All personnel receive information instruction and training on the hazards associated with electrical apparatus. Personnel receive information instruction and training on safe working distances from electrical equipment.

If voltage is unknown then equipments should be rendered safe. Liase with power companies representative. Rescues & recovery of casualties/fatalities only with full agreement of engineer. Only safe to proceed unrestricted if certificate is issued by power companies engineer. Personnel directly involved kept to a minimum. Personnel do not climb any steel tower, structure or pole carrying overhead lines. Personnel do not manipulate ladders or long objects in close proximity to electrical equipment or overhead lines. Personnel do not spray water or foam directly on equipment. First aid post.

Electrical equipment should be made safe and certificate issued by electrical companys engineer. Ambulance standing by or requested. Personnel to wear appropriate PPE i.e. fire kit & protective gloves Optional inoculation - Hepatitis B, Tetanus etc. Decontamination - arrangements to clean or dispose of contaminated clothing - Health monitoring post incident All personnel to receive information training & instruction on correct lifting techniques Personnel working above ground kept to a minimum.

Proposed Actions/Controls (Long/medium/short term) All personnel to receive information, instruction and training on the hazards associated with fighting fires where electricity is involved Isolate electricity supply & make safe. Personnel to wear appropriate level of PPE a minimum of full fire fighting kit. Personnel to be aware of safe working distances. O.I.C to liaise with ESB engineer. If fixed installation has it operated, if yes BA to be worn If sulphur hexafluoride involved in fire use CPS & BA If required se up decontamination Ambulance standing by. First aid point. Do not direct jets from spray onto electrical equipment unless safety certificate issued by electric companies engineer.
