(Above) The De Havilland Gipsy Major I, here seen in a Leopard Moth, runs for 1,000 hours between overhauls. and exhaust valves are on opposite sides of the heads aud are operated by twin camshafts, oue each side of the engiue. Good reports were given of a Miles Whitney Straight fitted with Maya engine. Makers: Villiers-Hay Development Co., Albemarle Street, London, W.i. recently passed its type-tests, completing in all something over ioo hours running and giving 70 h.p. at 2,900 r.p.m. The firm are at present too busy with aircraft work to put the engine into production, but one will be installed in their first experimental helicopter, which is now under construction, and should bring vertical flight one step nearer for the private owner.Makers: G. and J.
