ANYDRON Technical Manual

The Anydron Technical Manual

This document serves as a complementary document to the Anydron 2K technical data sheet. Its purpose is to provide analytical instructions on the installation of the Anydron 2K coating system. Anydron 2K is a 2-component, liquid polyurethane coating that is used for waterproofing purposes. Just like the other polyurethane based products that Ktisis produces, the coating cures with the humidity of the atmosphere. Apart from Anydron 2K, Ktisis has two more polyurethane based products that can be used a protective waterproof coatings: Anydron TR is a transparent polyurethane coating. It is primarily used on tiles, terraces, and other walkable surfaces and it serves as a protection for the surface underneath. Ktisopur UV is a coloured coating. It is durable for light and medium loads and therefore recommended to be applied as a topcoat on top of Anydron 2K

ANYDRON 2K is used as a waterproofing membrane on a number of constructions such as rooftops, balconies, polyurethane foam insulation, bridges, flowerbeds, water tanks, bituminous and EPDM membranes etc. The key features of this product are: Upon curing a waterproof membrane is formed Extraordinary resilience to high and low temperatures 10+ years lifetime Resistance to UV rays High elasticity enabling bridging of cracks Cool roof properties (when using the white coating) Ability to protect the surface even in areas where puddles are formed Flexibility in adding extra coatings, patching, working on existing roofs with obstacles

Products like Anydron 2K, Anydron TR, Ktisopur UV are extremely sensitive to humid surfaces. Therefore all application should be carried out with dry surfaces. When applying on fresh concrete wait at least 28 days before applying. Furthermore when working during winter and humid months avoid applying the product early in the morning when surfaces may be damp.

SURFACE PREPARATION The surface must be completely dry, free of loose material, dust, mould, oils, greases etc. If there are oils or other chemical materials they must be removed either by grinding or by using special cleaning detergent. When coating over previously apply coatings make sure that any loose parts have been removed and that the area has been properly cleaned. It you are unsure when working over a previous coating, it is advisable to perform a test application over a small area first. If necessary, mechanical means can be used to prepare the surface for coating. The most suitable surface preparation methods are: Diamond grinding, Shot-blasting, sand-blasting If the application area is washed with water, ensure that it has completely dried before beginning the procedure of priming and applying. PRIMER It is recommended to always prime the surface before application in order to ensure better adhesion. When applying on cement and concrete based surfaces KTISOPLAST can be used as a primer (diluted at a ratio of 1:2 with water). On more difficult surfaces use Ktisepox PR instead. The table below shows which surfaces Anydron can be applied on. If a service is not mentioned here, feel free to contact us for further information. Type of Surface Ktisoplast primer Concrete Cement mortars Pavement slabs Old acrylic coatings Ktisepox PR Bituminous surface Marble Metal Terrazo Tiles Old polyurethane coatings

Ensure that the surface is completely dry before applying the first coating of ANYDRON. Filling Cracks and joints Cracks and joints should be repaired with K-SEAL sealant or acrylic mastic and let to dry for at least 2 hours before applying. Preparing ANYDRON 2K 2

Pour the contents of can B into bucket A. The mixing of the two materials needs to be consistent (with a mixer) and should last for at least 3-4 minutes at 300rpm. Scrappy or lazy mixing can lead to improper curing of the material. It is possible to add some solvent HK to make the material thinner (especially when applying the first layer). The amount of solvent should not exceed 10% of the total weight. Under no circumstances should water be added as a diluting agent! Applying ANYDRON 2K The mixture (ANYDRON 2K A + B) can be applied with one of the following methods: Roller (make sure that the roller can withstand solvents) brush airless spray gun. (expect higher consumption with airless spray guns)

Apply at least two layers of the material. The second layer should be applied within 18-36 hours. Anydron 2K can also be applied together with a fibre mesh sheet to create a stronger layer. The procedure is as follows: Apply a first layer of Anydron 2K with plenty of material. While the material is still wet, place the fibre mesh sheet on top. Make sure that the mesh is properly placed and that it sticks to the initial layer. After the first layer has dried, coat the next layer. As a general rule, in order to completely cover the mesh you will need at least 3-4 layers of material. For more information you can have a look at the case study below It is also possible to add an additional protective layer of KTISOPUR UV on top. The new layer makes the coating more durable to frequent traffic loads as well as providing longer-term resistance. Recommended CONSUMPTION For every layer of ANYDRON 2K expect to consume at least 0,6-0,8 kg/m. Actual consumption may be higher depending on the quality of the surface.

Case Study: Applying Anydron on an old rooftop Below follows a case study of applying Anydron 2K on an old rooftop. The problem: Old structure (over 40 years) located in a historic part of Athens. The roofs surface was made up of cement tiles. Many of the tiles had become loose enabling water to creep underneath between the tiles and the cement. The customer was looking for solution without needing to replace the entire roof. The solution: Three layers of Anydron reinforced with a fibre sheet. The process: The first step involved removing any loose tiles and filling that area with fast-setting cement. The cement was reinforced with KTISOPLAST in order to give it better adhesive and waterproof qualities. Once the patch work was complete the entire roof was ground in order to remove all mould, grass and dirt.

Around the perimeter of the roof rounded cement corners were constructed so that there would be no puddles forming along the joints of the roof. (Most roof leakages are formed along the joints)

The entire roof was primed with KTISOPLAST diluted with water at a ratio of 1:2.

The first layer of Anydron was applied. While the liquid was still wet, mesh sheets were laid on top of the membrane. On the next two days the roof was coated with two more layers of Anydron thus completely covering the mesh sheet.

The final result was a very strong elastic layer of Anydron covering the roof from edge to edge.
