December 20, 2012 Dear Families,

At this time I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. I wish to extend thanks to our parent community for your ongoing cooperation and support, to staff for your dedication and professionalism and to the best students anywhere! Much awaited news came from the Province recently and I am pleased to say that Wolfville School has received part of a $500,000 allocation of funds to create a business plan for a future renovation project. Education Minister Ramona Jennex made an announcement December 7 that money was allocated to hire a consultant to study a renovation project at Wolfville School. The process referred to as a scoping would see the AVRSB hire a consultant to review the existing building and provide options for renovations. The review would include all the systems within the building and would also look at the grade configurations and population for the school and compare it to the program spaces of a new school. They would propose options to the AVRSB for possible floor plan layouts. After considering the above, they would provide estimates to bring the building systems up to standard and renovations required to meet the program delivery models. I look forward to beginning the process and am excited to see this part of the project getting underway.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT SUBSTITUTES NEEDED Being an educational assistant is a challenging but rewarding position. Our school and other schools in the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board are having difficulty filling substitute educational assistant positions on a regular basis. If you are interested in exploring the possibility of being an EA substitute, please call our Vice-Principal, Ruth MacLeod or our Principal Steve Keddy for more information. ENTERING THE SCHOOL IN THE MORNING/SIGN IN PROCEDURE Elementary staff are on outdoor supervision of students from 8:25 8:40 am each morning. Students are expected to play outside until the bell goes. Should the weather be inclement the playground doors will open at 8:20 am. Students are to enter via the playground entrance with their class. The elementary doors are kept locked for security reasons. All students who arrive late are to enter the building at the Middle School entrance and are required to sign in at either the elementary or middle school office, depending on their grade level. The Breakfast Club is open from 8:10 to 8:35 am and students are expected to go outside after they have eaten. The main doors in the middle school will open each day at 8:00 am, with the first bell ringing at 8:40 am, at which time all students should be in their classroom. All visitors/parents entering the building must report to the main office, sign in and communicate their reason for being in the building. Office staff will then give direction. Thank you for your cooperation with this procedure. SAC NEWS We have received exciting news. Although not on the list for immediate renovations, Wolfville School has received a commitment of provincial funds for scoping a renovation project. This process is expected to begin in the New Year. The next SAC meeting will take place on Thursday January 10, at 7:00 pm in the Family Studies Room. On behalf of all SAC members, we wish you and your family a happy holiday season. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year. HOME & SCHOOL CORNER The next Home & School meeting will be Tuesday, January 29th at 7:00pm in the Family Studies Room. Thank you to all the volunteers and everyone who came out for Family Fun Night. $134.91 was raised for the H&S. The H&S is planning a Skating Party from 11:30-12:30 on Sunday January 27th. A notice will be coming home after the Holiday break with more details.

The Holiday Bazaar could not have been the success it was without the many, many, many volunteers who helped sort, set up, wrap, greet, personal shop and clean-up. So a huge, huge and heartfelt thank you to all you awesome volunteers. Also, a big thank you to Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Davison our elementary school secretaries who copied and distributed Bazaar notice and gift tags. And lastly, thanks to my co-coordinator, Brandy Stirling, who helped to keep me focused and always had a giggle or two to share. L.I.F.E. (Learning Is For Everyone)

At Wolfville School, we believe that all students should be able to participate fully in school. We are pleased to have a LIFE benevolent fund to assist with specific student needs related to learning. This fund is used to ensure that no student is prevented from participating fully in their classes or school-based experiences because of their financial situation. It is only through the generous financial support of local businesses and residents that the LIFE fund can exist. Heres how you can help: Provide us with your business card and for only $20 we will include it in our monthly newsletter. Its low-cost advertising for you and the proceeds go to a great cause! Call Mrs. Davison or Mrs. Fox in the school office at 542-6055, or drop by with your business card. If you dont have a business but would like to make a donation, that would be great too. Thank you in advance for your support.
