Public relations (social media focus) internship


Principal terms and conditions Duration: 3 -4 months preferred. Responsible to: External Affairs Officer Location: Office-based, London, SE1. Salary: From 600 full time, pro-rata. Hours of work: Part-time 21 hours per week preferred, usually Monday to Friday. Some weekend and evening work possible. Background The Mens Health Forum is the leading national health charity in England and Wales focusing on mens health. We are a small growing team based in central London and are looking forward to the development and expansion of our work across UK. The Forum currently has an opening for a public relations intern to play a pivotal role in press and social media work supporting our campaigning and fundraising work. Principal objectives of the role This Internship requires someone who has passion and commitment and the ability to think creatively, alongside a keen interest in engaging through new media, non-profit sector, health and social care and a willingness to find out more. Specifically, you will help increase MHFs online and social media presence. This role will be instrumental in supporting the External Affairs Officer in implementing the organisations communication strategy. Duties and Responsibilities Making contact with journalists Writing press releases / feature articles Answering press enquiries Researching media lists Monitor news for relevant stories Preparing, producing and distributing press releases Conduct digital outreach and promotion using appropriate tools Monitor and analyse results of social media work Assist with stakeholder relations. Assist with development of fundraising and communications materials as relevant to online and social media Assist with the creation and distribution of online newsletters and promotional items Assist with MHF PR events and support appeals Be proactive in making suggestions relevant to the above.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills-verbal, written, and interpersonal Knowledge of social networking sites Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required Working knowledge of CMS (Drupal) and CRM systems (Salesforce etc.) preferred, ability to learn required Self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to receive and follow-through on direction and assignments from the External Affairs Officer Excellent online research skills Ability to work on own initiative and meet deadlines Attention to detail An understanding of charity sector preferred Understanding of health and social care issues and developments preferred Empathy with the aims, goals and values of the charity, and a commitment to promoting mens health issues. The person Pursuing a qualification in public relations or related field.
