skills in the classroom. I appreciate it if you could describe your usual writing lessons. Every year, I am only given 3 English classes and all are exam classes. So, I usually will make sure my students will write for different types of writing to familiarize themselves with the different format. I always analyse the types of questions that can be asked for the particular year and will discuss with my students. I will give more emphasis to the important topics and make sure all my students will write. I will mark and my students will do the corrections. I also will choose the best composition or essay and give a copy of the essay to my students as sample. That is my way of giving them good example for the writing task. Is it an individual writing task? Yes, because I want all my students to write on their own but sometimes I know my students did copy paste from the internet. .What did you do when you discovered that? I will call the students and ask for explanation. Now less students copy from the internet because I ve told them that I will report this to the Head of English Panel.

Yes, my students did that all the time and purposely didnt give any grade. I hope the student will come and ask but so for no one has ever asked. I also made it clear that I wont accept those kinds of behaviour. Can I know if you have assigned any group/collaborative writing task with your students? I did once or twice but I am not happy with the result because I think only certain students did the work. I dont think my students get a lot of practice by doing group writing. I prefer them to do on their own. So, I can see their progress and easy for me to help individual problems. Is it because you are teaching exam classes? I think yes. They will improve more if they write on their own (Stop for drinking)
