SITE INVESTIGATIONS : 2 meter interval contour survey has been conducted and maps are available. The same be updated. GEOTECHNICAL SET UP AND GEOMORPHOLOGY A report on the Geology and Geo technical assessment of the Extension Bhira Project dealing with Geo morphology and Geology of the entire area covering specifically the suggested Mulshi ( Palse ) Bund and Water conductor system, Geological forecast of tunnels based on holes drilled in the left side of current penstocks, tunnel supports pressures, portal locations Geo technical aspects and test results is enclosed as Annexure I, Part 5 of this Volume. A reconnaissance conducted of the area around the existing project components including along the road leading to Mulshi dam for examination of the local geology shows that the area is occupied principally by the Plateau basalts of Deccan volcanism of Cretaceous age. The rock types exposed in the area are the Massive basalts, jointed basalts, Amygdaloidal basalts with a few vesicular basalts with vesicles filled up by quartz rock crystal type and chalcedony. The rock mass is mostly jointed and prominent sets of joints are as follows: 1. Striking NE SW and dipping ar steep angles towards NW. 2. Striking N W SE and dipping vertically 3. Striking East West and dipping horizontally has to

2.2

Mulshi dam site near Male village has basaltic outcrops with overburden on the abutments and so it is felt that the dam is founded on basaltic rock. The water conductor system of tunnels passes through basaltic rock media. Alignment of the system from surge shaft towards proposed penstock alignment is covered with reddish rock debris with rock exposures in between. From surface observations it is presumed that the anchor blocks of the existing penstocks would be mostly founded on basaltic rock and saddles might be on debris or on rock. On either side of the penstocks the hill slopes fall down steeply below. It could be seen that the present penstocks are positioned on the ridge and rock outline with steep fall in the topography on either side. POWER HOUSE AREA : Power house is proposed at the site of present office buildings of old power house. Exposures of basalts are seen in stream bed downstream of power house. and its side slopes and tail race channel also show presence of rock at very shallow depths with little of overburden. The back slopes are covered by vegetation and must be exposing rock of basalts at shallow depths. Back slopes are rising gradually towards the hill face exposing the basalts on the steep scarp. GEO TECHNICAL TESTS. Detailed Geotechnical and Geological Investigations are being carried out at site by Owner including at the proposed bund axis at Palse and additional data willl be made available on completion of ongoing investigation works. However, this data shall be considered by Bidder as reference only. Owner shall not be held responsible for correctness of data or interpretation in any of these reports. Bidder is advised to verify the contents of the data made available to him and to entirely satisfy himself before submission of bids. There is no expressed or implied guarantee for the

Statutory clearances and norms of State Pollution Control Board shall be followed. He shall obtain necessary statutory design approvals from competent authorities prior to commencement of Civil and Hydro Mechanical Works. STATUS OF LAND ACQUIRED TILL DATE As far as the project components are concerned, no additional land is required. Hence this issue does not arise. But any land required for the infrastructural requirements of Contractor has to be arranged by him directly. Owner shall not take any responsibility in this regard. STATUS OF GEOTECHNICAL AND GEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS Permeability tests as per normal BSI standards, if conducted In the existing bore holes, this shall show the rock mass inside existing bore holes and also get an idea of the openness of rock joints and infillings. Any checks by PROJECT MANAGER shall not relieve the Contractor of his full responsibility for the accuracy of structures and parts of them with regard to their position and dimensions. In addition to the regular check surveys described above, PROJECT MANAGER or an independent survey organisation nominated by PROJECT MANAGER, will perform confirmation survey of the Diversion tunnel alignment in the course of excavation progress. Starting from the duly surveyed fix points at the portals, a traverse net (combination of traverse and gyroscopic measurements) and a levelling will be carried out in each case. First confirmation survey is likely to be performed after the first 100 m of tunnel have been excavated. Following controls will be carried out after 200 m of excavation. Each confirmation survey will require approximate 2 days. Contractor will be notified in writing in advance about the date of such confirmation survey and of the appointment of an independent surveyor who will perform the survey. Contractor shall co-operate with such surveyor and provide any assistance as required.

Project Manager and Contractor will mutually arrange to carry out such confirmation survey at a time and in such a manner, so as to limit as far as possible any delay or inconvenience to underground work. Yet, Project Manager may arrange superior control to be performed at any time and notify Contractor accordingly. Such work will have to be temporarily halted which will, in the opinion of Project Manager, cause excessive vibration or noise such as drilling, mucking, hauling persons, materials or rock spoil in or out of the tunnel, installing permanent or temporary support or any similar work. Project Manager will normally give Contractor written notice of such stoppage at least 48 hours in advance and will state the approximate time at which work must cease and approximate duration of such stoppage. Project Manager will also indicate what work, if any, may continue.
