Proposed Actions/Controls (Long/medium/short term) Avoid passing through areas of high risk if possible Appliance speed kept as low as possible all doors and windows kept shut Do not use audible warning signals when proceeding to incidents Full firefighting kit including fire hood Helmet visors in the down position Seat belts worn Senior officers should travel where possible with appliance rather than own transport Pre-planning and liaison with Gardai and community leaders GARDA PROTECTION FOR CREWS MAY BE ADVISABLE Consider setting up a forward control/rendezvous point where a number of appliances could be held and mobilised by the Incident Commander who could liase with Gardai.

Proposed Actions/Controls (Long/medium/short term) Appoint lookouts to watch rioters and advice crews Crew to remain as a unit at all times. Full firefighting kit with helmets on and visors down Appliance to be parked to facilitate rapid withdrawal if needs arise. Driver to remain seated in driving seat with the engine running to ensure quick withdrawal from incident if attacked. Withdraw from incident as soon as incident has been dealt with Use as little firefighting equipment as possible to facilitate a quick withdrawal if necessary. IF withdrawing rapidly try not to leave any equipment which can be used by rioters as weapons If incident is isolated and will not endanger life or further property, consideration should be given to allow the fire to burn out, if rioters are particularly aggressive
