Unitec accepts academic IELTS and its equivalents, including NCEA English credits from NZ secondary school and TOEFL tests.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATES OR DIPLOMAS

Recognised quali cations for general admission are: > Appropriate NCEA credits at New Zealand secondary school (for more details visit www.unitec.ac.nz) > Country-speci c equivalents (see Part 2) There may also be interview, portfolio or work experience requirements.

General admission criteria: > Have a recognised bachelors degree, or > Hold a quali cation in a relevant discipline, or > Be able to demonstrate competencies equivalent to a graduate from the above quali cations There may also be interview, portfolio or work experience requirements.

POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATES OR DIPLOMAS / MASTERS

General admission criteria: > Have a recognised bachelors degree in the same or similar discipline with merit achievement (deemed to be an average grade of B or higher in all level 7 courses), or > Hold a professional quali cation in a relevant discipline recognised as being equivalent to at least merit achievement in a bachelors degree, or > Be able to demonstrate competencies equivalent to a bachelors level graduate in a relevant discipline There may also be interview, portfolio or work experience requirements.

General admission criteria: > Have at least three years appropriate professional experience relevant to the discipline in which the doctorate is being undertaken, and > Have quali ed for or been awarded a masters degree in the same or similar discipline with not less than upper second class honours or equivalent, or > Have an honours degree of four years duration in the same or similar discipline with at least an A- average, which includes a research project, or > Have a postgraduate diploma in the same or similar discipline and be able to demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills and data interpretation equivalent to the above masters or honours degrees There may also be interview, portfolio or work experience requirements.

The CV is a summary of a students past study, work history (paid and voluntary), experiences, interests, hobbies etc.

These are reference letters from an employer describing a students work background in a company/workplace, the nature of the work, and how the student performed as an employee not letters of employment or employment contracts.

Statement of Purpose (SOP)

The SOP is a summary of your future plans, career goals/desires, interests for study etc. The purpose of an SOP is to help us check what you want to learn and whether the programme provides this, whether the programme will prepare you for the type of career youre looking for, and which elective courses would be most suitable so that you take the topics of interest to you. Therefore an SOP should: > Be 1-2 pages (short and detailed is better than long and vague) > Introduce you and why you want to apply for the programme > Tell us about your speci c interests in the eld youve chosen > Give us some idea of your career goals and plans for the future > Tell us what you want to learn or hope to get out of the programme to prepare you for those plans. An SOP should NOT: > Include a copy of the CV/work or study history in detail > Rely on vague, obvious plans such as I want to improve my skills in computing > Be a copy or summary of promotional material from Unitec about our services/facilities/ courses or about NZ as a study destination.

Programme-speci c information
Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science and Master of Health Science (Generic) Applicants must have: > An equivalent degree in the same or similar eld (radiology, nursing) or > Another professional quali cation with evidence of clinical experience and recommendations from employers. Students cannot register or practise in NZ after completion. There are no clinical courses involved and no access to hospitals it is academic study only. Graduate Diploma of Business and Graduate Diploma in Computing Students can apply directly for these programmes after completing a bachelors degree and no work experience is required. Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Master of Business Students must have relevant middle management or supervisory work experience. Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Master of Education Does not lead to registration as a teacher.

We also collect and store information to enable us to make decisions regarding your progress, and to provide you with evidence of your academic achievements. Guidelines for Credit recognition / Cross-credits


Please note:

The maximum credits ever granted is half a programme, but the actual credits granted will vary according to individual assessment, as credits are based on how similar your previous courses are to Unitecs courses. If you want to apply for cross-credits, you need to: Obtain detailed course descriptions (in English) from the previous institution you studied at Complete the Application for Credit Recognition/Cross-credits (online or in the International Prospectus) Please apply for credits at least two months before the semester begins; do not leave it too late as the process can take 2-3 months, and credits approved more than two weeks after the semester begins will not a ect your enrolment (ie you will not be able to withdraw from the courses or apply for a refund due to the credits). Credit applications received less than two months before the semester begins may not be assessed in time, and applications received less than one month in advance will not be assessed in time.
Note: If the previous quali cation is from New Zealand Please take these items to any Student Central o ce on campus. (If you are in your nal semester, bring your results so far, plus con rmation of the courses you are currently enrolled in. Provisional assessment can be made on this basis; your nal results will be required to con rm any credits provisionally granted.) If the previous quali cation is from a country other than New Zealand Please apply through the International O ce; email the credit application form and course outlines as pdf or Word documents if possible as this allows faster assessment than hard copies.
